Dream (Complete)
'Hi! I'm Vicki. I'm 16 this year. I love to sleep all the times. You know why? For when I’m sleeping I’m able to dream of Alec. Alec is my senior. He is going off to college end of this year. I will dream that Alec smiles at me and calling out my names in the sweetest and most gentle voice one can imagine. His eyes looking on at me with the tenderest gaze. I know this is not possible but one can dream and I love to dream and no one can stop me even there.’ While the figure is sleeping and dreaming, tears slipped through her closed eyelashes. For in real life she knew that it is an impossible dream to come true. Where Alec would hold her in his embrace and whispered loving words for her ears only. Anyway one is allowed to dream all they want but it would not mean that it would come true.
“Alec!” a figure shouted and waved hard when she spotted Alec was washing her face at the basements after the sword training. Hoping hard and circling around Alec, “You so cool out there!”“Hoppy,” Alec smiled to figure and patted her head.
“Yes, yes Alec patted my head,” the figure jumped with joy.
“Hey Vicki can you stop being a nuisance to Alec?” Benny asked.
“Yea,” Jimmy said. “Don’t you know that in Alec heart there is only Ruby?”
“That my problem,” Vicki glared at them and ignored them and turned her attention towards Alec. “Alec your results were so good. I saw it.”
“Hoppy,” Alec sighed, “It normal for if I don’t get a good results I won't be able to choose the wanted college myself right?”
“Yes that right,” Vicki smiled again then frowned. “Alec why you always called me Hoppy? My name is Vicki.”
“I know that but you love to hop so much that I can't help but call you Hoppy,” Alec laughed out loud as he explained for sometimes Vicki is really too cute to resist.
“Yes finally Alec laugh!” Vicki hopped around Alec again with happiness, “As long as you are happy I will do it for you!” Vicki declared without shame. For to her to love someone you don’t have to be ashamed as long as the person are particularly happy then everything is worth it.
“Hey can you stop hopping around?” Jimmy couldn’t stand it any longer start to shouted out loud. “You really are a nuisance don’t you knew that?”
“Ok, ok Hoppy stop the hopping I think they both couldn’t stand it any longer,” Alec said softly and retained and arm around her shoulder to stop her from hopping around. “How bout this? I made a pack with you. I teach you Math and when you around them you stop hopping around them but when only you and me alone you can hop all you want.”
“Really!” Vicki asked with hope glittering in her eyes and Alec nodded to confirm what he just said. “Yippee!” Vicki started to hop around again and shouted with joy at the same times causing both Jimmy and Benny to grit theirs teeth together and finally they couldn’t stand it any more. Both of them caught Vicki and hold her down to the ground and tying her up to stop her from hopping.
“Alec I really don’t know what got into you,” Jimmy shaking his heads. “You go ahead I will hold this little Hoppy down with Benny.”
All the while, when this little scene foreplay, Vicki eyes only held on to Alec and seeing him laughing out with real joy is everything that she could hope for. She knew that inside Alec heart there is only Ruby. Ruby is one of the senior as well and well known for her beauty but she left Alec alone when a far better man had came alone for her and leaving Alec with a broken heart to mend.
That was when Vicki decided to take the matter into hands and would not allowed Alec to be down. She had been Alec little bubble cheering him on when he was down and being there for him when he win. Slowly Alec had came to accept Vicki as she was but somehow with the mention of Ruby the light in his eyes would die, which no one would noticed but our Vicki.
After class as promise Alec taught Vicki Math in the library but our little Vicki couldn’t concentrate much and kept on staring at Alec. ‘Gosh he is so handsome when he concentrate on a task. My and he is all alone with me without that two bothersome Jimmy and Benny tagging along.’
“Vicki?”
Still there is no respond to Alec called for Vicki is busy staring at Alec to pay attention to what he is saying. “Vicki?” Alec shot out a hand to shake her.
“Yes!” Vicki shouted out so loud that the entire student at the library glared at her for being so noisy. “Sorry,” Vicki mumbled and quickly sat down but seeing Alec controlling his laughter Vicki felt joy inside as well.
After that everything settle down as a routine for Vicki and Alec. Alec would always met up with Vicki at the library to teach her Math as part of the bargain and Vicki would only hop in front of Alec alone. One after Alec training Vicki as usual would go to the training room to see him. Suddenly Vicki halted in her steps and couldn’t go on another steps.
The scene that she saw made her halted. Ruby is crying earnestly in Alec embrace while Alec was all cocked up. Turning away from the scene. Vicki ran out. She knew that this is not the moment to meet up with Alec.
“Vicki,” Alec called out softly towards her, “Where were you yesterday?”
“I…” Vicki hesitated, ‘Do I let him know that I was there? I saw everything?’
“Vicki?”
“Oh something crop up suddenly,” Vicki evaded Alec’s eyes for she scared that he would see through her. “Alec I…” suddenly Alec’s hand-phone beeped, “Sorry, excuse me,” with that Alec turned away from Vicki and walked towards one of the bookshelf. There he whispered anxiously into the phone. From his expression Vicki was able to guess who is the caller. After cutting of the line, Alec walks solemnly towards Vicki. Without another thoughts, Vicki help Alec gather up his stuff and shoved it to him.
“Go ahead Alec.”
“Vicki…” Alec was at lost of words. He did not know what to say.
“It ok,” but Alec did not look convince till Vicki smiled with no tint of sadness in her face. Smiling broadly till her eyes could not be seen where it covered up her hurts that she was sure would have been seen in the eyes. Without another words, Alec grabbed his books and stuff from Vicki outstretched hands and ran towards the exit without another backward glance towards Vicki. The moment Alec is out of sight, that the moment tears roles down Vicki’s pales looking cheeks.
“Vicki had you heard?”
“About?” dread filled up Vicki heart to the fullest. Knowing the answer before Jean Nee told her.
“Alec is back with Ruby!”
“Really? That is nice for them. They look so beautiful together. They are a match made in heaven.” Vicki smiled into the phone, covering her dread. After that polite conversation was exchanged and Vicki hang up the phone.
Dragging her feet, Vicki had managed to make it up to her room and took out her guitar to strum. The sun that had been shining on the day but as each note Vicki strummed, the sun seems to be going down with each note. Her once beautiful big eyes that always smiles with each note she played is so void of emotion.
“Vicki there someone here to see you! He is on the outside waiting for you.”
“Coming mom!” Vicki snapped out of her stupor, knowing it in her heart that it would be Alec, before rushing out of her room Vicki looked into the mirror and force herself to put on a big wide cheerful smile.
“Alec!” Vicki waved, “What you doing out here? You should have just given me a call.”
“Oh,” Alec seemed at lost of words. For he did not know where to begin and how to start, “Vicki…I wanted to tell you something.”
“No, no,” Vicki denied cheerfully Alec before he could said anything, “That not the expression you should be holding now. You should be happy. Ruby is finally back with you.”
“Vicki, you knew,” Alec shocked for he thought that he owed Vicki an explanation for leading her on for so long.
“Yes, my friend called up and told me just now,” Vicki smiled.
“Vicki I’m so-” Alec said but was cut in by Vicki, “Don’t be! You have no wrong. I don’t mind. As long as you are happy I’m happy. I am wishing you guys’ happiness in every prayer I sent up to God. Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”
“Vicki I’m still-” Alec stopped for he did not know what words could make the hurt less.
“Hey that not the Alec I knew!” Vicki started hopping around Alec, pulling her two braids together and making a cute little face at Alec. “You have to smile. Now you are the most fortunate guy in this world, you have Ruby by your side. Moreover you still have me The Hoppy at your side! I will always be at your side Alec. I will always be your Hoppy.”
“Vicki…” Alec voice trailed off, for really didn’t know what words must be said and what must not be. Seeing Vicki smiling all the while making his heart ache but he did not know why his heart aches.
“Alec promise me one thing,” Vicki stopped hopping around and looked at him, making Alec raising his eyes to meet with hers, “No matter what. Don’t stop smiling and remember I will always go and cheer for your tournament and I will always be your Hoppy. Now I must get back inside if not my mom would scold”
With that Vicki gave a big wave to Alec and ran home not giving Alec a chance to speak. With herself facing Alec and waving all the way till the gate closed and back to her own room. Then did only the tears roles down. Picking up her guitar, Vicki named the melody she strummed ‘Dream’.
As usual Vicki turned up for Alec every single tournament. It became a tradition, Vicki standing at the sidelines cheering till her throat sore while Ruby taking the towels for Alec. Alec seeing that Vicki is still there for him, felt relieve and happy but he did not knew why he felt that. What Alec never knew off is that Vicki now no longer slept.
“Vicki you still not sleeping?” Vicki’s mom pop into her room, worry etched at every single lines in her mom face. “It not good. I know you want to score for you paper but that is not the way to study. Not sleeping all night long? How long can you stand it? Think it about darling,” with that her mom closed the door with a soft thud.
The moment the door closed, Vicki lifted her head up from her books, looking at the door, “I’m sorry mom,” Vicki uttered out softly. She knew that her mom is worried about her but she could not help it. Sleeping would mean that she would see Alec. She does not want that. ‘I don’t want it! Dreaming of him and being awake after just a short time. It is not enough for me! The next morning seeing Ruby in his embrace instead of me in his. It hurt!’ Vicki screamed silently inside her brain. Looking at the guitar that lay beside her bed untouched since that night.
After a one week…
“Hey Vicki how is your result?” Jimmy shouted.
“None of you business,” spinning away from Jimmy reach but suddenly the world seems black for a second.
“Are you alright?” Benny asked, concern etched in her face.
“I’m alright,” catching hold of herself, “Got to go! Alec tournament is going to start soon.”
“Vicki, Alec already had Ruby!” Jimmy shouted to Vicki fast disappearing back but all Vicki answered is just a wave of hands.
“There are still some good guy here,” Jimmy murmured.
“Yea,” Benny agreed softly making Jimmy looking over at him. Both of them sighing to themselves.
After the tournaments…
“There seem to be something wrong with Alec leg,” Vicki said silently to herself, out of habit Vicki had always put some cram cream in her beg whenever Alec had a tournament. Dishing it out Vicki ran up to Ruby, “Hi Ruby.”
“Oh hi,” Ruby turned around to see who greeted her, on turning Ruby found herself coming face to face with the most beautiful pairs of eyes she had never ever seen in her life. “Erm. You are?”
“Oh hi I’m Vicki,” Vicki smiled and extended a hand where Ruby took it and shocked it politely, “Well I’m a friends of Alec and I just want you to pass this to him.”
“Oh thanks a lot,” with that Ruby turned around and walked toward the rest room where Alec is waiting for her.
“Ruby where you been?” Alec asked turning his back to her.
“Oh a friends of yours hold me up. Oh yea she wanted me to pass this to you,” holding the cream out to Alec, turning away from him, Ruby walked to the window and looked out. “Where do we want to go for dinner?”
Somehow Alec did not listen on to what Ruby is saying. The moment Ruby passed him the cream, is the moment the clock came to a stand still for him. Staring blankly at the cream and rubbing his right thigh at the same time while Ruby was heard droning on about the places for their dinner.
While at the same time, Vicki starts skipping home, and thinking to herself at the same time, ‘She said thanks to me. How fortunate I am.’ At the same time blackness came forward and embraced her. While Vicki thinking hard to herself, ‘No I can't sleep!’
After one hour…
“Vicki…” Alec spoke softly, seeing that Vicki had started to stir.
“No…” Vicki denied softly. “No I don’t want to dream. Oh god please stop. I have stop myself from sleeping just to stop dreaming about Alec. Don’t please. Don’t…” Vicki crying softly, blocking her face from the light and Alec view.
Seeing this Alec remove Vicki hands gently and stared down at her. “Vicki it me! It a dream where we are together. You don’t have to cry. Remember you always told me to smile. You told me that you would smiled for me.”
Looking up, Vicki could only stared at Alec. She did not know what words to be spoken any more. She couldn’t stand it any more. Seeing Alec together with Ruby had been killing her inside inch by inch. And seeing Alec so real and so close to her again it pure torture.
“Please Alec,” Vicki begged softly, energy spent, “Don’t play with my heart no more.”
“Vicki looked at me,” Alec shake her lightly, “I love you.”
Vicki looking up to Alec, could see that Alec really mean it, “How bout Ruby?” not wanting to hurt one just to gain happiness herself.
“Don’t worry about her,” Alec said, “She understands.” Tugging a strands of Vicki hair behind her ears and softly bring his hands forwards to her face. Touching and grazing it softly, “Vicki…”
Slowly, Alec brought himself down towards Vicki and sealed his promise with a kiss. The moment Alec kissed Vicki, everything singles details in the dream came into Vicki mind.
