Chapter 1

Profile

Note to the character profiles. Instead of putting up a new profile page, I will add a mini profile section at the beginning of each chapter, to introduce the characters to you, as they appear. So for the first chapter, these are the people involved.

ALEC- 25 years, work as a computer technical consultant for Big Pond, one the biggest Telephone Communication company in Taipen.

RUBY- 23 years, work as a customer service for Big Pond’s Communication (Same company with Alec but different level)

VICKI- 22 years, a travel agent consultant of Air Fair. The most biggest travel agent in Taipen, with many different outlet throughout the City.

Alec arrived at the Aventure Park, early, and was sitting down waiting for his love to come. Even thought they been going out together for over a year, Alec still feel his heart pounding hard everytime he’s about to see her face. To him, her smile is worthless, as for the cute dimple on her cheeks, he could not resist himself, and fell for her, at first sight. In the middle of an empty park, it’s only 6 o’clock, but most people have gone home or starting to leave. Alec soon left by himself, still anxiously waiting for Ruby, as he sensed, something strange is going on, that’s why Ruby couldn’t tell him over the phone. But they have to meet here, instead…

Finally the moment came, from the parking lot, Ruby walked to the stone seat where Alec was sitting. With the birght smile, Alec stood up to greet his love. Putting his hand around her waist, and lead forward to give her his kiss on the cheek. She struggles in his arm, but settle to seat down beside him. As the conversation begin.

-Sorry, I’m lated, Alec, you been here long? Asked Ruby, finding the courage to face him.

-No, I just came, and don’t worry it’s not important that you’re late. The main thing is you’re here now, right! Alec answered sweetly, and still tried to give her a cuddle. But he soon stopped, since he noticed Ruby’s uncomfortable reaction!

-Ruby, is anything wrong! He asked concernedly..

-Um..no….but…yes…there is….I…I have something to…to…tell you…! As Ruby put in her afford to speak out word by word.

-Then, what is it? Tell me…you know you been acting strange lately! Alec sat up trying to gain his confidant…

-Alec, please forgive me, after I tell you…! I …I don’t want to hurt you…I…I know your love for me is…is…very much… Ruby spoke out, feeling her praises fading away..as it so difficult…she just wish, why didn’t she wrote him a letter instead..

Alec had been sitting quietly trying to work out what Ruby is trying to say. He slowly pulled back his hand, which been lying on Ruby shoulder. He looked at the frustrate Ruby, shakily beside him…after a norm moment, he turned to her…

-Ruby, are you trying to say something about our relationship…Are you trying to break up with me?? Alec took a deep breath to say it out. Feeling like his heart just had a deep cut…

Ruby looked up. By now, tears started to roll down her face. As she swallow the lump to clear her throat. She decided to get it over and done with..

-Alec, I like you a lot. And I wish we could always be friends…But my heart has belonged for somebody else’s. I know I’m hurting you. But I rather do this now, then when your feeling got any deeper…right!! Please tell me I’m doing the right things…

Alec just sat still, actually.. he was liked a dead body, feeling someone, had crushed down the most beautiful dream he had ever have. While Ruby, took another deep breath and continued…

-You’re such an ideal image Alec. But it’s just since he appeared I could not get my mind of him. And he asked me to marry him, yesterday…See what he gave me…Alec..you understand right! Ruby’s explanation was just like a child talking out of a big mistake. She put her left hand out to Alec, showing a beautiful 5k-diamond ring…

Alec took a glance at it “Right, it’s so big…All my love devoted to one person for all this time, worth nothing compared to a diamond ring!” He thought. And at came around a smile appeared on Alec face, he turns his head to face the dark sky, as to get some fresh air. He needed a lot of it…

-Is that Simon, right…Alec managed to push out..

Ruby nodded, still looking at the ground rather than at Alec…

-Alright, Ruby, thank you for telling me, you’re right, it’s better be now, then later, when I really love you! Alec lied to himself…as truly he’s already inlove with Ruby, the very first moment they met.

-Oh, thank you Alec, for understood me. So you’ll be alright…cause I have to go now…he… he’s waiting for me… As Ruby relieved, finding a moment to leave, as she scare of being together with Alec just at this moment…

Alec, nodded and said “Yes, you’re free to go with him, and I shall wish you all the luck…! Bye Ruby…” he said painfully…

Big smile appeared on Ruby face, her childish personality had came back, as she cried so happy like she just push off a hundreds tons from her shoulder…

-Okey, I think I’m done, thank you Alec, I hope we still can be friend, as I have to see you at work…gosh I got to go…Bye…Alec…Thank you…thank you…

As Ruby words of good bye slowly faded away as she ran back to the parking lot. Alec just froze, as he felt he had lost something very pressure, wonder will he ever will find something like that…

A black Toyota mini Four-wheel car pulled in an empty parking space in at the night market, parking area. A pretty lady walked out from the driver seat. She took off her dark navy jacket, placed it back in the car, and made her way to the night market with her purse on her hand. Her mind still thinking hard, deciding which food store will she drop by tonight.

“I better watch my weight, how can I be hungry so quickly, I just had dinner with Ada not long ago….But the smell….ah…food…I can’t control!” As she giggled to her self.

Vicki still can’t stop but to make her way to the market. As like all the other night, she always dressed in her uniform, dark navy short skirt with white shirt. Working for a big Travel agent company, required Vicki to be well dress at all times. Her shoulder length layer hair always have to tied up with a simply clip to make she look just a bit more mature for her 23 years of age.

“Wow, this smell too good, and taste yummy, that’s lady sure have imporved on her cooking skill. Wonder if she share the secret with me….hahahah..what are you talking Vicki…you never cook!” Vicki thought, and giggled to herself again.

She made her way around the market, later decided to return to the car, and head home. As she was happily enjoying her last meatball stick, walking slowly across the road. She suddenly stopped in shock, when notice a car was approaching her way, in a fast speed. It’s high beam brighten and blurred her eyes, leaving Vicki completely blank, unknow of how the reacted. Suddenly thought came back to Vicki she realized she should be getting out of the way, as fast as possible..

Too late the car was so close now. But thank god, in that rush moment the driver managed to stop just a few inches of where Vicki was standing… Everything happened so quickly. Vicki was still in such shock, causing to lose her balanced almost fell down the car head. But her body holds on hard and spins to the other side instead, and found her fell back on the walking lane.

Alec, who was the driver still in shocked. He’s known his concentration is not as a normal standard as what he just went through an hour ago. But he soon relised that, he could almost cost a life…Alec, shook his head hard to awake himself. When he noticed the pedestrian, just felt down. Immediately, he opened the door, and run to help the injured person…As he got closer, he’s even fell more regret as a famililar person appeared…

-Vicki! He cried…are you alright…I’m I’m so sorry…

Vicky regains her conscious, when she heard that familiar voice, looking up. And there he was again, still charming as the first day, they met, nearly 10 months ago…

ADA- 24 years, Vicki’s workmate, and also bestfriend, been going out with her long love Nicky

NICKY- 25 years, Alec’s workmate and bestfriend, been dating with Ada. Know a little about Vicki through Ada.

10 months ago.

At Ada’s 24th birthday party, one of Vicki’s works mate and best friend. Ofcouse Vicki was invite as this was the first time that Ada opened a big party on her birthday. It was all thanks to Nicky, Ada’s long last boyfriend.

And there was Vicki first met with Alec (Nicky’s best mate). From the first moment, Vicki had felt for Alec, because of this charming look, his sweet sense of humor, and a lot more, even Vicki can’t work it all out. But it’s just something about him that shivered herself every time they met.

Vicki was a straightforward person, when she planned to tell Alec her felling for him, then she learned that Alec already had Ruby as his love. Devastated Vicki decided to control her feeling, and would not want to become the third party whom came between two lovers. Ada was aware of all this, and she was very impatient. There was once she even gave Vicki a lecture.

-“Why don’t you be strong and tell him! Who cares if he had a girlfriend, it can’t stop you from saying what you feel! Beside that Ruby is way too childish for Alec. She just like a kid, who ever brought her a bigger candy, then she will go running in too that person’s arms. Even Nicky don’t like her!”

- But it doesn’t matter about Nicky, Alec liked her. So what it worth for me to confess while I already know that I will be reject. And if Alec excepted me, then he would not be a type of loyalty man that I like! So this is better for everyone. Plus I only see him a couple of times, so it’s nothing that deep. And I’ll be alright…But I need a favor from you…

- What?? Ada asked, disappointed as she can’t persuade her friend

- Promise me, you’re not going to tell Alec, and make sure Nicky won’t as well…okey…!!

- Umh…alright! But what ever you’re doing now. Don’t regret it later…

And that all was 10 months ago. During that time, Vicki had to avoid contact with Alec as much as possible. She no longer join in the group when ever Alec and Ruby going to be there…But what Vicki was not aspect was that all her effort of trying to over come Alec’s fever has vanished when she met him again, just at this moment!

- Vicki, are you alright? Please answer me! Vicki, Vicki… Alec shook Vicki gently as he saw her still stacks in another dimension…

- Uh..I’m..T’m alright! Vicki finally collected herself together and answered to Alec.

Alec helped Vicki up, and try to search around to see whether she was injured…Vicki upon seeing Alec worried action, she smile shyly, but then to calm him down, she pushed his hands away…

- Aiyah…I’m alright…It just a sudden shock that make me fell. I didn’t even touch your car…so stop searching over me like that…Ah…Ah…! Vicki suddenly cried out…

- What ? What is it? Are you hurt?? Where? Where?..As Alec got shock when he heard Vicki’s cried

- Oh…look my meatball rolled down the ground. Now I lost my dinner snack! Vicki cried innocently, pointing at the meatball felt on the ground near them.

- Oh, your meat ball…hump…Alec breath out with relief.. “Ump,…time like this, she still able to think off dinner snack…what a girl!” As this thought went through Alec mind, he couldn’t help it but to giggles to himself, try not too laugh aloud..

Vicki noticed Alec, action, she laughed, as she thought her planned work, he laughed…

- You’re sure, you’re alright..I can take you home, since it’s dark…Alec speak out, wanting to do something good, to repay for his unreasonable driving before…

- No. I don’t bother you. I have my own car. If you drive me home. I have to leave my car here, and how can I go to work tomorrow…And yes, I’m totally fine… Vicki answered strongly as she doesn’t want Alec to worry.

- Well, if you’re so sure, then I can’t do anything much. But please be careful …Alec was reminding her with concerned when Vicki cut in

- You’re the one who should be careful, better pay more attention on the road. Don’t worry about me. Oops, I got to get home now…it’s getting late…Bye Alec…take care of yourself. As Vicki did not wait for Alec responds she waved him good bye, and walked quickly back to her car, soon Alec was just a shadow away. Vicki felt like she was running away from her heart…

Soon, Vicki got on to her four wheels. But as she twisted her key to turn on the engine, she felt it was hurt down her left ankle. As she looked down, she saw her ankle had a cut and it was bleeding a little. She shook her head, giving a small frown, thinking what a night she just had. And put on reverse to back out her car, and drove all the way to her apartment.

Alec was desperately trying to give some help, since it was all his faults, but upon Vicki’s quick reaction, he can’t do anything, but waved her good bye…He watched her got in to the car, and then turn around to make his way back to his car. Suddenly he kicked something on the ground. It was a mobile phone. Not his…

-“ God, this must be belong to Vicki. I have to give it back!” Alec thought. He looked at his watch quickly, and rushed to the car. In his car, he took out his mobile phone, and started punched in the number, then put the phone to his ear.

- Wah, Nicky! It’s Alec… And the conversation continued.

Chapter 2

Mrs Zhao, Vicki’s mother. She and her husband owned a restaurant music bar, in a small town, about 45 minutes drive from the City, where Vicki is living.

Mr Long An, middle 30’s man, Vicki’s boss who had a crush on her. And will do anything to get her attention.

Vicki’s apartment.

As the elevator door open. There was Vicki skipping through the pain on her ankle to finally make it at the door. She reached in her bag for the key and opened the door, then skipped inside.

- Ouch…How come its hurt so bad from just a small cut?? Vicki finally cried out, when she got inside and sat down on her comfy sofa. This was the first time, that she ever felt regret for getting the top apartment. If it was not for these see-through kitchen special glass roof, there was no way Vicki would take to top floor. She doesn’t like the high. But love to view the sky from her kitchen.

After a very short break. Vicki finally got up, use the remote to turn on the radio for some music, as she hate the quiet atmosphere, surrounding her there had to be music or noises. Then Vicki took herself to the bathroom, to clean up the wound and also freshen up a bit before bedtime. Vicki changed into her comfy clothes at home, which was T-shirt and short. After bandaged the wound, she skipped out of the bathroom, and grabbed a drink from the kitchen, tending to take the remote turn off the stereo, and then relax herself in her bedroom. But as she got to the sofa, her doorbells rang. “Ding—Dong..”

- Is that my bell, it’s nearly 10 o’clock, who would it be?? As Vicki wonder out loud, she headed off to the door.

After viewed through the hole, surprisingly to see Alec. Vicki quickly unlocks her door.

- Alec, what a shock…I mean surprise…Vicki trembled in her words..

- Sorry, to bother you at this time, I thought you may need this! Alec replied sweetly to Vicki action, and gave her the mobile phone.

- Oh, My mobile…how come…ah, It must have fell out of my bag when…Thank you…oh, would you like to come in…Vicki trying to calm down her own emotion, upon seeing Alec’s smile, that sweep her off the ground.

- Oh, thanks, put I think it too late, I should’ve left you too rest! Maybe other times…Take care..Vicki…Goodnight.! Alec noticed Vicki’s strange reaction, thinking she it might be uncomfortable for her if he come inside. He waved his hand, and slowly turned around to the elevator..

Vicki stood still, looking at Alec, she’s really want to call him back. But when she remembers of the 10 months period, while she trying to come pass Alec. Being together with him, it’s mean all her effort would be wasted.

Vicki closed the door, suddenly she felt very tired. Standing against the door to relax, but just then, her mobile started to ring…

- Wah, Ma…how are you? Vicki returned back to her high active voice, realizing her mom was there to talk to her.

- Vicki, how have you been dear. Keeping everything good! Mrs Zhao asked, always concerning for the well being of her only child.

- Ma, you ring me, almost every night, and yet you asked the same question over and over again!..hihihi..She giggled… I’m fine Ma, Yours daughter is fine since yesterday, today, and tomorrow… Vicki answers cheekily. She known her parent only loved her very much, that they are not yet willing to let go of her. Letting her moved out to the city to live alone, was a big decision for them to decide, but they can’t leave their town, due to their long live business. And they can’t stop Vicki from her willingness and desperate. So they finally have to let their little princess to leave them. On one condition that she have to some back to town every weekend.

- I’m just remaining you dear, you remember this Saturday night right?? Mrs Zhao, just adored her only daughter so much, she even love when her daughter rebutted to her.

- Yes, Ma, I’ll be home by Saturday morning! Remember I’m getting pay right?…. how can I miss such a great opportunity to get tips from my dear parent…hihihi…Vicki answered to her mother, remembered that she promised her parent to help out at the bar, when she come back every weekend.

- You cheeky girl! I think leaving in the City have changed you now! So better come back here permanently. Mrs Zhao pretended in harden her voice, to joke with her shifty daughter.

- Oh, Ma, I’m still yours one and only Vicki. Nothing can change me remember…Yes Ma, I’ll be home on time…Good night Ma, say hi to Pa Pa for me!! Love you both..

As Vicki said goodbye to her mother, and turned off her mobile…She checked to lock her door, and turned off the lights and headed to her bedroom. Look like since busy talking to her mum. Vicki finally forgot about Alec..

Next morning, at Vicki office

It was almost lunchtime, and Vicki has been kept busy due to a few extra customers this morning. She has been sitting at her desk all morning. Ada who desk was right next to Vicki, there was only a single glass walls between them and others. But Ada been busy as well, she hadn’t got a chance to chat with Vicki at all, until now

- Hey Vicki, how are you? It’s been quiet busy right? Ada stood up, leading forward to Vicki’s side.

- Yeah, I hated it…Seem like the holiday season has come! Vicki answered tiredly.

- Hey! How come you looked so pale today Vick. Is anything happen after dinner lastnight. Ada just suddenly realized Vicki was showing more tired then usual. She quickly popped the question in a cheeky yet curious tone.

Ada’s sudden question reminded Vicki of the incident lastnight, and at the same time about Alec. She quickly lifted up her face, and answered brightly, trying to hide her feeling.

- Oh, no, nothing I’m fine. It just that, don’t you see I got so many people all came in at once, I just need a little freshen up.

At the same time, Vicki stood up from her seat and walk to the café machine to get herself a hot cup of coffee. Ada gave a slide smile to Vicki, before sitting down her seat. While Vicki was getting her coffee, a secretary came over to her desk and look for her..

- Ada, have you seen Vicki? The secretary turned over and asked Ada.

- Yeap, she’s over the café machine. Wow. What is that?? Ada surprisingly asked, when she saw the secretary was holding a beautiful fruit basket in her arms.

- I’m not sure, this was delivered to Vicki just then. I’m just passing it! Hey I’m going to leave it here, so can you mention it to Vicki, when she get back. The Secretary seem like urged to go..

- hihihi..Sure, hey leave it with me! Ada couldn’t help herself any more. She grabbed the fruit basket from the secretary, and seat back on her seat to explore it.

“Wow, it pretty heavy too. I’m sensing something is not right with Vicki. Wonder whom this from. Hey there is a note. Let’s see.
So sorry for your ankle, hope you recovered soon.

ALEC? This is from Alec?” Ada got a little shock after she read the note. By that time she looked up and saw Vicki walking back with a cup on her hand. Ada quickly got out of her desk, holding the fruit basket, and went to wait for Vicki as her desk.

-This is for you, and you better have a good explanation! Ada said in a hard voice, just like a policeman questioning the crook.

- What for me? Vicki asked back with her eyes wide opened.

- Yes miss! Now what happened between you and Alec lastnight? Said Ada still in the same tone.

-Alec? This is from Alec? Vicki quickly put down her coffee and grabbed the basket from Ada’s hand, then looked at the note.

“ He knew my ankle was hurt. She must have saw the banged last night” Thought Vicki after she read the note. Forgetting about a very pissed off Ada still stand next to her.

- Vicki, what happen with you two. I thought the last 10 months you tried to forget the guy, to all the effort and you congratulated yourself by going out with him. And what happened with your ankle. I knew something weird about you with the pants. Come on, I’m going to explore in a moment, tell me..! Demanded Ada, as she rushed through her speech.

- Hey, clam down, you boiling water bottle. There nothing happened between Alec and me. It just that he almost ran in to me last night at the night market. It’s was not a big deal, I wasn’t hit. It just I felt down from losing my balance and cut my ankle, a little. Alec must had seen it when he came over to return my mobile that I dropped. So this morning he sent this fruit basket, to say sorry. Get it, that’s the whole story! Vicki tried hard to keep her story as simple, as easy and as short as possible, before Ada would go to some wild guesses.

- Hum?? IS that it?? But someone called out… cut short Ada’s sentence.

- Vicki, haven’t you gone out to lunch yet? Said Mr Long An, The coordinator of company, he was the boss ahead from Vicki and Ada. A gentleman, but he’s been sticking to Vicki since she started working for him.

Vicki and Ada, both turned to face Mr Long upon hearing him coming. Vicki felt uncomfortable, as she well aware of the boss’s crush on her. She quickly grabbed her handbag, give a sign for Ada to do the same.

- Hi, Mr Long, Ada and me were about to leave now. We’ll see you after lunch bye…Giving Mr Long no chance to reply, Vicki one hand held the fruit basket, the other pulled Ada with her. Ada couldn’t say anything, only enough time for her, to turn around and wave good bye to Mr Long, whom standing there with his month opened, speechless.

Chapter 3

At Alec’s office.

After a long sleepless night, Alec fine himself very tied. Sitting in his office all morning. But he just basically stares at the computer screen. Thanks to a knock on the door that brought Alec back to reality.

- Come in! Alec replied to the knock, while trying to straighten up himself.

The door opened, and Nicky stick his head in. “Hi, mate! Are you okay! Want to talk? It’s lunch break!!”

- Huh? I’m fine…It’s noon already, God times flies. Alec tried to put out a faked smile.

At this time, Nicky stepped in the office and closed the door, he came to sit opposite to Alec, while putting in front of him a brown paper bag.

- Turkey sandwiches, for you! I guess if I’m not going to get it for you, then you’re not going to eat right? Asked Nicky, as his eyes do a random search on Alec’s white face, and finally land a hard look directly at Alec’s eyes.

Alec felt a bit uncomfortable, he sat up, grabbed the bag and put beside him, still pretending like nothing happened.

-Oh, yeah…I’m a bit busy this morning, forget everything, thanks Nick.! Alec tried to
grin but this acting turned anger to Nicky, he put his hands and the table and looked right at Alec..

-Come on, Alec! You’re shouldn’t register for acting class later, cause you’re a really
bad actor. Why do you think I come in for? I just saw Ruby and Simon down the block. And given you haven’t been out of your office once all morning. I knew exactly what’s going on.

As like his personality Nicky forwarded, all his worries on Alec. He known, he can’t be softy any more, as Alec would not take him serious.

-Yeah, you’re right. Alec frowned. But I’m fine now. True I’m over it. I’m happy for
Ruby decision, I think she know what good for her. And I have to know what good for me. So I passed that devastated stage. I’m up see.

Alec appreciated for Nicky concern. He stood up like a brave man and walked toward his mate, to show that he was a-okay!

Nicky got ups and smiles at Alec. He put his hand on Alec shoulder..

- Good! Be braved. I knew that Ruby was up to no good and I did warn you when you felt for her. But it’s over now, consider it as a good thing, and believed me, you will find a better replacement soon…

Alec smiles thankfully toward Nicky’s words “I hope so, too!” He thought..

- Okay! Hey how about dinner tonight, my share to celebrate you gotten over that Ruby…And from now on don’t even stare at the services desk okay! (that’s where Ruby working desk, it on the ground level, while Alec and Nicky on the fifth floor)

- I know it hard, when we both work in the same building, thanks God we’re in different department. But I can do it don’t worry. About dinner…counts me in, and I’ll pick the place! Seafood Gala, okay!

Alec reply cheerfully that surprised Nicky.

- Wow, I didn’t expect you to be back so soon. Hey that’s place it expensive! …But only for you okay…See ya then, at 6’ sharp…I better go and book now…

Nicky happily waved goodbye and walked out. But in side he’s planning for a bigger dinner.

At Seafood Gala.

The girls, Vicki and Ada, still in their uniform, arrived 10 minutes late, due to their annual meeting. Two of them rushed into the restaurant, which already packed with people. They searched around to find Nicky. But Vicki eyes froze when she spotted Alec, sitting next to Nicky. She pulled Ada’s arm and whispered.

- Hey, you didn’t tell me that Alec is here!

- Oh, you seen them, where! Asked Ada, still searching around and try to ignored Vicki’s question. Nicky and her had planned this dinner for Alec and Vicki, as they see a chance for their best buddies to get together.

- There, they’re over near the fishpond! As Vicki point to the table at the far-left corner, just in front of a beautiful fishpond.

- Ah, there they are! Come on!

Ada grabbed hole to Vicki and pulled her toward the table…As Nicky spotted the girls, he waved to them, which caused Alec’s attention. His eye opened wide when he saw Vicki.

- Hey girls, you’re late…Complained Nicky, as he stepped out to give Ada a kiss on the cheek, and show Vicki her seat, which were between Ada and Alec.

The girls both smile cheerfully, as a sorry for their lateness.

- Sorry guys! We have our annual meeting on…but we did try our best to get here! Explained Ada, while her eyes watched Alec and Vicki carefully. Alec hi!! How are you!!

- Hi, Ada. I’m very well….Hi Vicki, how is your ankle.! As Alec decide to make a conversation with Vicki. Cause in the end, he did almost hit her last-night..

Vicki regained her conscious to Alec’s question.

- Oh! It’s just a cut. Nothing much. You shouldn’t worry too much.! Vicki suddenly found her face boiling hot, every time she looked at Alec.

Both Ada and Nicky have been watching quietly, they grinned to themselves. Then Nicky decided to move on…

- Come on. Let’s order, I’m starving… What you do ladies like? Brushed out Nicky.

- Yeah, I’m starving as well, you know what we have for lunch, Nick? Asked Ada, as she leaded to Nicky, preparing to create a scene.

- No, what?? As Nicky joyfully joined in.

- Well, FRUIT!…hihihi!! Ada laughed out aloud, as she looked at Alec teasingly…Soon Nicky joined with his girlfriend. Both Alec and Vicki felt a little embarrassed.

- You guy so mean…I’m not going to pay attention now. I’m calling the food. You too Alec, let them be crazy, together…Waiter, please! Vicki quickly stared at Ada and Nicky, made them laughed even harder. Then she turned away to call the waiter, Alec and her started to order their meal.

While waiting for their meals to arrive, Vicki excused to go to the ladies room, not forgetting to pull Ada with her. Vicki was just using the excuse to grab Ada aside and have a chat with her. When they reached to the corridor outside the restrooms. Vicki took on Ada.

- Hey what are Nicky and you trying to do? As Vicki rested her hands on the wall, blocking Ada between her arms.

- I think it’s obvious what we’re trying to do. Matching you with Alec! Ada reviewed in a cheeky tone.

- What?? You’re serious?. Shocked Vicki as she didn’t expect Ada to pour out everything.

Ada broke out off Vicki’s arms, and held on her hands. Friendly talk,

- Vick, come on, I known you still like him, and he is available now.. Vicki jumped in.

- But, you can’t do matching like that, what do Alec think of me?
Ada upon hearing this, she clamed down, as she realized she have not thought about that, she basically want goods for Vicki, but what about Alec. Vicky understood and she was graceful for her best mate’s concerned about her. So Vicki put her hands on Ada’s shoulder.

- Can you promise me one thing?

- Yes, sure you know I would do anything for you!! Nodded Ada.

- Okay! Can you and Nicky stay out of this matter or at least let Alec and me be natural. I know there been a lot of pressure on Alec. And I will take my chances when they come, okey…Vicki begged.

Ada rolled her eyes around, thought to herself for awhile, before promised yes to Vicki. Then they both happily walked back to their table.

Meanwhile at the table, after the girls walked out. Nicky leaded forward to Alec, given him a look.

- Hey, what do you think about Vicki? As Nicky get straight to the point.

- She’s nice….way..way…you’re not. Alec given a curious look at Nicky smile, he finally slapped Nicky on the shoulder. You silly. I just been dumped last night, and you’re already introduce me a new one tonight? Alec broke out.

- Wait, that Ruby is worth getting over, okey. I personally put my bet on Vicki instead! Fought back Nicky.

- Well, whatever, it’s just too soon okey…And by the way, I think you’re going to scare Vicki…So can you please stop this matching nonsense…. Begged Alec, as he put his hand together, to show this desperation.

- Okey, I get it, don’t try to reduce my age like that…Okey I’ll stop..The girls are back… As Nicky return to his seat when he saw Ada and Vicki were making their way back to the table.

The four enjoyed their dinner very much. As Alec realized, this was the first time the four of them is privately meet together. He admired the cheerfully smile of Ada and Vicki. This two girls just couldn’t stop teasing one another, when they together. And soon, Alec was like Nicky, just joined in the comments. The heartbreak feelings slowly disappear, since whenever that Alec does not aware himself. He only know that they shared some good laughs together..

Every fun party must come to an end, to leave way for a better party tomorrow. They four took their leaves. Outside the restaurant, they were saying good bye. When Ada popped up with a new idea.

- Hey, guys it’s still soon. Friday night, want to hang out somewhere, a pub, or we can go…dancing… As she cheerful jump toward Vicki..

- Nicky, you shouldn’t let her finish that chocolate mouse, see how active she is now!! Vicki grabbed hold of Ada to stop her jumping and teased Nicky…

- Ada, I didn’t realized. You’re that active until tonight!! Alec cooperated with Vicki to teased Ada.

Nicky, come forward and held Ada from Vicki.

- You two stop picking on my girlfriend. I didn’t know you guys work so well together. And Nicky hit a return back…

Ada was so cheerfully for her boyfriend return, that she jumped up to give him a kiss on the cheek. Vicki and Alec giggles and looked away, with disgust…

-…hihihi…alright, I have to take my leave now. As Vicki wave goodbye…

- Hey aren’t we still going out…? Asked Ada pulling on Vicki’s handbag.

- Not tonight, I got to go home early tomorrow morning…okey…Bye guys….

As the rest waved good bye to Vicki, as she make a move to the car-park..

- Okey, Nick, thanks for dinner I got to go as well. I have to come and help my uncle to move on the weekend… Alec turned to good bye…

Ada was disappointed that her plan didn’t work…But she soon let it pass. Walking hand in hand with Nicky to his car.

- Hey, do you think Alec and Vicki can hit it off? Asked Ada, as she really wants it to happen for Vicki would love it so much.

- Well, it’s has to depend on both of them right? I think Vicki is right, we shouldn’t push them too much, it may scare Alec.!! Nicky replied slowly, hoping Ada would get his point.

- Um, I think you’re right!

- I’m always right! Said Nicky, proudly as he breath in some air, to stand his chest higher.

Ada noticed the silliness she gave him a light punch on his chest. They both busted out laughing all the way to the car.

Chapter 4

"Let me warn you first, this is an busy chapter? What do I mean by busy, well, there are lots more people in it! But before I introduce you to the character. Let me tell you about the background a little so you don’t get confuse."

The Zhao Family, live in Tanpun (this is a make up name for a town). They were the most well known Family with their famous block of land, which have 5 houses sitting on it. These block of land have been passed on by generation, only an Zhao would inherited, and Vicki’s father, Mr Zhao, is the latest owner. 5 houses setting together on one side of the road, the two house in the middle was Zhao Sam’s Restaurant. Vicki’s parent restaurant, and a place to gather every night for most people in Tanpun. And the rest of other three houses, belong to Mr&Mrs Zhao them self right next to their restaurant, on the other side of the restaurant is Mrs Zhao’s younger sister’s family, Auntie Hong. And the last house at the end, which next to Auntie Hong, is for her son Dave and his wife.

Kathy- 23 years- daughter of auntie Hong and Uncle Sam, younger sister of Dave and cousin of Vicki, living with her parents.

Auntie Hong- Mrs’s Zhao older sister. Helping her sister take care of Zhao Sam Restaurant. Her husband, Mr Xen Sam. First son, Dave, second daughter Kathy.

Mr Zhao- Vicki’s Pa Pa, an easygoing man.

Mr Xen Sam (Uncle Sam)- Kathy’s father, owned a shared from Zhao Sam. An typical traditional Chinese, highly respect for the culture and believed.

Mr Qwen- Alec’s only uncle, Alec father’s younger brother, still single, just moved to Tanpun. A funny guy.

In Tanpun, the next morning.

As Vicki pulled her car in the family car space, she immediately saw her favored cousin Kathy, ran out of Auntie Hong and Uncle Tam’s house to greet her.

- Vicki…you’re back..I had been waiting for you all week, what took you so long? Can’t you come any sooner? Oh I’m so happy to see you!..Kathy busts out to give Vicki a very tied hug. The two of them acted like that haven’t seen each other for years, but instead the latest was only 2 weeks. Vicki was the first to notice the craziness.

- Hey Kath, calm down. I could not believe that you’re getting engaged today, and yet you’re so hyperactive… Teased Vicki..

- I don’t care, I’m happy you’re back…Kathy put her chin on top of the sky, pretending she didn’t care…

- What about Becker? Does he care…hump?? Joked Vicki, she laughs out loud, when Kathy start to jump up like a baby.

- Ah, Vicki, you’re making run of me…I’m going to make you pay for this. And in no time. Vicki was chased by Kathy to run around the parking space.

They both having so much fun, until Mrs Zhao and Auntie Hong, walked out, since they been waiting for long, but Vicki haven’t come in…

- Hey girls, god, stop playing around. You think after 20 years, they would forget those childish games of them? But I guess not. Ask Auntie Hong to Mrs Zhao, as they both shock their head watching at the girls.
- Vicki! You’re having so much fun, that you forgot to greet yours mother and auntie. Cried out Mrs Zhao, as she felt a stop sign need to be put up.

Vicki upon seeing her mother, she ran straight toward to hide from Kathy grabs.

- Ma, Ma, helps me! That Kathy is out of her mind, I think the engagement have turn her to insane…Help me Ma, Please help me auntie Hong, you’re daughter is uncontrollable

Kathy also ran beside her mother to cry.
- Mother, look at Vicki, she’s teasing me again!! Help me get her, mom…!

The two women just laugh out of their children silliness. Auntie Hong, gave Kathy a love patched on the cheek.

- Look at you two, when you don’t see each other, then you keep asking about each other, and from the moment you reunited, you started to fight!! Stop it my child. You’re going to be engaged now… Auntie Hong, laugh as she gave a cuddle for her daughter, Kathy struggle wanting to get out.

- See, even auntie agreed with me!! Added in Vicki, as she couldn’t stop to her self. Until her mother slap her on the hand…Ouch…Ma, what’s that for…Cried Vicki.

- That for you to stop bulling Kathy. Mrs Zhao pretend to be tough, but she can’t stop smiling.

While then Kathy jumped to grab Mrs Zhao hand, upon seeing Kathy got closer, Vicki quickly ran over to auntie Hong to hide.

- Thank you, auntie Zhao. I think Vicki need to punish more, and I will do that for you…Kathy giggled as she once again lead forward to catch Vicki. But Vicki quickly escapes, and ran straight in the house.

Both mothers just laugh and adore their treasure daughters so much.

Out in a near highway, a distant away from the Zhao’s home.
The van of Uncle Sam, have broke down unplanned while Mr Zhao and uncle Sam came to the big market to pick up some extra stuffs require for the party. Now they have to park be side the road trying to fix the old van.

- Ai Yah, Xen Sam, I already told you not to take the car! I wonder was his van born. May be even before me… Angrily said Mr Zhao.

- Hey, don’t say that to my mate, he’s just a bit hot! Explain uncle Sam.

- Well, so since your mate going to cool down, cause we have all this stuffs here to get home, and it not a short trip. Mr Zhao aroused his hand together in front of him, tiredly watching Uncle Sam bending down to try and fix the old van.

Suddenly, a rescuer arrived. Both Mr Zhao and uncle Sam looked up, when they hurt a horn beeping at them. It was a Blue BMW, driving toward them. Mr Zhao looked hardly, his face bright up when he saw a familiar customer of Zhao Sam, smiling at him.

- Hey Boss Zhao, what happened. You’re car broke down…Asked a friendly Mr Qwen, sitting on the passenger seat.

- Yeah, thanks to the old mate of Uncle Sam here. Now I can’t bring these things back for the party tonight…Answered Mr Zhao, as this face appeared more frustration when thinking of all the stuffs on the van.

Mr Qwen by this time have got out of the car, followed him from the driver seat was a young man as well. Mr Qwen looked into the van. After invest all the stuff, he look up with an angel smile.

- Don’t worry, my nephew here can give you a lift. Ah, Mr Zhao, Mr Sam, let me introduced my nephew, Alec, came down from the city to visit my new house. As Mr Qwen put his hand on Alec shoulder, indicated Alec to say hello. Alec this is Mr Zhao and Mr Sam, they both owned a most popular restaurant in Tanpun. I decided to move to Tanpun, one of the reasons is for Zhao Sam Restaurant as well. Joked Mr Qwen.

Alec stepped out and politely greets Mr Zhao and Mr Sam.

- Hey, Alec right? Just call me Uncle Sam, like others people. Mr Qwen, I didn’t know your nephew is this big, and quite a gentleman as well. As uncle Sam took a look at Alec.

Mr Zhao also impressed very much by Alec’s appearances.

- Yea, he’s such a charming prince….Okay, now how about my stuff, do you think they can all fit in your car. Asked Mr Zhao to Alec.

- Oh, sure, let me help you put them in the booth. Smiled Alec and he begin to transfer all the stuff from Uncle Sam to his car’s booth. The three men also join in and give hand.

They soon were on their way back to Zhao Sam. Uncle Sam also join in, he left his van there, and thinking to contact a engineer later to have to look at it.

Back at the Zhao home.

The girls have finally settle down. Vicki carried her bag to her room. Not long after Kathy came in, looking very tied, she dropped herself on to Vicki’s bed.

- Hey, you’re look so pale, remember tonight is the big night, your engagement. Vicki lay beside Kathy, her fingers playing with Kathy’s long hair.

- Everyone been spinning me all day! I’ll be dead tied tonight…Whispered Kathy

Vicki stood up from the bed, she came out to close the door of her bed room. And then went back to the bed, used all her strength to pull Kathy in to a sitting position.

- Kathy, come on, sit up, I have something for you, said Vicki as the lay Kathy to wake up.

Kathy upon hearing there is a gift for her, she quickly open her eyes to see what is it. Vicki reached into her bag, and took out a very beautifully wrapped, box.

- Hey, why is it so small?? Complained Kathy as she hold the small box and turn it all around. Can I open it now? She asked with curious.

Vicki smiley nodded. And in no time, Kathy quickly un-wrapped the gifts, in her fastest speed. Vicki even laughs harder.

“Wow..” As Kathy open the box, and carefully take out, a crystal figuring of two swans emerging together.

- Vicki, it’s so beautiful, I never see anything like this..Oh, thank you. Then Kathy lead forward to give Vicki a big hugged.

- I picked this up in a Western shop. Do you know foreign people believed crystal is long lasting. Vicki explain her idea about the gift

While Kathy was still amazed about the gift, Vicki shakes Kathy hard to get her attention.

- Kath, you have to tell me! Are you really sure about that Becker? Vicki sound very serious, cause Kathy attention.

- I trust him Vicki! Kathy answered in full confidant.

- But he’s a city boy. Concerned Vicki.

- What the different. Not all people from city are bad, in mean you’re from the city as well right?…Hey, come on. I know you been worry about me, since I know Becker. But I think I can trust him, so will you support for my decision. Cause you know even we are cousin. But we see each other as sisters, so I need you to be by my side. As Kathy also got serious, she talked as if she was begging Vicki to support for her.

Vicki felt very uncomfortable to see Kathy like that. She loved Kathy as a younger sister. Even know Kathy is 3 months older than she is. But to her, Kathy is still very naïve, as all her life only been contributed within Tanpun only. Unlike Vicki, who have to mind to explore to outer world, and have witnessed lots of situation. Kathy is just a simple country, who been growing up in a very restricted family, unaware about the dark side of life and today society.

But seeing Kathy so confident. Vicki slow nodded her head, in agreement, that she will put the mischief on Becker behind. I wishing that Kathy had made a right choice.

Chapter 5

Profile:

Becker- A rich fancy boy from Taipen, Kathy’s fiancé.

Dave- Son of Auntie Hong and Uncle Sam. Helping his parent taking care of Zhao Sum.

Jill- Dave’s wife.

Steve- Neighbor of the Zhao. He’s a musician.

That night at Zhao Sum Restaurant.

Zhao Sum was closed tonight due to the special engagement party for Kathy and Becker. But instead mainly most of the people from the town were invited. So since the ceremony haven’t started yet, but it was packed with people standing around chatting, or enjoy the great music from the Zhao band themselves.

On the stage,
The drummer was Dave, Kathy’s brother, beside is his wife Jill, playing the Key-broad. Mr Zhao himself always best with the guitar. Steve, a neighbor boy of the Zhao family played the saxophone, but he didn’t have that 100% feeling with him today. Maybe because its was this dream date’s engagement. Since Steven have grew feeling for Kathy a long time ago, but Kathy being so naïve never noticed it, in fact she thoughts his caring for her, is more like brotherhood.

The most important aspect of the band is a singer, and tonight is no other then Vicki. Vicki loved to sing when she was small, and her father had been given her vocal lesson ever since then. But fate doesn’t lead her to a singing career, instead she land in doing travel. But she’s really happy to be one of the voices for the Zhao band. Tonight Vicki also played the piano, she sat separately in one side of the stage.

Guests are starting to pour in from the main door. Mr Zhao, Dave and his wife all stopped playing and went down stage to greet the guests. Leaving Steve and Vicki duet alone together. They were playing a love melody, and Vicki voice was to sweat and clear, even the room was full with people, but every paying full attention to the beautiful girl in Red, on the stage. Singing her sold with every word.

“Dear my love, can you see the night is so clear,
Can you feel my love, growing fast!
It just for you just for you.

My heart is engraving a new name,
It your name, only your name.”

While the song was playing, a new guest enters the door. Mr Zhao rushes over to greet them.

- Ah, Mr Qwen, and young Alec, I was waiting for you two! What took you so long? As Zhao came over to give Mr Qwen a friendly handshake.

- Sorry, my friend, the car park was full, we have to go around and around. But we here now. Mr Qwen laughed.

- Okay then, hey our other friends are over there let me take you to them okay? Mr Zhao pointing his finger and was about to lead Mr Qwen, both man remember about Alec, they turned over, at same time Mr Zhao spoke out.

- Alec, please make yourself comfortable okay! There foods and drinks…and…

Mr Zhao, stopped talking as him and Mr Qwen was surprised to find Alec, haven’t pay any attention to them as well. His eyes were fully sticks to the stage.

“Vicki?? Is it her? That strange, why is it, that she suddenly starting to appear in every where that I go. She is very beautiful in that dress and her voice as well. I never know she was this attractive.” As Alec talking to himself, while keeping his eyes on Vicki, who was dress in a simple sparkle, sleeveless red dress. For the first time, he saw her put down her hair, and even decorated with silver sparkle, that make her appeal so natural just like an angel, singing away.

Suddenly, Alec felt someone shook hard his shoulder, he turn around to find Mr Q wen, hold on his shoulder, and Mr Zhao was beside, both men looked at him strangely.

- Alec, will you be all right by yourself. Mr Qwen said to awake his son.

- Oh, yes, uncle, just go enjoy yourself, I’ll be fine. Alec smiles so ensure his uncle.

Both men then nodded and happily leave Alec to enjoy the music. As quickly Alec concentrate was back to the stage.

“Can you tell me, that you love me?
Can you take me fly to heaven?
Can you show me to my sweetest dream ever!
And together we will always be… together…!”

As Vicki finished the last words from the song. Claps gather around loudly, among that was Alec. Vicki stood up and takes a bow, but when she has a glance down the audience. Her heart started to beat faster, when her eyes meet Alec’s. Vicki then left the stage, leaving Steve with his saxophone blowing away.

Alec also fined himself walking toward Vicki. Finally they stood in front one another.

- Hi! May I ask why you’re here? Asked Vicki listened to her own question, suddenly she found herself very silly to ask him like that.

Alec smiled. The smile that kills.
- I was feeling the same as you. I didn’t aspect to see you in Tanpun. Said Alec in struggle

- Oh, my family here, his is my parent Restaurant, and tonight is my best cousin engagement. Vicki answered surely about herself, but she still look uncertain upon Alec.

- Oh, so you’re Mr Zhao’s daughter. A cloud starting to clear up inside Alec’s mind, and instead they went to Vicki.

- What, you know my father? As she said with full confusion.

By then, two people starting a walk closer to them, but they were chatting away without any noticed, until one of the men spoke out.

- Yes, and he also known Mr Qwen. Mr Zhao said, putting his hand over his daughter shoulder to reassure her.

Vicki looked at Mr Qwen, then she gave a big smile.

- Sir Qwen, I heard you moved in to Tanpun, congratulations. Now you have to come to Zhao Sum more often, right?

- Sure Vicki! And I’ll will make sure that my nephew to accompany with me too, alright. As Mr Qwen said, teasingly. As he gave both Alec and Vicki a curious look.

“Ohhhh…” Vicki sighted, she finally cleared up everything.

- So, I guess you two known each other already… Said Mr Zhao, also in an aiming to dig up something.

- Oh, yeah, we knew best other through our best mate. Vicki answers shyly. Trying to find a suitable explanation for them acting to weird before.

- That’s alright!..Um…My best friend is dating her best friend. Alec also fell he should contributed in to help out Vicki.

“Ohhh..” Both men replied and slowly nodded together, but it was in their head that appear a light bowl, thinking about the young kids, together!

Both Vicki and Alec, blushed, and turn away, from their Father and uncle’s looks, instead their eyes met again. Once again, they decided to look downward instead.

Their hesitated reaction created a big laughter for the two men…They decided to accompany each other to a different direction to leave the kids alone.

- Come, Sir Qwen, we better look for Mr Sam to start the party! And maybe planning the next one for ourselves…hahahah..!!”

Vicki’s faced turned bright red, in embarrassment, she rushed inside to get Kathy, leaving Alec standing alone, feeling a strange feeling coming to him, but he couldn’t tell what is it.

The night moved on in Zhao Sum. Mr Zhao and Mr Sum, are all up on the stage presenting the future bride and groom to the guests. Vicki, stood slowly at the backstage, She noticed Alec also stood quietly by himself at the others corner. But it was not the time to think about Alec, Vicki was too busy absorbing Becker. Some how she never able to trust him since the first day they met. He claimed that he has no relative. His parent pasted away nearly 5 years ago, leaving him to take care of a family business in Taipen, and he has to take care of it all by himself.

Vicki identified Becker as a very typical rich boy, who only wants to have a fun game with Kathy, an naïve country girl. She hardly believe half of the things he said, but because she didn’t have any evidence to turn his other face around. Vicki sighted to herself.

“ Becker, if you’re planning to play any trick on my cousin. I shall finish you. I promise to keep you company as much as I can when we back in Taipen, to see what you’re up to. My friend.” Vicki wrinkled her eye.

Suddenly, among the many guests, Vicki glance pasted Steve. She felt so sorry for him. Even had noticed his feeling for Kathy is deeply. Now looking at the totally depressed Steve, holding his saxophone in his arms, and walked away from the crown. Vicki wished that she could do something to help him.

Just then, some one gave a patch on Vicki shoulder, she jumped up with fright and turn around. She soon relaxed to see it only Mr Qwen.

- Aiyah, Sir Qwen, you almost gave me a shock! She soon relaxed to see it’s only Mr Qwen.

- Hahahaha..sorry Vicki, I didn’t know you were that easy to scare…Anyway I just want to ask you have you see Alec? Mr Qwen, gave another patch for Vicki.

Vicki turned to the corner that she saw Alec before..
- Oh, Alec, yes, he is over…. She pointed out her finger toward the corner, but soon put her arm down, cause Alec is no longer there.

- I think he’s gone. Vicki can I asked you a favor. Since Alec doesn’t know anyone around here, except for you. Can you keep him company for tonight! Mr Qwen, sound so pleased, that Vicki can not reject the request. She gave back Mr Qwen an reassuring patch on the shoulder.

- Don’t worry Sir Qwen, I know what to do okay! I’ll look for him…Vicki gave a gentle smile, before turned and walk toward the door.

Outside Zhao Sum

Soon Vicki manages to get out of the crown room. But it not hard to find Alec, since he doesn’t know a lot of place to go. Vicki immediately saw Alec, sitting on a log outside the Restaurant. She came over.

- Hey, why are you out here? Asked Vicki.

- Oh, Vicki, it ‘s you. Well nothing, I just feel a little crowned in there and I just like to get some fresh air. Reply Alec, he pulled himself up to talk with Vicki.

Vicki turn her head both sides to see if anyone else around. When she make sure that no one else were there. She gave Alec a cheeky smile, and pull his shirt with her, ofcouse Alec have to run after her.

- Wah, about are you doing to me??

- Don’t worry I take you to get some fresh air.

And off they went, disappeared to the back of the restaurant.

Chapter 6

At the lake

The party seems like to be going on for the whole night, the sound of music and laughter from guests whom pretty much enjoying them-selves.

Vicki pulled Alec with her, and took him to the back of Zhao Sum Restaurant, not far from that, was a small lake. Alec was surprise to view such a peaceful site.

- Come with me Alec! Vicki let go of Alec’s shirt, but she still making signals for him to follow her.

They come closer to the lake, on the left side there was a small wooden bride, and beside the bride was a seat, big enough for two. Vicki finally sat down on the seat, facing the lake, and Alec was there beside her.

- Close you eyes Alec…Vicki said, still facing the lake with her eyes close…Have breath in deeply, and you feel it…At this point Alec have no choice but to follow Vicki, he like to find out, what she’s up to. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath…Can you feel the wind, the smell of Da ly huong (a special kind of flowers, that release beautiful smell in the night) Relax for smell, and just concentrate on the smell.

Vicki slowly breath out, she opened her eyes, to find Alec, was still have his eyes close, she giggles.

- Did it works?

- Yes, I felt so much better! I never know there was such a place! Alec relaxing opens his eyes, with a new feeling inside.

- This is a Zhao relaxation place, and it works every time. But you see those Da ly huong brushes, they were my idea. I loved it smell, since I first know about the flowers, and when I was 10, I tip out my pocket money to brought those brush, at that time they were just a small branch. And I planned them all along side of the lake, where winds and blow through them, which will help to release the smell, even more. All my efforts were worth it. As Vicki proudly looked at here brushes, she talk none stop, without realizing some one was observing here every words.

- Thank you, Vicki for growing those brushes, and take me here, I felt much better. Alec words were gentle, so as his smile, so was very thing else about him that Vicki adored.

Little shy she blush and turn her face back to the water.

- You know, when I was small, whenever I felt unhappy about someone or something! This is a place I came too. I only need to sit at this seat, either facing the water looking at those Da ly huong brushes. I then some to realize that life is too beautiful to be depress, and in not case it not worth it to be upset anymore, cause time move on and pains will pasted by. Vicki’s sight still looking at the water from a far, but she was really hoping that Alec was listening to her.

Indeed that Alec has paid full attention on Vicki’s speech. He even took the chance to watched her very careful, upon hearing Vicki words, Alec was emotional touched, he wonder if she was speaking out of her experienced or whether she is speaking out of his own feeling. What ever that inspirited Vicki, inside Alec still thanks her a lot for trying to help him over come his depression.

Suddenly by then, both Alec and Vicki, was stunned when they heard a sound of a saxophone. Then they both realized they were not along. Both of them, turned to look at each other and hastily turned around to look for the person blowing the saxophone. Vicki eyes, land at a far left distances, there she would just barely see the black shadow of Steve and his saxophone. She then patches on Alec’s hand to get his attention, and pointed to him where Steve was standing.

- That Steve, our dear neighbor friend. Dave, Kathy, him and I all grown up together, just like one family. But somehow, Steve developed feeling for Kathy. But that little naïve girl couldn’t see anything, instead she felt for that distrustful Becker from the City. How they two met? It was never clear to me, but I can tell that Becker is not a good type, but no one listen to me, they claimed that I’m too harsh on him since he’s from the City.

Vicki’s grew wider as she continuously told Alec the full version of the triangle love between Steve, Kathy and Becker. And Alec also finds himself interested in the story, which was it just like those from a romance novel. He looked at Vicki to listen to the story, and sometime glance back at Steve, to pay a little sympathy.

- God, today must be very hard on Steve, as he have to attend at his lover’s engagement party but not to him. It must be very painful being the third person! Alec spoke out, while glancing back at Steve again, who still deeply in his melody that doesn’t realized there were people watching and even talking about him.
- Yes! It is very painful to play the third person. As Vicki slights, she turns her head to face the stardom sky, and let wind rush through her face. Feeling like she was saying from her own painful experienced.

Alec was a bit surprised when he turned back to find a sudden paused, changing Vicki, her last sentence sound so depressed. As he want to ask her more, but when he found her relaxing closed her eyes. He let it go!

The surrounding suddenly became so quite that both of them only could hear the light wind something whisked through the sad melody from the saxophone. They both have emotional gone to their own world. Vicki and Alec relaxed their body, but somehow they rest their head on the other, then Vicki’s head slowly drifted off, and landed gently on Alec’s shoulder. But of them had their eyes closed, unaware of what’s position they had gather in to. They only know that it feels very comfortable, and either of them would want to move.

Next morning, at Zhao Sum

The next day, due to Mr Qwen request, Vicki became an Tanpun’s representative, that have duty to give Alec a tour around Tanpun. Mr Qwen is suppose to do the job, but since he realized there could be something for Vicki and Alec, so he used the excuse of being a new member of Tanpun, he may not know as much places as Vicki does.

Vicki and Alec, went off for the whole morning, they started heading back to Zhao Sum, after they had a light lunch together. As they reach in the door of Zhao Sum, they relised they had disturb Mr Zhao and Uncle Sum conversation.

- Come on brother-in-law. I only need your van for 1 weeks.. Since yesterday, when Uncle Sum have broke down, he is begging Mr Zhao for him to borrow the family van to he can come and pick up some required stuffs down town.

But Mr Zhao is not very keen on it, since he also needs the vehicle to move around.

- But if you take the van, then what can I use to deliver the food! Rejected Mr Zhao.

As this point Vicki walked in with Alec, and quite interest to join in as well.

- Pa pa, what the problem, Uncle Sum, did your van broke down again? As Vicki shake her father hand lightly, and then turn over to look at uncle Sum for the answer.

- Yes, I am so unlucky, just as I need the van to pick up the order that I been waited for ages, and the stupid van broken down on me! Uncle Sum trying to tell the story in a way to get Mr Zhao sympathy.

- Uncle Sum, can you let me know how long exactly that you need to pick up the order this time. As Vicki crossed her arms and turn the conversation to Mr Sum.

- Why are you asking so much questions?…ah..my dear little Vicki, have you got something in mind that could help uncle Sum out of this one. Said Mr Sum teasingly, on noticing Vicki’s action. Mr Sum sensed Vicki might get in too one of her old trick again..

Vicki winked her eyes as Mr Sum, and turn closer to her father.

- Pa pa, why don’t you let uncle Sum have the your van, and I’ll leave my four-wheel here for you to used while uncle Sum take the van, okay! Vicki gave a nice big smile for her father to get him agreed.

Uncle Sum, on hearing Vicki advised, he was too cheerful, that he came over to give Vicki a thank you patch at her back.

But Mr Zhao, still not confident enough.

- But then, how can you get back to the city, and how can you go to work. Concerned Mr Zhao.

Vicki, waved her hand, to give to signal for her father not to worry.

- Aiyah, pa pa. I lived in the City moving around is not the biggest problem, anyway I have Alec here, I think he will kind enough to give me a lift back. Vicki turned to give Alec a look, pointing for him to nod.

Alec, who been standing by the door quietly to watched the conversation. He knows it does not concern him, and he should be leaving, but because of his natural curiosity, that make he stays back. When he caught Vicki signal to help in. He happily walks toward Mr Zhao and said.

- Yes, don’t worry Mr Zhao, I’m going the same way to work as Vicki, I’m sure can give her a lift when I go to work and when I go home.. Alec nodded his head, and smiled to ease out Mr Zhao’s worry.

But just after Alec finish his sentence, he found Mr Zhao, uncle Sum and Vicki herself all gave him a big stare. Alec took a step back wondering what those people were up to. Vicki was the first one to make a move.

- Alec, I was just asking you to give me a drive back to the city later. What exactly are you thinking?? Vicki teased.

Alec by this time has gone complely red. He blamed himself for not thinking carefully. Ofcouse Vicki was just talking about the ride back to the city, but he was thinking that he could give her the ride to and from work, everyday.

Uncle Sum gave Mr Zhao an understanding look upon Alec’s frustration, and both men just burst out and laugh. Vicki is no different but to join in…

On the way home

So the van problem have been settle, and later that evening Vicki and Alec said good bye to everyone as they have to hurry back in the city since both of them have to work early tomorrow morning.

The drive take about 1 hour, and that was enough for Vicki and Alec, to have their first private conversation, in order to get to know which other better.

- I have to admired for family, it’s such a full house. Said Alec, while his eyes concentrated on the road and his hand garb hard on the steering wheel.

- Oh, you think so? You also have a good relationship with your family. But in the end, who wouldn’t be nice to their family right. So our is not that special.. Vicki replies back in a cheeky tone.

Alec, suddenly gave to big smile, he turned to look at Vicki for a sec before focus back on the road.

- You always have your way to talk out of everything don’t you. I wonder how your boy friends communicated with you! Alec continued on with the conversation.

Vicki looks softly at Alec, after a little grin, she replied.

- So now you want to know about my love life..well..my first boyfriend was a psycho, of today society, he claimed he has the 6th sense, every-week, he would point out the of number that would win lotto’s, and he take all the money to buy the numbers hoping to win the jackpot, but as you guessed he never win…Vicki deeply enjoying herself, remembering back about when she first dated. But that not the worst part. He even took my own money to gambling. So in the end, I choose to saved my money over him..

- Hahaha…I can’t believe that yours first dated…You made the right choice on that. What about the second one? Alec was pretty much entertained by Vicki’s love life. He couldn’t help it, when asking more.

- How do you know there was a second one? As Vicki surprisingly looked up at Alec, she was amazed that he went to the second person so soon.

- Well, it simple, I beautiful girl like you, can’t be stop on just one psycho guy, right? Alec gave Vicki a cheeky looked. But before Vicki can respond, he quickly turns back to the road.

Alec acting amused Vicki, but she also felt shy upon hearing Alec’s complement on her beauty.

- Well, I guess I don’t have a lucky number when it comes to love. My first one was a psycho, you should think that I learned the lesson. But I stepped in a second one, turn out to be a pathetic soul. He calmed that he likes me, but every-time he see me, he suddenly lost of words, so it end up of me losing my voice more and more every-time I went out with him, being the only person who do most of the talking. So I decided to save my voice, over a useless block. I had to drop the guy…

Up to this point Alec couldn’t help it anymore, but to chuckled with laughter. He laughed so hard that the steering shifts from one side to the other. Vicki was amused by Alec action, she tried to hole back her laugh, by warning him to watch the road. When Alec gained back his confident, he turned his head over to Vicki, wanting to pop a question, but instead got cut short by Vicki.

- Eh, don’t asked me if there is a third one, cause the answer is no. I learned a lot, and I don’t want to jump into a relationship so quick later. So you can safe all your tease back, okay. Vicki said it, with her wide eyes open as if she’s giving Alec the warning sign.

Alec one again had to laugh out, …alright…alright…. that the only words he managed to let out. By then, suddenly Vicki mobile rang. She quickly looks through her handbag, pick up the phone, and answer it. Then she shook her head, when the other line speak out. Alec kind of got the idea of whom calling by looking at Vicki.

“ VICKI! Are you back yet, me and Nick just drove pass your place, we want to come in but we didn’t see you’re your four-wheel at the slop, so where are you now??” Ada active voice raised out non-stop.

- Me, I’m on the way back…Answer Vicki, while prepare for another speech from her dear mate.

“ Hey, it almost late, you have to work tomorrow don’t you know, also want to have fun and forget about other things..works is important too you know.” Ada tends her voice, half joke, half-serious.

- Yes, ma I know, I’m just having some problem at home, and I have to left my car back there, I taking a drive home…By the way, speaking of tomorrow, can you pick me up in the morning! Asked Vicki, when remember about her situation without a vehicle to move around.

But when the phone replied, Alec noticed Vicki had little dissapointed tone. He knew that Ada might not be able to give Vicki the lift.

- Oh, okay then, I won’t bother you..I’ll get someone else okay…Yes…Don’t worry I see you at noon, tomorrow… Bye… Vicki turn off her phone, and slowly drop it back in her bag..

- That was Ada! Vicki putting back the smile, cause she don’t want Alec to notice her disappointing.

- Yeah, I guessed. Alec smile back, but he then couldn’t help it but to ask more.
- Why? Can Ada give you the lift? Asked Alec.

- Uh? Oh, no, she said she not coming to work in the morning, cause she got something to do…So I guess I’ll take taxi.. Answer Vicki, who couldn’t hide the disappointment on her look.

Alec, gave it a quick though, and he turned to Vicki to asked the question, while still paying concentration back on the road sometime.

- Listen, since I’m going to work the same way with you, and I have to go pass your place anyway, so let me give you the ride during this week when you don’t have the car, okay!

Alec, question, touch Vicki, she was wondering what to do, may be refuse but how..

- Okay, we settle it then, I come pick you up at 8.30, and I’ll wait for you at the café Centre at 6.00 to go home, okay? Alec was finalizing this decision, without wanting Vicki to object.

- Well, if it no hassle for you then, thank you…That the only words Vicki managed to speak out.

By then, Alec had reached Vicki place. They say goodbye, quickly, since it was dark, and both have to go home and prepare for good. But in their mind, the two realized that they going to see each other a lot more, and that makes them happy.

Chapter 7

In Taipen.

During the next few days, Alec has been keeping his promise punctually. Every morning, he would come and parked in front of her apartment exit door, and most of the evening, both Alec and Vicki usually spend dinner with Ada and Nicky, or were at the most happy to see their two best friends getting together. And to complete his duty, Alec always drop off Vicki after dinner, or after she take in to the Night market to eat some more, or after he went window shopping with her, and there is more…

On the fourth day, tonight was different, since Ada and Nicky were having a special dinner together. It left Vicki and Alec by themselves. At 6 o’clock, Vicki packed up her desk, reached out for her handbag, and walk out of the office. As her elevator land on the ground floor, the door open, and Vicki step out. But she suddenly paused, when recognizing her boss, Mr Long An, have been stood there for a while, supposingly he was waiting for her.

-Ah, Vicki, I just realized that Ada left early today, so it must mean you’re having a night alone, may I ask you for dinner? Said Mr Long, as she fixed with tied, and straighten his suit, before he gave Vicki a warmth welcome smile.

“This guy is sick!” Vicki thought, while strangle through her mind, to find out she best excuse.

-On Mr Long…I…I…Her eyes rolled from side to side trying to fine the next word.
By then a rescuer appeared, as Vicki noticed Alec, who was just arrived and making this way to the automatic class door.

-Ah, sorry Mr Long, I have planned tonight?

-You had planed? As Mr Long jumped in, disbelieved.

-Oh, yes yes. My boyfriend is picking me up, and we go to movie! Vicki face brightens up as she thanks God, for bring Alec in at the right time, right place!

-You has a boyfriend? How come I never know! Asked Mr Long, who was still in a shocking stage.

Alec is keep approach to reach Vicki, “I have to make a move quick, can’t let Alec talk to Mr Long, or he’ll ruin everything” By the thought of that Vicki start to say good bye, and walked fast to reach Alec.

-Yes, there he is. I have to go now, see you! Vicki ran faster to reach Alec, when she met him, she quickly curved her right arm in his left arm, and with a warm look, she said, softly but loudly to Mr Long could hear every words.

-Oh, honey, you’re here, shall we go to dinner, or we’ll be late for the movie.!!

-Huh? Humbled Alec, as she gave Vicki a weird looked. But Vicki was quick enough to turn Alec around so their back were facing Mr Long. Still arm in arm, Vicki make signs for Alec to walk with her out of the door, while doing that she whispered to him “Please, help me. I need you not to say anything!”

Alec couldn’t resist the pleading look in Vicki’s eyes, he nodded his head.

-Then turns your head back! Alec followed and turns his head to the left to met Mr Long’s big frowning face.

-Then smile for me! And Alec smiled. Mr Long, was speechless once again. With his mouth wide open, he was in a mixed stages shocked, confused, disappointed, frustrated, while watching his dream lover, walking out of his dream hand in hand, smiling cheerful with another handsome hunk.

When Vicki and Alec, got out of the building, they quickly turned left to the car park. As Vicki looked back to check whether Mr Long decided to chase after them or not. She brushed out laughing, when everything seems working.

-Um, what so funny? Asked Vicki while looking at Vicki’s cheerful face who still have her hand hanging on to his arm.

-Hahahaha! What so funny? Don’t you see that man long face, when left. My god, I think I finally got rip of him and it all thanks to you. Truly my hero. As Vicki excitingly exclaims her victory, she held on tier to Alec arm, without realizing it.

Vicki happiness has now spread to Alec, as he joined her with a big smile.

-Really! was he that bad?

-Oh, you don’t believe me, ask Ada, she been there and done that with me! Answer Vicki as she took another look at Alec. Where did you park the car? Vicki gave a look around for Alec BMW.

-Right here! Alec said, while they both stopped

-Oh! By now Vicki realized what position the both of them are in. If people walking outside to witness the two of them holding on to each others like that, so doubt they will think them on dated. Vicki felt a little embarrassed as she quickly pulls her hand away.
-Oops! Sorry! Said Vicki, turning all red.

Alec also turned red no less then Vicki. When he realized, her hand had slipped away, he wonder why a part of him had a little regret. They both turn silent, and do everything wordlessly. Alec opens the door for Vicki to come in, and moved to the other side, to take to driver seat. In quite they drove off.

Since Ada and Nicky had a night out together, Alec and Vicki also decided to have a quick dinner, before they head home. They both got out of the famous Japanese Restaurant in side a shopping mall, and started walking back to the car. The incident before has turned both of them to be quite. Vicki look up, a head of them was a cinema, but for eyes got boiling hot, when from a fair distance, she spotted Becker, walking hand in hand with a young girl in to the cinema…She paused to think.

-Vicki? Are you alright? Asked Alec, when realized Vicki’s changing expression.

-Huh? No, I’m fine…Um it still early, you want to go and catch a movie. Vicki suddenly, when she decided to follow the person, and make sure it was Becker.

-Huh? Alec takes in a little surprised. But after a glance as his watch. He nodded with agree

Vicki by then have been attracted completely by Becker moved, as she forgot all about the quite time they just had. In her normal curious self, she pulls Alec in to the cinema with her. Luckily she was in time to catch Becker and his girl went in to a showing room. No doubt Vicki picked the tickets for the same room and run in. Alec as giving her a second weird look of the day, when he stills hasn’t recognized Becker.

They both went in to the room, and Vicki picked to seat, to line up at the back of Becker and his girl. As they approaching the seat, Vicki whispered to Alec.
-That guy in front of us is Becker, I finally spotted his fox’s tail. Alec and you help me, for tonight!

Vicki had leave Alec no other choice but to agree, since he had brought the ticket, and went to the showroom, took his seat.

So the two of then sat there during show time, but not to watch the movie, they just observing Becker every moves, sometimes Vicki even try to make facing to him, but Alec stopped her.

When the movie is over, Vicki decided that she saw enough. She then quickly dragged Alec out of the show room, before anyone else.

-See, no one would believed about that Becker, I knew he was not a truthful type from the start, oh, my God, about Kathy! While Vicki was so busy humbled to herself, she have no clues that Becker and his girl just got out and walking behind them. Luckily, Alec spotted, in a hurry, he push busy mumbling Vicki to the wall, and rest both his hand on the wall as well. Making a view as a couple chatting closely.

Vicki felt no other then big shock. Before she could cry out, she saw Alec, putting his finger and his mouth, telling her to keep quite. “Shrrrr”. By then Vicki too saw Becker and his girl, still hand in hand flirting non-stop to each other, just walked pass her and Alec’s back.

They waited still Becker, had gone no sign, then Alec moved himself out of Vicki’s way, and both started walking. After a few minutes of blushing, Vicki returned her full thought about Kathy’s situation. And Alec was smiling quietly, when he recalls what happened since she came to pick up Vicki. “What a girl, why should she always face problems, and mostly involved with men. Hope I’m the count out one.!” He thought and grinned.

Chapter 8

Ding….ling….ling…
Alec mobile phone went off, while he was getting ready for work. He dashed out of the bathroom, and pick up the phone, on his desk.

-Hello, Alec!! Answered Alec.

-Alec, how are you, It’s Vicki! The soft voice on the other line reply.

-Vicki? Why so early? Asked Alec, wondering, had anything happened to her.

-Oh, no! I just want to let you know I’m taking the day off, so you don’t have to worry about picking me up okay! Answered Alec, due to Alec’s concern.

-Why, are you sick, you need me to take you to the doctor. Alec couldn’t stop himself from continue on asking, also why he felt so worry when she’s unwell.

-Thanks, but I’m not sick, I just have some family business to attend today. Anyway, I won’t bother you, no more, thank you! I’ll let you go now, have a nice day okay. As Vicki, felt she is not going to pull Alec in to her family business, so she say no more.

-Okay! I’ll see you later, if you need anything call me okay…Bye-Bye.
Alec, put down the phone, curious about what family business was Vicki talking about. The memory hit back when he remembers last night.

“She not going to that Becker, is she? She not mad enough, to actually create a scene with that untruthful man, is she?” He thought with deep worry.

Indeed, Alec was right? Well, half of it. Vicki had taken a day off to follow Becker. But not to create a scene, she is too intelligent to do that. She only wants some physical evident that he is really cheating behind Kathy’s back. So she spend the whole day spying on him, with her camera, and the outcome was great. Beacker really have taken in other women. And today was a different one from last night.

“That dirty Jerk, playing trick on my cousin. Okay now with these photos, I’m going to nail him dead, just like I always wanted.” Vicki thought to herself, while busy pressing the flash button, aiming at Becker, and his sugar.

Mean while at work, Alec couldn’t resist himself for worrying about Vicki. And that effected with his work ability, his mind wondered, loses of concentration and focus on what he was doing. Even Nicky was aware of it.

-Alec! Are you all right? You’re been acting strange today. Asked Nicky, wearing a worry look to Alec while they having the lunch break.

-Uh? No, I’m fine, just that I felt a bit…um…not 100% myself. Snapped out Alec, while trying to hide his worry for Vicki, if Nicky know the true, who know what rumor could the spread, especially to Ada, while he’s only consider Vicki as a friend. Well, a close friends.

-You look sick, take a day off, I’ll cover for you..Nicky gave a friendly patch on Alec shoulder.

Alec really thankfully for Nicky concern. Even thought his love life a bit shaky, but god given to him a very good friendship, with Nicky, Ada, also Vicki.

-Thanks, mate! But I’ll finish the file that I’m doing, then I’ll take an early leave today, okay. Alec reassures with Nicky.

And their lunch went on, after Alec come back to his office, he quickly packed up his work, finish off what he was doing, and report for an early leave.

At the shopping center.

Vicki walked out of the photo shop, with her eye stack to the bunch of photo holding on her hand. She didn’t know where she was going until, an arm grab hole of her shoulder. Vicki shocked.

-Ah! Oh..it’s you! What are you doing here? Vicki let out a relief sight, when she saw it was only Alec.

-I don’t know, I got a feeling I would see you here! So what have you been up to! Alec also gave a relief smile, and asked back the question.

Vicki gave a stared around, to make sure no one else is looking after her, then she pulled Alec to a corner near by so it could be more secretive.

-See! What I got, I really prove of myself. My day has not been wasted. As Vicki handed to Alec the bunch of photo, with a sacrificed smile.

Alec, who was furiously took the photo, his eyes went wild, when he saw packs of pictures only on Becker holding and kissing other woman in his arm. The figuring is good but the focus is not that great.
-Um..when did you get these, but they not very clear!!..Humble Alec, he didn’t want to spoil Vicki happy feeling.

-Ai…I know some of them may not be great. I think my camera a bit rocky, but you can totally sure that is the jerk right! Vicki getting in to her side of explanation.

-Um…I guess so! Answered Alec, uncertain, cause he, himself even find it hard to recognize the person.

Vicki grabbed back the photos, and carefully places them in a cover, and slices it in her bag. Then she suddenly looks up at Alec, but this time, she pulled him out, so they both start to walk side by side.

-Alec, are you free tonight! I mean, tomorrow it’s Saturday, you don’t have to work. Asked Vicki, with a mischief look.

Alec sensed that she was up to some thing, he gave her the funny eye brown look.

-Yes, what do you want!..

-Oh, can you give me a drive back to Tanpun. It almost six now, and I think I won’t make it for the last train…
With that Vicki showed a pleading look, she knew no know could reject that, and Alec is no exception.

-Okay! But do you think it’s a good idea for Kathy to see the photo. Alec gave out a furious question. Out of expectation, Vicki jumped at him in respond.

-What, don’t you think Kathy have a right to know what her not yet 1 week fiancé is with other women. Vicki feels her defendant attitude for Kathy had arouse. But looking at Alec, shocking expression. She clamed down.

-Sorry, I shouldn’t have yell at you. Don’t worry I’ll take the train. With a bit of embarrassment, she walks off.

Alec on seeing that quickly chased after, stopping on her way.

-Hang on, I didn’t say I’m not taking you, anyway, I planning to see my uncle as well, so it not hurt to give you the drive right! Alec gave back a teasing smile, to ease out the tension.

-Oh, thank you, your..the best.. Vicki cried out happy to be relief that Alec was not mad.

-Ah! Don’t get too happy, I’m not doing it for free you know. Now it Alec turns to hit back the ball.

Vicki stopped uncertainly, but she realizes it soon of what Alec was up to. Her eyes look straight in his eyes, in a glance, she smiled lovely and pulled his hand with her, while saying.

-Come on let go. I promise you, I will repay you in a very worthy way. You can not be disadvantage, okay!

And then they both walk off to Alec car. After picking up some personal stuff at both of their houses, since it look like they going to stay in Tanpun for the weekend. Alec and Vicki set off for the drive back to Tanpun on the same night

Chapter 9

Alec BMW stopped in front of Zhao Sam restaurant just after 7o’clock. He dropped of Vicki, and was going to see his uncle.

-Thank you very much Alec, will you be staying for the weekend? Vicki just popped the question just before she go inside.

-Um, I think so. I can wait for you, and may be we can go back together. Alec was answering from his kind heart of friendship, wanting nothing else.

But Vicki shook her head and smile back.
-Don’t worry about me, I think uncle Sam should be back by tomorrow, so I can take my car back…As she thanks for Alec kindness, but truly, she really doesn’t want to spend time with Alec too much. That old feeling could be awaken anytime.

Alec replied “Okay” As there was nothing else to say from that. They both waved each other good bye, and Alec drove off, while Vicki, carrying her belonging into the restaurant.

It was not that busy tonight, the guests are all familiar in town. Most of them all know Vicki, the famous voice in Tanpun. Upon seeing her entered, they waved and greet her for coming back.

Vicki, was to busy looking around for Kathy, so she just smile back to them, and answer a few quick question, then dashed of to the counter where her father was standing.

-Pa pa, I’m back…Vicki taped on the table, while her father was busy looking down at a book, to surprised him.

-Ah! Vicki you back so early! Mr Zhao, jumped on seeing Vicki, his action make her furious.

-Papa, anything wrong?

-Well, there is a little thing. Your Uncle Sam having a bit of problem with the order, he might be staying back there for another the week. Mr Zhao spoke out uncomfortable, as he guessed his daughter would go groaning at no having her car back.

But instead, Vicki gave out a smile.

-Oh, that okay! I got more important stuffs to worry papa, I’ll go and look for Kathy. By that Vicki went off, living her father standing in confusion, did he judge her wrongly, or she just not in the move to worry about the car.

Vicki, don’t bother go to her room, she went down the kitchen, to greet her mother and everybody else. Lucky Kathy was in there, Vicki quickly grabbed Kathy’s arms, and pulled her outside.

-Come with me, I got important news for you!
By that the two ran out of the kitchen together. Leaving the two mothers looking upon their daughters with great laugh. They only thought that their daughters were just up to their normal trick with each other, and soon they return their concentration in the work that they were doing.

After went to his uncle house, Alec decided to went back to Zhao Sam, since he had nothing to do and it was still only 9 o’clock.

He went in the door to find Steve, near by, Alec remembered Steve position on the engagement night, and he quickly came over and makes friend with Steve. Soon the two were deep in their conversation, sitting at a table drinking tea together.

Mean while, at the back garden of the restaurant (where Vicki took Alec), the two girls were talking to each other loudly, in fact they were starting a quarrel.

-Vicki, you can’t bring me all these blurry pictures, which I can’t hardly figure out a man or a woman, and expect me to believe that my finance if cheating on me. As Kathy put back the pictures down the seat, and Vicki quickly took it.

-Okay, may be these pictures are not very clear, but I saw him with my own eyes Kathy, don’t you believe me…Vicki trying very hard to convince Kathy, but she had no luck so far.

-I trusts you, but I also trust him. May be you haven’t been in love, or you’re not engaged or marry yet, so you don’t know how to trust your partner. Kathy fight back

-But I saw him, even Alec was there, we followed them to the cinema, and they send hours touching each other. As Vicki began to raise her voice, she so angry at Kathy reaction, she thought she was doing a good course. That it turns out her to be a idiot.

-Alright, if you don’t believe me, you can go and ask Alec…Vicki giving up with all of her work and drop down on the seat.

-Hah? Ask Alec, what do I sensed someone had a plan with someone to put down someone else. Kathy, was too angry at Vicki taking bad about Becker. She knew Vicki haven’t been the greatest support of her being with Becker, but she never thought Vicki could do such things, like making up stories and picture to damaged her and Becker relation.

-What do you mean by that. Alec, and me had planned nothing, we just speak for what we saw. Vicki began to raise her voice again.

-What I see is that you don’t like Becker, and in order for me to break to break up with him, you go to make these funny pictures and blamed on Becker. And to pull Alec in to the story as well. Kathy was angry no less.

-Key than, I just being a stupid idiot for spying around to take all these for you, and worst then, I can back here to warned you. So sorry for ruining your evening. I’m going back. And by the way, I’ll leave the pictures here, once you have the heart to look at it careful, you will know what I mean, Bye….
Vicki grabbed her bag and rushed back to the restaurant, with a word aggressive written all over her face. She went in to the kitchen to greet good bye, to her mother, and lying of the excuse that she need to work overtime. Then walked quickly to the counter, and say the same with her father, and set off for the door.

Alec was enjoying himself with Steve, but the conversation got stop, when both men noticed Vicki unhappy face, rushing to the door. Alec quickly stood up, and stop in her way.

-Hi, where are you off to! Alec gave a smile, but in returned he saw in aggressive Vicki that never appear before, tears were starting to build in her eyes, as Vicki swallow the plum in her throat, to answer Alec.

-I’m going back to Taipen. She pushed him away, and continued storming to the door. Alec gave Steve a confused look, but quickly run after Vicki.
-Hey Vicki, wait..how are you going to get back? As Alec ran out of the doorway, trying to catch up with her. Vicki reluctantly stopped.

-I’m calling the cab, or what ever I can get to go back, I don’t want to stay here.! Vicki replied, as she still feeling to big disappointment cloud in her head.

-Wait, I’ll take you home! Alec volunteered as he was not certain to let Vicki went off by herself at this time.

Vicki was about to refuse, but she realize no point in doing that, so she just nodded her head, with the words “thank you” and follow him back to the car.

Alec, was relief seeing Vicki agreed to let him take her back. He held her bag and put it in the boot. Then drove back to his uncle house to pick up his stuffs and say bye to his uncle, while Vicki rang back her father on the mobile, to ensure him that she is fine, since Alec is taking her home.

Chapter 10

It was Sunday, as Ada knows Vicki was home, she drop by and visit Vicki to tell her the good news.

-Vicki, are you alright? Ada soon noticed the unhappy Vicki, lying tiredly on couch.

-Yeah, I’m fine, it just that I think I’m been sticking my noise in other people business. Replied Vicki, as she still remembers how Kathy refused to listen to her last night.

-What’s wrong? Ada asked in an urged to find out what on earth is Vicki talking about.

Vicki turned her faced to look at Ada, she then sit up, while Ada move to the same couch and sat next to her. And then she begin the story between Kathy & Becker, and how she find out that he is not truthful.

-That is nothing wrong, I would do the same if I were in your case, since you only want to warn Kathy. But now turn out she doesn’t want to listen to you, so you don’t feel bad, what you did was right, and if anything happen later, you will not feel regret for not tell her, right!

Ada comforted for Vicki, when she was strongly agreed to what Vicki did. But Vicki still uncertain, as she doesn’t want to see Kathy getting hurt.

To change the paste, Ada, pushed Vicki to sit up properly, and suddenly she moved her left hand in front of Vicki.

-Hey, come on, forget it. Deal with me instead. Look what I got. Said Ada, as she was waving her hand to get Vicki’s attention.

Vicki look down at the hand, suddenly her wide eyes opened, she lead forward, and grab Ada’s hand, put it closer, to view at the big shiny diamond ring on Ada’s second finger.

-Oh, my God! Is this from Nicky.

-Uuh ha…Nodded Ada, shyly

-Did he…?

Ada nodded, happily.

-Did you…?

-Yes, Ade broke out with laughter.

Vicki quickly lends forward to give Ada a big hug.

-Oh, Ada, I’m so happy for you, congratulation, You been waited for so long, and Nicky is such a perfect match, oh…Ada, I’m feel like getting jealous with you… Vicki keep crying out, shaking Ada’s arms frequently, that it hurts.

-Ouch, stop it, you’re tearing my arms off…Vicki stop, realizing how silly she had been. Ada smiled and hugged on Vicki shoulder.

-Vicki dear, why are you jealous of me! Aren’t you and Alec, been spending times together. Ada asked teasingly.

Vicki, slow down her pastes, hearing Ada mentioning about Alec.

-There is noting between Alec and me. We kind of bumped into each other often, as I still haven’t got my car back, but I’m sure, Alec is just see me at a friend…And I don’t want to push him…Vicki frowned to herself.

-Well, he just got out of a very serious relationship. At least to him it was important. So I think he needs time. Ada comforted Vicki. What a friend for, when you only need someone for support.

But then the conversation starting to turn backed with Ada engagement to Nicky, and properly a wedding very soon, they hoped.

A few days after.
It was evening, Alec got into his car quickly and drove to pick up Vicki who was a few building further. Tonight they have a small dinner to celebrate on Nicky and Ada engagement. The four, blended in beautifully, as they chat and talk non-stop, about everything.

By ten, the party broke off, and as Nicky took Ada home, Vicki followed Alec. The pasted few days, apart from Ada, Alec was also being very supportive for Vicki. It’s touched her, but still she can’t really tell is Alec falling in love with her or not. So she pushed the subject to the back, as now she decided only to concentrate on building a good friendship.

Vicki, said bye to Alec, while walking out of the car, and makes her way to elevator to her apartment. As she stepped near to her door, she was shock to find Kathy, was sleeping in from of her door.

“She must been waiting long for me!” Vicki thought, feeling sorry why did she came home so late.
Vicki walked to Kathy, she bent down, and shacked Kathy’s shoulder gently, as she whisper Kathy’s name.
On the hearing Vicki voice, Kathy started to stirred and open her eyes, she cried out to see Vicki was there, and immediately got up to hug Vicki.

-“Vicki, your home, oh, I’m sorry, sorry for yell at you, sorry for not believed in you…You were right all the way, Becker is a cheater, and he admitted it..” Kathy cried out on Vicki shoulder, as tears rolled down non-stop.

Vicki was shocked to hear the news, but she tries to clamed down Kathy, and brougt her inside. Vicki helped Kathy to the couch, while she returned to carry Kathy’s big bag in. She carefully closed, and locked the door, and come to seat beside Kathy.

-Kathy! What happened to you? Don’t worry I’m here, you can tell me anything. Vicki, speak out softly.

Kathy sniffed and began her story.

-I was furious about your photo, never the less, it does have some resemble to Becker, so when he came down the next day, I asked him. Out of my expectation, he went straight ahead admitting it. But he said, I was the real one the other girls was just for him to play with. I felt so betrayal so I kicked him outs. I even throw back the ring, he’s just catch it and go…. As Kathy retell the story painfully, she felt in Vicki arm, and start to cry out loud.

-Alright! Don’t cry, everything is over, at least the stupid guy, admitted it, and you now have realized who he really is, so you must be thankful for it…So don’t worry, come and stay with me for a few days, and you will get over it. As Vicki trying to give the best she can to comfort her dear cousin.

Kathy looked up, with her face strain in tears.

-No, Vicki, is not all right! I…I’m ..pregnant. Kathy finally reviewed her true secret the one that worries her the most.

-You’re pregnant? Kathy nodded in reply. Vicki was more shocked herself, never she could thing the situation turned this worst.

-Does auntie and uncle know about this? Vicki remembered back of her strict uncle, and how he’s going to react to the news.

-I haven’t told anyone, you’re the first..Vicki, please help me, father will kill me if he find out. I don’t know what to do, that why I come to you. But…But…I don’t want to lose the baby. Kathy grabbed hard on Vicki hand, begging for a suggestion.

-But you can’t stay here for 9 months to give birth. Mother and auntie will find out for sure…As Vicki was no lesser frustrated. She thinks hard to find a better way. When an idea come up. She turned around to patched Kathy.

-Look, you can stay here with me for while. I will let ma ma know, and asked her to tell auntie. Uncle Sam won’t be back until the end of this week, so we can all think of a way to bring the news to him.

Kathy was not certain, with the idea of telling her father. But she had no other choice but to agreed.
Vicki gave a relief slight since Kathy listened to her, she comfort Kathy a bit more and trying to persuade her to rest. A long night pasted, Vicki was happy and relief, with the ice between her and Kathy have gone, but she also worry for the news, for how to tell her uncle.

Chapter 11

Vicki, walked out of the elevator stopped at the ground floor. Another working day is over. She breathes out slowly to relax herself, by then her mobile started ringing.

-Way!..Mama..Vicki called out, so happy to hear from her mother. And continue walking to the door.

-Vicki dear, how is Kathy doing? Mr Zhao asked in concern, as her love for Kathy is not much different of her love for Vicki. She usually told people that she had two daughters.

-Um, Kathy is doing all right. Ma Ma, so how is aunty? As Vicki urged to find out the family’s reaction. She had called her ma ma, the night Kathy came, to inform them that Kathy was with her, and also to review the headache with her mama. Vicki hope for Mama can comfort on auntie Hong, and the two ladies with the rest of the family will contributed together to persuade Uncle Sam to except the truth.

-She’s fine, we’ll getting ready for tomorrow, when your uncle return. Mrs Zhao replied to ensured her daughter.

-Oh, mama, I can’t come home this weekend, is there anyway you can ask Dave and Jill to drive my car to me. I can’t of need. As Vicki had been looking forward to have her own car back, so she should not bother Alec, no more.

-Yes, dear, I’ll ask Dave to drop the car to you! Mrs Zhao presently replied.

Just then, Vicki spotted Alec’s car have pulled in the car park. She quickly said good bye to her mama, and walked over to Alec, don’t want to bother him to get out.

-Hey you! Vicki said with a bright smile, while stepped in the front seat.

-Hi? How was your day! Alec replied back with Vicki smile.

-Oh, it was okay. You know works, never be great. Vicki described her view on works to Alec, as he slowly reversed out of the parking plot and head to the main road.

-Vicki, do you need to go anywhere else? As Alec as the usually question he asked her everyday.

And usually Vicki would answer “No”. But today is different.

-Um, actually, I kind off need to do some shopping…Looking at Alec, hoping it would be okay. But she continued. You see, I hardly shop before, but now since Kathy is with me so I have to at least feed her proper food. In a long term, she is pregnant. Vicki straight forward speaks out her worry, as Alec was so familiar with the whole story, so she doesn’t feel restricted when talking to him. And Alec in returned love to listen.

The two chats on for a while, laughter would arouse now and then, until the got out of the car, and together go to the local supermarket.

-I’m in big trouble, I had no idea what to buy for a pregnant woman. As Vicki suddenly realized her weakness.

But Alec laughed on seeing Vicki innocent slight.

-Hey, What are you laughing at! It’s true, I never been pregnant, so how would I know…As she pushed hard the empty basket into Alec chest, as a punish for him made fun as her.

Vicki roused down and up, one aisle to another, picking up things, and let it down, have another thought and picked it up again, put in the basket.

Alec didn’t say anything, he tried hard to control his laughter causing by her action in shopping.

“This girl have absolutely no idea how to shop for food. Wonder has she ever been down the kitchen.” Alec giggled to himself upon the funny thought. Bur he does admied very much on her careness and help to her cousin.

After an hours more, Vicki managed to picked out a little bit of everything. Well that the least she can do, rather then take nothing home, and let Kathy to stave.

Alec parked his car at the plot near the entrance, he got out and offers to help Vicki carrying the shopping to her apartment.

-Oh, thanks Alec, share with me, if it too heavy for you. Vicki reminds Alec to be careful, as she can’t really tell him not to do it.

Kathy, ran to the door as she hear the bell rang.

-Vicki, you home! Hey let me help you. Kathy happily greeted for Vicki returned, but once she spotted all the plastic bag that Vicki was carrying, she quickly grab them from Vici's hands, and walked inside, unaware of Alec also walked in, with another lots of shopping bags.

-Wow, Vicki, you usually go shopping that much. Amazed Kathy by the huge amount of food Vicki brought home, while Vicki was helping Alec, she heard the question and cried out.

-Usually I don’t even go shopping, it only for you and my niece or nephew in there. Vicki joked.

Alec on hearing it, he wanted to laught, but as he just moved, Vicki turned around and look at him in the eyes, he looked away smiling. And continued carry the bag to the kitchen.

Kathy was attract by all the food, she looked through each bag to find out, what was in it. It only to her awareness, when she saw another lots of bags been put down on the floor. Kathy looked up to find Alec charming face, smiling at her.

-Hi you're….Kathy mumbled, for a minute she thought it as Vicki boyfriend.

-Oh, I’m Alec, Vicki’s friend..and driver…As he turn to gave Vicki an teasing look.

Vicki one seeing the two strange meeting, she quickly ran to them, and made the introduction.

-Hey Kath, this is Alec, he’s Mr Qwen’s nephew.

-Oh, your Mr Qwen’s nephew, I see, that why you look so familiar. Kathy came to her recognition, that she did saw Alec before.

-Yeah, he came with his uncle on you eng……As Vicki stopped in sudden, she realized that she should not have mention it.

Kathy turned her head down, and Alec looked at Vicki. But to break the ice, Vicki quickly turn to Alec.

-And Alec this is my best cousin, Kathy, she step toward and patch on Kathy’s shoulder.

And on understanding what Vicki was doing, Alec happily replied in an quick reaction.

-Oh, I heard a lot about you! Vicki couldn't stop telling how nice her cousin is! Kathy looked up, smiled shyly at Alec.

“Am I wrong, or is he flirting with my cousin!” A strange feeling invaded Vicki body, as she watched the other two happily getting to know each other. But with the fact that Alec and her was nothing, she let it go, and continued on the story for while, before Alec take his leave

Chapter 12

Since Vicki got her car back, she would no longer be bother Alec everyday. And since Kathy is staying with her, so she usually went home early to keep her cousin company, although she missed the times spending with the others three (Ada, Nicky and Alec).

But instead, the friends decided to come and visit Vicki one by one. Well Ada come with Nicky ofcouse. And Kathy would have the chance in meeting more people from the city, as she always wanted. One of her favored among them, is a young charming men, who always be so kind to her, every time he come to visit. His smile swept her to fly to her dreamland. Kathy was a very naïve and soft girl. Her emotional can aroused very easily just by a single word of sweetness, or a gentle action. That why she fall for Becker.

Alec on the other hands was treating Kathy as a sister of his own, as a friend who needing help. He tried to talk and comfort her. But never know that had lead to in inner feeling. Until one day he made it clear.

-How are you enjoying here Kathy! Alec asked, as he grabbed the coffee glass from Kathy. Vicki had gone out, when Alec came, so Kathy asked him to wait for awhile.

-Oh, I’m doing just fine, I got al this people looking after me, and you too. Kathy slight, feeling embarrassed.

-So, have Vicki told you any good news from your family. Alec was more curious in finding about the family reaction.

-Yeah, Vick said my mother had been talking a lot with my father, hopefully he’ll change his mind. Kathy still shyly, as she doesn’t want to looked straight at Alec.

-Oh, that really good, I wished you all the best….So is Vicki going to be back soon? Alec asked, realizing he had been alone with Kathy in the house for nearly half an hour.

-I don’t know….Kathy feeling a bit disappointed, as Alec on talking with her, but keep mentioning about Vicki, so she decided to find out. Alec, do you think Vicki?

Alec was shocked by the questions, it was the first time some body asked him whether he like anyone yet! After the 2 months broke up with Ruby. He quickly gave a smile…pretending nothing.

-Who’s, Vicki? Oh, she is a good friend…

-Only good friend? As Kathy wanting to hear it from Alec.

-Yeah…friend…Alec replied, while thinking twice of the answer popping in this head. He even not sure what does he meant by “friend”.

But upon that, Kathy slight with happiness, feeling there might be a chance for her, may be…

-So do you have a girlfriend yet?

Alec was confuse how Kathy keep asking about this love life, he wonder if she was curious on him or was she doing it for some body else.

-No, I just been dumped by my ex girlfriend, two months ago. So I kind off not in the mood to be with somebody, plus I see nothing yet.

Kathy by now is pouring with disappointed, she knew what Alec meant, and if he want to find a girl, it would not be her turn…So from then on, Kathy return to her normal distance with Alec.

The good news came one week later. When Uncle Sam had missed his daughter so much, that he came to bring her home.
Kathy was so amazed with her father kindness, as he always seem to be very hard outside. She was not forgetting to feel foolish herself for fallen in with Becker, and create a scene with the family. But Kathy soon moved home, for her mother to take care of her, so it left Vicki back with her normal routine. She was more than happy for the understanding that the family had, feeling herself very lucky as well.

Vicki, parked her car, in her usual spot as very member all had, and started to crossed the street to her building. Suddenly she saw Alec, and he’s spotted her as well.

-Hi..they both said in surprised.

-What are you doing here? As Vicki recalled, back the time she spent together with Alec, when he was…her driver.

-Oh, I’m thought I came early for the bank! Alec said, feeling joyful no less.

-Oh, okay! I’ll let you go then, I better head to my building as well. On the sentence, Vicki began to move forward, when Alec words, stopped her.

-Vicki, do you want to come for lunch with Nick and I, since Ada is on her break to visit her mother. I figure you might be lonely. Alec popped the question, as since lately he been enjoying Vicki company every much.

-Oh, no, I won’t step in between, the guys discussion. I got a lot of catch up, since I had to take over Ada’s customers, so I think I’m going to stack in that building for the whole day.
Vicki answer truly, as Ada’s leave had left her with a double load of works to complete.

Alec was a bit disappointed. How he missed the time, he had to drop her off and pick her up. Seeing her everyday, and now seeing her is a trouble.

They quickly to finish the conversation, And Vicki continued to walk in her building, while Alec observed and then moved back to his car, he’s too have to be at work soon.

By lunchtime, Alec and Nicky decided to have their lunch in the canteen, once in awhile, since none of them bother to feel going out.

-Hey! Ada only is going to five days. Brighten up…As Alec teased Nicky, and is feeling missing of Ada.

-How dares you to teased me. Okay, wait, I’ll get you back a big one later. Nicky gave Alec a punched.

Alec giggles, and decided to turn his attention to the city at the corner, watching the news, why enjoy with bread. Suddenly, she froze, feeling all the muscle in himself was out of control and that she and slammed down the floor anytime.

Nicki was alerted of Alec turning white pale, he looked up at the TV where Alec had his eyes too. Suddenly, he cried out.

-Oh, my god! That the travel agent that Ada and Vicki is working! Shouted Nicky, but to his aware Ada was not in the building.

On the city scene is showing the picture of Vicki’s building covered with smoke, and ambulance with fire truck had all surround at area.

Alec lost of words, just quickly ran madly to the door, leaving Nicky calling from behind

-Alec, where are you going?

-I’m going to find Vicki! Alec shouted back while keep running to the car. He going through with the strangest feeling he had every felt before, he’s scare, he’s hurt, and he’s praying. But he got shocked even more, when flashed back review Vicki’s sentence in the morning.

“I got a lot of catch up, since I had to take over Ada’s customers, so I think I’m going to stack in that building for the whole day.”

Chapter 13

-Sir, Have you seen Vicki any where? Alec grabbed hard on Mr Long An, shirt, while he’s trying to get away from the grid but failed.

-No, I haven’t seen her, since lunchtime. The replied let out as soon as possible.

Alec disappointedly let go of his grab, feeling the most terrify fear he ever had. The fear of losing Vicki. He walked aimlessly out of the crown, feeling the sky will fall on top of him any time. As his emotional aroused, he leaded on to a lamb post near by, a strange feeling keep arousing within himself, he could felt hot tears swelling in his eyes. But as he thought of it carefully, he pushed himself up and wiped out his tear out quickly. He didn’t believe that anything bad had happen to her? He got senses that tell him, she is alright! But where is she.

Alec, begin to search for Vicki again, this time he started to walked down the shopping lane, looking through door to door, with all of his wishes for her being well. Alec went in the shop to ask for Vicki, but another person shook his head. So once again, he slowly stepped out of the shop, helplessly he turned to continued walking forward, for the next one. By then, Alec eyes stood still as he turned his back to the front. He felt the happiest feeling aroused in him. Like Spring had came to brighten up his day, after the dark storming winter just pasted. The feeling of seeing Vicki, who relaxingly walking toward him, enjoy her sandwich. Alec yelled “VICKI” to catch her attention, and started walking or in fact he was running to her, with his eyes feel with joy and never left her side.

Vicki, was happily walking down the street, enjoying her turkey sandwich. Just after she took another big bite at her bread, she paused still, trying to find who just called her name. And then she saw him, running desperately to her. “Alec?” She thought.
“What is he doing here?” Vicki was all confused as there no possible answer she could come up with, but as a reflected action, she started walking to him as well.

-Vicki, you’re save! Alec cried, as he put out his arms, wanting to embrace her in to his chest. He wanted to kiss on her hair, on her face, telling her never to do this with him again. But then, he put pressure hard to put down his arms. “She might feel uncomfortable, it will be rude if I do that without her permission”.

Vicki, tried chewed up the food in her month and then swallow quickly as she saw Alec running to he. He put out his arm, as if he was ready to huge her. In the minute, Vicki had no idea what to do, but for sure his he does want to hug her, she will not refuse. Vicki watched intensively, feeling her heart rate increasing and increasing, as they draw nearer to each other. But…then..He put this arm down, as if it was all-wrong. Vicki eyes felt softly as Alec’arms almost reached out to arm, and then fell back to his side. Then she turned her head to faced, with concerned face, not sure what had happen to him.

-Alec, are you alright? What are you doing here? As Vicki spoke out flatly as her thought was no where in the question.

-Um…I…I..Alec suddenly found himself lost in words. He been nearly like insane worried about her, but as now a healthy Vicki is standing in front of him. He doesn’t know what to say, or how to explain for his being at the place.
I…went passed and heard the news of the fire, so I thought you were in there, so I went to check out. Alec didn’t know why he had to lie to her, may be he was not so sure about her feeling, or maybe he was not so sure about his feeling.

-Oh…Vicki slighted with disappointment inside. I went out for lunch, when the fire started. But it only in the kitchen, so no one was seriously hurt. As Vicki, drop her view away from Alec’s eyes, cause she really scared to look at his eyes at this moment, it could drive her crazy with confusing . But she managed to explain the story, to keep him from wondering.

Alec now, had take a turn, to be in the same side with Vicki, and both started walking back to the building.

-The building on damaged like that, what will happen to your company! Alec asked, returning to his old self, clearing away all the mixture feeling that had been having.

-I don’t know, I thing it need feel weeks to repair. If that case I don’t have to work. That will be good. Vicki grinned, but then a thought reminded her. Speaking of work, don’t you have to be at work by now?

“Aiyah” Alec cried out.

-I complete forgot about that, I’m late now. So glad to see you okay, I have to go back to work now okay! By that Alec quickly rushed off to cross the road to his car. Vicki watched him with amazement. “There is something different about him, lately!” But she did not dare to figure out the strange thing within Alec…He just to complicated to understand.

At Alec’s office.
Nicky came right in after he heard Alec went back.

-WHAT! You told that you just passing by! Nicky slapped his hand on the table, after hearing Alec review about the scene when he saw Vicki.

-Why don’t you tell her that, you were worry sick for her, you ran like madness. Why can’t just tell her that you like her! Nicky cried out even louder, as if he want Alec to memorized his words, and later and say it back to Vicki.

-I’m still not sure, my mind is very mixed up. I don’t know is there anything between us. He dropped back in his chair hopelessly, rubbing on two sides of his forehead.

Nicky, even draw himself closer to Alec.

-What, you can’t even analysis your own feeling, then who could…For now, if Nicky and punch Alec to wake him up, he would do it…Alec, Vicki is a very nice girl. I warned you now, that if you let her go, there might be no other time. I promise to stay out of the two of you, so it all up to you, Alec, be confident and determine.

By the sentence, Nicky stormed out of the room, leaving Alec sitting like a statute on his chair. Trying to sum up his feelings.

A few days later, at Vicki house.

The door unlocked, as Vicki, push it opened, and went in carrying her big bag. It’s Sunday night already, and she just been back from Tanpun, visiting her family and Kathy. Among the happy feeling to see everyone all well, and getting so co-operated for Kathy’s circumstances. Kathy is the most happiest, not only she expecting a child for herself. She was starting to discover her real love, as Steve had been the greatest support ever.

Vicki dropped herself on the bed, closing her eyes, feeling a big headache is going to strike her anytime, as she remembered of Kathy’s little story.

Flash Back, on Kathy’s words.

-Vicki, you know what, I just realized that I’m a very silly girl. I mean Steve were there by my side all the time. But I never noticed. But for Alec and Becker, and kind of got the feeling for them right away!

-Alec? Vicki spoke out, not believing that Kathy had fall for Alec as well.
Kathy nodded and continued.

-At first I ask him if he’s looking for a girlfriend, he said, he hasn’t found anybody yet I thought he was your boy friend, but he denied it. Saying you two her close friend.

End of flashback.

“Close friend, just close friend” Vicki called out inside her mind, describing how she hated to hear those words, especially when its from Alec. “He really had nothing for me, if not he would say something at least. It had been two days since the fire incident. Now thinking back of it, my feeling about him was wrong. He just see me as a friend.

Vicki laid still to let her tears followed one another run down her cheek, some passed through her lips, leaving an salty taste in her tongue. Every time, she tried to make it works between her and Alec, is every time, she got this painful feel from her heart.

Chapter 14

-Hi Alec! How are you? Ruby finally said, trying to put a smile on.

-Um, I’m fine, and yourself? Alec answered, it wouldn’t heard just to make a short conversation out of it.

-Um, pretty good. Said Ruby, before both returned to silent.

Suddenly Ruby put her hand put as if she remembered something.

-Oh, I got something you give you, since I see you here, may as well, here you go. Ruby opened her bag and took out a pink envelope and handed to Alec.

Alec picked up the envelope, looked at it, and said.

-What is it? As he wondered.

-Oh, it an invitation, of my engagement with..Simon. He want you to come! Ruby hesitantly said out.

Alec gave a fake laugh looking at the envelop “That stupid Simon, really a cheeky one, he want to make sure that I’m not going after Ruby, so he want me to come to their engagement. Think I’m an idiot!” Alec thought to himself.

-Alec, remember to bring a date okay! Ruby reminds, as her full intention was for Simon to see that Alec had fully over her, and he is with someone else.

Alec paused back to think for a while, before he happily looked up, and replied.

-Okay! I’ll be there.

-Great!
By that the elevator door opened, and both Alec and Ruby walked out. Alec made his way to his car, while Ruby was already been picked up by Simon at the waiting gate.

Ada just gone back from her trip to visit her grandma, and since the fire, both Vicki and Ada got 1 extra week off. So both girl spend quite sometime together. As Ada was driving Vicki home, after a few longs shopping hours. Vicki’s mobile phone started to ring.

-Hello. She answered to the phone. Alec! She was surprised to hear him calling. Um, can I call you back later! She was furious and what decision should she made….Bye…She clicked off the phone.

-Is it Alec? What did he say? As Ada usually habits, every time it comes up to the Alec and Vicki topic.

-He asked me to be his date at Ruby engagement party. Vicki said frowning to herself.

-Great! He asked you! Ada shows a happy expression, but when she noticed Vicki unhappy look on Vicki’s face, she asked.

-What now? What do you want now.!!

-Don’t you feel strange, he never asked me before, and now he asked can I be his dated at Ruby engagement, and Ruby….Vicki give out a long face.

-And Ruby was Alec ex, Ada added in, and she also find Vicki does have some sense in to it. But she clear it up quickly and persuade Vicki.

-Come on may be he’s wanted to ask you out! But could not have the opportunity, and look this a good one. If Alec don’t say it, why don’t to express your feeling for him. You guys are friends now.
-Oh…Friends, I hate that word. Let me think, as Vicki humbled and led her back to the seat, and both girls went silent on the trip to home.

At Ruby’s engagement party.

The Party was more than 100 guests, opened in a reception garden, with dance floor, with cocktail bar and snack. There are no table, so everyone would find a place to stand and chit chat with their partner.

Alec car pulled in, just after seven. After he found a spot to park the car, he immediately got out and walked to the other side, to help Vicki out. After long night of thought, Vicki decided to give her relationship with Alec another chance, so she agreed to go with him to the party. Tonight, she wearing a purple, sleeveless, prawn tail dress, with an open back area. Her hair was put down, and one sparkles were put on. She just looked so simple, yet very elegant and stylish. Alec couldn’t stop giving out compliment about her, all the way to the party.

They made their way arm round arm like a loving couple into the party. Most people would paused back, and amazed on how good the two of them really look together. Both were having bright smile on their faced.

They moment Ruby and Simon saw them, both of shock. Non of them expect Alec would come, apart from that, he would come with the most beautiful girl of the night. Alec took Vicki forward to meet Ruby, and Simon, as it only their first time. They great the about to engaged couple and walked off to get a drink and some food.

Vicki and Alec were standing at one corner together with the drink on their hand. Vicki was attracted to the dance floor, where the music had began, and couples could make their way to the floor, including Ruby and Simon as the first.

-See, I told you, you looked stunning tonight! Everybody is staring at you. Alec whispered to Vicki, as she put her head down and blush with shyness.

Suddenly, Alec grabbed Vicki’s glass and put it down together with his on a table near by. He came back and put his hand out politely.

-May I have a dance miss, before other people jumped in and take you away. He joked.

Vicki grinned, as she put out her hand on to Alec, and both make their way to the dance floor.

A famous love melody was playing. As Alec’s hands were holding on to Vicki small waist line, and Vicki, wrapped her arms around his neck. They both only had their eyes on each other. Never mind about the surrounding people who were watching them, even Ruby and Simon. They danced together like that for two slow songs. But after the third song, Vicki would feel all her feeling for Alec that she had tried to push back, had finally exposed, and it was invading all over her body, as she could feel her heart pounding more and more louder.

Alec couldn’t stop himself, but to look in Vicki’s mysterious round eyes, she never looked to beautiful as tonight, he wanted to tell her something, but he couldn’t affair it will break of the loving atmosphere that they both had.

As the third song stopped, Vicki quickly pulled Alec hand, and walked out of the dance floor into the entranceway, where there was no one around. Alec was surprised, but he walked after her. When they got out from the crown. Vicki let go of Alec’s hand.

-Vicki, what wrong? He asked concernedly.

Vicki stood silent for a moment, before she gathered all her confidant to asked him.

-Alec! Do you like me? Alec was shock with the question, he’s been trying to find a way to tell me, never expect that she would be the first one to ask him.

Upon seeing Alec was shocked, Vicki slights to herself, as if this can’t be good, but she decided to go on.

-I liked you Alec! I really do. She said softly, looking into his eyes to searching for an answer.
Alec was crying with overjoyed inside, but he couldn’t know how to express it. Everything just too shock, too sudden. Until, he heard himself saying something.

-Vicki, I known we been close friends…..

Here is that word again, the word that she been wishing will not come out of Alec, but there is it, dancing in front of her eyes, “Friends”. Vicki felt her dream, was slowly collapsed on top of her. She let go of Alec’s arms and took a step back, her eyes filled with tears of disappointment.

-Why do we always have to be friend, Vicki cried out. I don’t want friends. Alec! Don’t you know, I want something that is more than just friends, or close friends! By that Vicki took a run out to the gate. And waved for a taxi.

As Alec, was watching in shock, he blamed himself for not going straight to the point. He want to tell her that he likes her, even loved her very much. But now was so late. Alec chased after Vicki out the gate, but as he got outside, he would only see the back of the taxi car driving away, with the girl he loved and just been hurt by him.

Alec, stood still, feeling the most terrified fear arousing him. After a few minutes alone, Alec decided to go home, and have a long thought.

Chapter 15

But time flied, Alec was too busy with practicing his pre-prepared speech later. It was then nice o’clock. As Alec was about to dial the number on his phone, his eyes brighten up to see Vicki just walked out of the apartment exit door. He was getting ready to get out of the car, then he paused. His face suddenly turned from pale in to a green color of jealousy. Because in front of his eyes, he saw Mr Long An, stepped out of his car, and opened the door for Vicki to get in. She was smiling and happily got in the car, and drove off, passing Alec, still frozen with coldness.

At Nicky’s place.

Ada quickly pushed Nicky aside when he just opened the door for her to get it. With no hesitantly, she dashed to Alec, who was sitting on the couch, and grab on his shirt to pull him stand up, facing her.

-Alec, what did you do to Vicki. She went through so much and you still reject her. Why? Is Vicki not good enough for an idiot like you. Ada angrily yelled at Alec, while clutching on his shirt tier.

Nicky had to jump in to grab Ada back.

-Ada, calm down. Alec didn’t mean that. He like Vicki too, but he was to scare to tell her that! Nicky put his arms around Ada’s waist to whole her temper back.

-What? You liked Vicki? So why can’t you tell her. What is the problem with you men when it come to commitment.

Alec just stood still, and let Ada shaked his body from side to side. He was blaming himself the same thing, after this morning. Nicky on seeing that, speaks out for his friend.

-Alec, was going to tell Vicki this morning, but instead he saw…. he saw Vicki with your boss.

-Who? Mr Long An…Ada got more anger, she lead pasted Nicky to slap on Alec chest. You are such an idiot, you haven't confessed with her about your feeling and yet you got jealous, of her, going out with her boss. Well, let me tell you this, Our building has been restructure, and we will be moving to a new temporary office. This morning, Mr Long An, made an appointment to take Vicki and me with some other staffs to the new place. Now, you still jealous? Vicki just happened to be the first one he picked up.

On hearing Ada words, Alec just liked a new person fully awake.

-Ada, really? He finally asked.

-What do you think me lying? Ada replied truthfully

On that, Alec put on his brightest smile, he grab the keys on the table and head to the door.

-Alec, where are you off to now? Nicky asked, on seeing Alec acting strangely again, just like last time at the canteen, when he heard the news about the fire.

-I’m going to see Vicki..and…Alec turned back to answered, but after he mentioned Vicki, Ada quickly jumped in.

-She gone back to her parent already. She said out loud so Alec could hear clearly.

-Then, I’m going to Tanpun. Alec replied while waving his hand to Nicky and Ada.

-Wait, wait Alec…As Ada ran to grab hole of Alec one more time. I tell you what, you better get Vicki back here for me, or I…I…I will not marry Nicky. Ada spoke out her warning, just after that Nicky gave a shocking cry.

Alec reassured Nicky, not to worry and quickly ran to his car.

When Alec had gone, Ada tiredly dropped herself down the coach.

-Cheese, am I hot or what? Ada complained while flapping her hand as a fan. Nicky quietly bend down beside Ada, and softly asked.

-Sweetie, about the marry thing, you’re not really mean it right? As Nicky gave Ada an uncertain looked.

While Ada cheekily turned away, rounded her arms and said strongly “I meant it”

Nicky, let out a crying sound, and laid himself on the sofa next to him. “Alec, Alec…you better come back with Vicki, or I’m done…Lao tien ye(La~o the^' gia)(God), please help him” Nicky prayed to himself.

In Tanpun.

Alec arrived at the Zhao Sam restaurant, when it has turned dark. He walked inside to met with all the family weird eyes, looking as him. Before he could open his mouth to speak, Kathy jumped in.

-Vicki is at the back yard, go…As Kathy moved her head to make a signal for Alec to go. Look like everybody in the family had known everything.

Alec ran out to the backyard. A familiar site hit his eyes. There was the peaceful view that Vicki had took him to before, and now, Vicki was still there, sitting on the stone seat, that they both had sat on. Alec slowly tips toes to Vicki, as he stood behind her back, since she was facing the lake.

-I finally found you! He said to surprise Vicki.

Vicki was surely got a surprised of Alec present as she turned to faced his eyes, she remembered what happened last night, so she stood up to walk away, but Alec was quick enough, to held her hand back. He then walked to the front of the seat, so he could be facing with Vicki, his eyes looked deep into her eyes, while his hands are still holding on to her hands.

-Vicki, I looked for you, so I can finished what I was going to say last night. So please listen to me. Alec lowered his voice, begging her. As Vicki had no objection, he continued.

-Vicki, what I meant to say in last night, was even know we had a close friendship, but I no longer see you as my friend. Vicki eyes, opened while, she stood silently just to look in his eyes.
She could feel he is telling the truth.

-I see now and forever more, you will be the most beloved person of my life. I was just to scare to confess so soon, since I once did it and failed. But I realized something, remember the day your building got on fire, well I was in the canteen watching the news with Nicky, and as soon as I heard the news, I feel my whole body had gone solemnly. I quickly ran to your place, in my mind was only wishing for you to be fine. When I couldn’t find you in the crown, I was completely lost, and emptiness, until I saw you fine again, then I started to relax myself.

Alec while talking moved his hand to hole on Vicki’s upper arms, she could feel the warmth from his hand transferring in to her body. Happy tears were about to dropped on Vicki face, but Alec tender wiped them out. And he continued on.

-But, last night, after you left, I felt that same horrible feeling arousing in me all night, then I realized, that you were the most important thing to me…And I…Alec suddenly stopped, as Vicki laid her finger on his lips, indicating him don’t have to speak any more.

She slowly put her hand around his back, while his hand was holding on her waist pulled her closer to him.

-Don’t says anymore. Vicki softly speaked out. You had said all the thing that I wanted to hear, and now I only like you to do one thing! Vicki looking at Alec lovely, as she was speaking from the bottom of her heart.

Alec by now had also relief, since Vicki had listened to him, upon hearing her wanting him to do something, he pushed his eyebrows up, to asked, what is it?

-Can you kiss me? Vicki said.

They both tie-in the embrace to draw each other closer. Vicki stood on her toes, and put up her head, while Alec bend down, they moving in slowly, until their lips tenderly touch the other. A first kiss, and the most passionate kiss, that both had never experience before, and they will treasure it forever.

Vicki, finally nestled in Alec arms, after the long kissed, and lead her head on his chest, for the first time, closed her eyes she could listened to his heart rate. Everything just come all at once and too smoothly that Vicki doubted if this was real, but as she listen to Alec heart rate, she known for sure, it is true.

Vicki, slowly put up her head to look at Alec’s face..

-So, tell me the truth, how long it took you to write up that speech. Vicki coming back to she mischievous.

-What?…I just doing it, because Ada said that if I don’t bring you back, she will not going to marry Nicky. Alec fought back with a joke, which was real.

-What? Vicki got shock, then they both broke out into laughter as the hugged each other, happily enjoined the moment together. Despairing a hole group of curious people, watching and giggles from a far corner.

Nicky and Ada, had decided to get marry at the end of the year, as both of them adored Christmas time. It was five months pasted. And now in Oct, just more than one month stills the wedding. And today was the photo session for Nicky and Ada. Alec and Vicki ofcouse were going to be best man, and bridesmaid. And they also come long to the session. Suddenly Ada popped out an idea, when she spotted a newly design bride gown on the display window, she pulled Vicki over to have a look, leaving the guys watching them furiously.

-Hey Vick, that dress will look prefect on you? As Ada draw Vicki nearer, to look at the dress, it was a simple strapless dress, with little clear pearl surrounding the hammed line.

-No, what are you doing with me! Vicki embarrassingly refused

But why should Ada give up, so she waved and asked the lady to take the dress out.

When Nicky saw Ada was looking at another dress, he quickly ran over to stop.

-Hey, what are you doing, changing your mind again..No..you don’t. No more dress. As Nicky laid his hands on Ada shoulder, while Alec came to stand beside Vicki.

-Aiyah, you silly. Ada gave Nicky a loving slap on his cheek. I was asking it for Vicki. What do you think Alec.

Alec gave a big smile, and nodded to Vicki, as an indication, he like her to try it. With that Vicki happily smile back, and took the dress from the lady hand, and shyly walked in the changing room.

Within five minutes, the three of them came in the fitting room, waiting for Vicki to come out. The fitting room, features six mirrors on different six angels, it used for the customer to be able have a full view about the most important dress that they going to wear on the most important day of their life.

Alec, was amazed, when Vicki walked out of her changing room , she had turned into a beautiful bride. In his eyes she was the most beautiful. As Alec walked dreamingly to hold her hand. “You’re so beautiful” He whispered.

-Wow, Vicki, you looked stunning, it make me want to get the same dress. Ada cried out with joy.
-Oh, no you don’t, you are coming outside with me, before you change your mind again. As Nicky pulled his little stubborn wife to out of the fitting room, as he knew Alec was asking for sometime alone with Vicki.

Alec and Vicki, both giggled on Ada childish, but they soon turned their attention back to each other.

-Do you like it? Vicki asked, as she did a full spin for Alec to see.

-Yes, I loved it, as I loved you. He said softly, as Vicki put her head down blushing.

She then push Alec aside, so she could see the dress for herself in the mirrors. But Alec, turned to stand behind Vicki, and wrapped his arms around her waist, as he put his lips beside her ear.

-Vicki, let get marries with Nicky and Ada? He asked loud enough that only Vicki could hear.

She was surprisingly stunned by the proposed. She turned around and hugged on Alec’s neck, and slowly she pushed herself up, to give him a tender kiss on the lips.

After they slowly let go, while eyes still attaching to one another.

-Is that for a yes? Alec said cheekily.

Vicki laughed out and pointed her forehead to met his forehead. She grinned.

-It’s a yes, but our wedding have to take much longer then a month to prepare, okay?

Alec, put on the biggest smile he had ever had, and he bend down to embraced her tier.

-I guess I better start looking for the date now? Alec whispered.

-You better be! Answered Vicki, as then both keep on cuddling, each other, they forgotten the two friends who had been spying on them all the way.
