Mysteries of Love
Hi people. This is my first fanfic and I have to admit that I
haven't really thought about the storyline thoroughly. So don't be
surprised if I suddenly ask the web-mistresses to take my story off. My
story may not be as good as some of the other writers but I've got to tell
you, I'm not a writer I prefer sports to writing. Anyway I'm just doing this for
pastime. The story may not be very good but hope you have fun reading it. ^_^

Profiles:
Vicki Zhao: She takes after her father's last name. A sweet natured girl
but also very tomboyish. She loves practicing her kung fu and disguising
herself as a boy and going out. She has a twin called Ruby. Later falls in love
with Alec.18 years old
Ruby Lin: She takes after her Mother's last name. She is the twin of Vicki but
they are not identical twins. She loves sewing, reading poetry, practicing
her kung fu and getting into mischief with her sister. Later falls in love with
Jimmy. 18 years old
Alec Su: A rich man who has a mysterious background. He likes mucking
around with his friend Jimmy and practicing his kung fu. He later falls in love
with Ruby, that is, until he meets her twin Vicki. 19 years old
Jimmy Lin: A funny guy who takes the easy road down life. Loves playing
tricks on people (except for Alec because Alec always out smarts him) .Best
friend of Alec and the only person who knows about Alec's past. He falls in love
with Ruby. 19 years old.

Prologue
"Please, I beg you. Please don't kill me. I bear you r children,
please!!" the woman begged her husband. The woman was carrying
8-month-old twins in her stomach. Her face was streaked with tears and her
clothes ripped from running. She was wearing only one shoe. The other lost
somewhere in the woods. "My children? You have the face to say that
they are my children?" asked the husband in a cruel, cold voice. A
bolt of lightning struck down a nearby tree, distracting the husband. The lady
taking the chance escaped to an abandoned cottage near by . "I will
kill you one day, I promise you. I will kill you and your children." Vowed
the husband.
“Ruby, Vicki come here I want to talk to you for a moment” asked mother one morning in a grave voice.“Coming mother!” answered both Vicki and Ruby at the same time. “What is it mother?” asked Ruby, sensing the seriousness in her mother’s voice. “You girls are now old enough for me to tell you the truth about why we are living here and why I won’t let you make contact with anyone. It all started before you two were born. Your father was really sweet and kind to me until one day he found me hugging his best friend. He thought I was having an affair, what he didn’t know was that his best friend’s mother had just died and I was comforting him. Your father got jealous but decided to keep quiet about it. Three months later he found that I was pregnant with you two. He thought that it was his best friend’s child so he got immensely jealous and tried to kill us. He succeeded in killing his best friend with his sword but I got away. But he has vowed he would kill us, so I have decided to let you two out into the world and not live in fear. I want you two to go to Beijing city and find your uncle, Fang Mien Lang. I have told him in advance and he will be expecting you.” Finished mother tearfully. By now the twins were also crying and hugged their mother tightly. “But mother…we can’t bear to leave you. When we’re gone who’ll get the firewood and who will get the water each morning. We cannot bear to leave you with all the housework.” Sobbed Vicki. ‘Shh…there, there my child. I’ll be fine by myself. Remember I raised you two all on my own. I’ll be fine by myself. Don’t worry.” With that she sent the twins off to play.
“Vicki I don’t want to leave mother…do you?” asked Ruby. “Of course I don’t but it’s mother’s wish and I don’t want to disobey mother,” answered Vicki, “that’s why I’m going to chop a lot off extra firewood for the coming winter and for the winter after that. I don’t care if my hands are all blistered and cracked but it’s the least I could do for mother.” “I’m going to finish the garden that I started and I’ll plant it with all different vegetables so it’ll be ripe by next spring. Then I’ll make us all some new clothes for winter so that mother doesn’t have to do it.” Ruby told Vicki after a while of thinking. They both get to work and after a couple of days Vicki has 2 full sheds of firewood chopped and Ruby had their new gown made. They were set to leave the next morning. They backed their belongings into their bags and carried their swords on their belts. They laid man clothing so they could leave early in the morning without attracting attention. They also got out some dark coloured blush and were planning on putting it on in the morning so that they didn’t look so pale. They went to sleep early that night so they could wake up early the next morning.
The next morning They woke up just before dawn. They put on their clothing and the blush as planned. They went in to the kitchen and was surprised to see some gan lian (dry/preserved food eg. Biscuits) on the table. They were even more surprised to see their mother preparing breakfast for them. “Mother! You shouldn’t be up this early.” Exclaimed Ruby. “But I couldn’t bear to not see my two little children for the last time. Remember once you’ve reached Beijing, do not try to contact me as it would put both you and me in danger. Your uncle will have constant contact with me.” A\Said their mother with tears threatening to fall. Both girls ran up to their mother and hugged her tight before sitting down to have breakfast together for the last time. After breakfast the sun just started rising. They got their backpacks and started their journey towards Beijing.

By the way, they twins learnt their martial arts from their mother. Her mother before in the prologue was carrying the two children in her stomach so she couldn’t use her qin gon just in case she had a miscarriage
So what do you think? Is it ok? I’m kind of stuck on how to let the four people meet eg Vicki meeting Jimmy and the Ruby meeting Alec. The clashes of metal
could be heard as two figures fight. Both very handsome. But one takes the fun
side of life while the other takes the more serious side. They are none other
than Alec and Jimmy.
They have been friends ever since their parents died one night in a huge fire (but that was 10 years ago). They love to practice their kung fu on each other, and because both of them are smart, they got better and better. They are known as The Invincible Duo. They trang da jiang hu ***not really sure how to explain it, I think it means to enter the world of martial arts and sword fighting ***
“ Aiyah!!! Da ge
***elder brother, even thought they’re not real brothers*** shaow sia liu qing
ah ***have mercy*** we’re play fighting!!! What are you trying to do? Kill
me?” asked a be-wild Jimmy.
“Sorry. I just got
caught up in the moment,” replied Alec sheepishly, “come on, we’d better
get back home. It’s getting dark.”
“ok.” Jimmy agreed.
They started walking
back home, but just as they started walking. A young lady flew down from a
nearby tree and said “are you the Invincible Duo?”
Alec and Jimmy replied
with a nod of their heads. “May we know who you are?”
Young lady: “My name
is Fang Yi. I wish to challenge you to a martial arts contest. Do you accept?”
Alec: “sorry we
don’t fight with ladies.”
Fang Yi: “Why? Are
you afraid of losing? Or are you just plain chicken? Do you not even have faith
in yourself to beat a girl?”
Jimmy: “hey! We
didn’t say we were chicken. We just don’t normally fight with ladies. But
since you insist. Then prepare to be beaten.”
Fang Yi: “Bring it
on” She took a fighting stance.
Alec, seeing that he
had no choice, he and Jimmy both got into a fighting stance.
Fang Yi started off by
launching a high kick at Jimmy, who easily blocked her. He then retaliated with
a punch. Soon the fight was in top speed. Metal was clashing together as both
parties got their jien ***Chinese sword*** out.
Alec and Jimmy started doing a series of spinning kicks confusing Fang
Yi. Jimmy, seeing that she was confused. He took the chance and kicked the girl
hard in the back.
Fang Yi: oww!!! No
fair.
“You asked for a
fight and you got one. I suggest that you practice some more before challenging
anyone else.” Said Alec coolly as always.
“Yeah, you could get
yourself killed. If we weren’t such gentlemen, we would’ve pulverised
you!” added Jimmy with a grin.
Fang Yi stormed off,
never so embarrassed in her life. “you’ll pay for that”
“Come on Jimmy, lets
go back home. My stomachs starting to growl.” Asked, (more like commanded)
Alec.
“Yes sir!!” replied
Jimmy in a mocking tone.
As they got home they
sat down to eat.

“Jie ***older sis***, when are we going to get there?” Asked an impatient Vicki.
“Shhh…I’m your ge.
Remember we’re dressed up as guys.” Scolded Ruby.
“Alright Alright. But
when are we going to reach Fang shu shu’s ***uncle*** house?” replied the
stubborn Vicki
“We’re almost
there. It should be right around the corner.” Sighed Ruby. She was used to her
little sister’s impatience.
Finally they reached
Fang Mien Lang’s house. They knocked on the big red door. After a minute or
two a servant came out and asked “Are you miss Vicki Zhao and miss Ruby
Lin?”
“yes” replied the
two girls at the same time.
“Lao Ye ***master***
has been expecting you. Please follow me.” After they reached the garden
“Please wait here while I go to inform Lao Ye.”
“thanks you” said
Ruby.
After the servant left
Vicki exclaimed “wow…look at this garden. It’s splendid. It much better
than the garden at home.”
Before Ruby could
reply, an old man walked into the garden. “Vicki? Ruby? Is that you?” asked
the man questionly. “Yes, that is us.” Replied Vicki. “Look how you’ve
grown!! The both of your turned out a beauty just as your mother. I am your
uncle Fang.”
“Uncle!!!” Both
girls exclaimed “We finally get to meet you. They both ran to hug their uncle
for the first time.”
“Liu Yu, please take
these ladies to their rooms.” Commanded Fang Mien Lang. “Shi ***yes*** Lao
Ye.” The maid bent her knees in the traditional Chinese custom and lead Vicki
and Ruby to their bedrooms.
After the girls had put
down their belongings, had a bath and changed clothes, they joined their uncle
for dinner. As they were walking back to their rooms….5 black figures flew
from the roofs and started to fight them. Even thought the girl knew kung fu,
they were out numbered.
One of the men aimed a
kick at Ruby, but seeing this Vicki quickly went pushed Ruby out of the way,
receiving the kick instead. All five men were very highly trained martial arts
expert and quickly captured Ruby and Vicki. Ruby received some bad bruises,
minor cuts from a dagger (that one of the men used) and a sprained wrist. Vicki
on the other hand was injured more severly. She had spat blood out when she was
blocked the kick from one of the men. She was unconscious. They men spilt up
(two men took Ruby west, two men took Vicki East and the last one went to inform
their master that they’ve captured the two girls.

“Ge, what’s all that noise?” asked Jimmy, who was wakened by the sounds of running feets.
“I don’t know,
let’s go check it out” replied Alec calmly
They went out
side only to see five men carrying two black sacks. They saw the man split up
and decided to follow. Jimmy
followed one group to the west and Alec followed the other group to the east.

The crunches of leaves were heard as the men in black ran across the open fields. Alec followed quickly but quietly behind them. The men begin to notice that someone was followed them. They served around only to see no one. One of them put down the sack and said, “Who goes there? Stop following us! Show yourself.” Alec slowly came out of the shadow of a tree. “Let the young lady go.” Alec demanded. “Just try to take her away. We’ll kill you. I think it’s best that you keep out of this before we lose our temper and kill you.” Replied the first man in a smug tone. “Ha! Ha! Ha! Do you know who I am?” asked Alec innocently.
The second man “Do you know who we are? We belong to the famous Dragon Clan.”
“So? Is that meant to scare me? I’ve already defeated your master. Do you think that you’re better than your master?”
“Rubbish. Only two people have defeated our master and they were the Invincible Duo. Who are you to say that you defeated our master?”
“You really don’t know who I am, do you? I am Alec Su. And Jimmy Lin is my xiao di *smaller brother*.
The two men’s faces ashened. “Please, please spare us. We’re under strict orders from our shifu *master* to bring back Vicki Zhao and Ruby Lin to him. P-please d-don’t kill us. We beg you.”
Alec replied “ I will let you go, but the girl stays with me.”
Men: Thank you Su gong zi *it’s like young master* they quickly ran away. Wondering how they were going to explain it to their shifu.
Alec, seeing that the two ran away, opened the bag and gasped at the beauty of the young girl inside. She had raven black hair that shone in the pale moonlight, cherry shaped lips, with a natural tint of pink on them. Alec soon regained his composure and carried the girl to a deserted temple.
HE lay the girl down as he went to lay some straw to make a bed. Once the ‘bed’ was made he layed the girl on it. As he checked the girl for bruises, he realised that she was indeed very beautiful. He found that her ‘chi’ was running all over the place. He needed to take action right then and there. He sat the girl up and sat down behind her. He made his chi go to its highest level and focused the energy onto the girl as he pushed his hands onto her backed. Sweat was soaking his clothes as he used more and more energy. Finally he got her chi to run back to its normal pace. Exhausted he laid the girl down and covered her up with more straw before he lay down to sleep.
***At the same time this was happening***
Jimmy ran after the two guys in black. “Oi!!! Let her go!” The men just kept on running. Jimmy got annoyed and jumped up to attack the guy. He jumped in front of them, forcing them to stop. Jimmy kicked towards the two men and continued to launch attacks. The men, seeing that they had no choice, dropped the bag and began to fight. Although the two men were good in martial arts, they were no match for Jimmy. He defeated them easily. The two men stumbled away quickly to report back to their shifu.

“Gu niang *young lady* are you ok? Come on wake up. Gu niang! Gu niang!” Jimmy has been trying to wake up Ruby for over an hour. Finally Ruby starts to stir. “Wha? Who are you? Stay away from me.” Exclaimed Ruby. She suddenly punched Jimmy in the face. “What was that for?” asked Jimmy angrily. “Who are you? And why am I here?” Ruby asked, ignoring Jimmy’s question. Jimmy answered, “I saved you from those men in black, and this is how you repay me? You passed out when I found you so I took you over here to try and wake you up.” “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry. Thank you for saving me,” Ruby looks around, “did you happen to save my sister as well?” You’re sister?” asked Jimmy questionly. “Yeah,” said Ruby, “she’s got big brown eyes, a playful smile and is bout my height. We were walking back to our rooms when these men showed up and started to fight us.” “Oh! I guess she was person in the other sack. My brother’s gone to look for her. Those men were taking you towards the west and taking your sister towards the east. Don’t worry about her. My brother will look after her.” “You don’t understand!!! Vicki despises men, ever since… aiyah! I’ve said to much. I better go and find her.” Ruby tried to get up but because of her sprained wrist she fell back down with a bump. “You better look after yourself first. What’s this about your sister? Why does she despise men?” “Sorry I can’t tell you. She made me swear not to tell.”
***OVER TO ALEC AND VICKI***
The next day. Vicki woke up. She found herself lying on a bed of straw. ‘What am I doing here’ she wondered to herself. She tried to sit up but started in a fit of coughs so she had to lie down again. The coughing woke up Alec. “Gu niang, you’ve woken up. How are you feeling today?” Alec asked worriedly. “Who are you? Why am I here? Why am I with you?” a stream of questions came out of Vicki’s mouth. “I saved you from some men. You were in pretty bad shape and your chi was running all over the place. I’ve healed you partly but you might still need to stay here for a while.” Alec replied amused. “I don’t need your help. I can take care of myself.” Retorted Vicki in a cold tone. After saying that, she tried to get up once more, but a wave of dizziness hit her and she fell….of course Alec caught her just as she was falling and helped her to sit down. Alec was confused. Normally people would be grateful that someone saved their life, but she was cold. Not even a bit of gratitude.
“Hey, hey, hey. I just saved you life. Can’t you be at least a bit grateful?” argued Alec. “I don’t trust men. All men are the same, selfish and ungrateful.” Retorted Vicki once more. By now Alec was steaming mad. “Fine then, be like that. See if I care if you die or live.” “Fine. I will.” With this, Vicki got up again, summoned the strength and started to stumble out. Alec just watched. Even thought he didn’t really want her to go, he had his pride. So what if the stupid girl wanted to kill herself, he doesn’t care….or does he? When Alec looked out the door, to see if Vicki had gone yet, he found her collapsed in a heap unconscious. “Oh no!” Cried Alec. Why was he so stupid enough to let her go, even though he knew that she wasn’t strong enough to travel? He quickly ran outside and gathered her up in his arms, ready to carry her back in. Vicki woke up before he reached the temple and started to struggle, “let me down! Let me down!” she cried, But to no avail. Alec continued to carry her back in. When he finally reached her ‘bed’ he put her down.
SLAP!!! Alec’s hand went up to touch where she just slapped him. He
wasn’t angry, just frustrated that she wouldn’t trust him. Vicki tried
once more to get away but started coughing again. This time she spat out
blood and fainted again. Seeing this, Alec quickly took Vicki’s pulse again.
He gasped when he realised that her chi was wild again. He quickly pulled
her into a sitting position. He sat behind her, raised him own chi level
and pushed his hand up against her back. Smoke started to rise and both
heir bodies were drenched in sweat. Alec was almost out of energy but he
knew he must keep going or else Vicki would die. He continued to do so
until Vicki spat out dark coloured blood, then he himself spat out blood.
(The activity had caused him to harm a bit of his own chi. He would need
a couple of days before he would be at his best again.)

I know I’m really focusing on Alec
and Vicki, but they’re my actors. I will try to focus on Ruby and co some
more. But for now…more on Alec and Vicki
Vicki woke after a couple of hours. Before, she felt as if there were a thousand needles stabbing into her chest. She found Alec asleep next to her (he didn’t have the energy to move back to his bed so he slept right there). There were the remains of dried blood on Alec’s mouth and some near his head on the straw. She thought to herself ‘maybe I jumped to my conclusion to quick. Maybe he was trying to help.’ She sat up and got some straw and covered Alec’s body, first checking if he was ok.
She stood up and gathered some firewood a lit a fire. She then went out
to get some water. When she came back she saw that Alec was still sleeping. She
was boiling the water when Alec woke up. “How are you?” He asked. “I’m
fine,” Vicki replied, “thank you for saving me, but I think I’ll set out
to look for my sister soon.” Alec stood up and sat down next to her. She
busied by chopping up vegetables she had collected. They didn’t say anything
to each other until their lunch was ready.
***OVER
TO RUBY AND JIMMY***
“Aiyah,
hurry up Jimmy.” Ruby said. Ruby and Jimmy had become good friends and they
had set out together to find Alec and Vicki. Jimmy had ended up carrying both
their luggage. “You’re not the one who’s carrying all this weight. What do
you have in your bag anyway? How can such a small bag carry so much weight?”
Jimmy whined. “Well it’s not my fault. I’ve got a sprained wrist and the
physician said that I shouldn’t carry to much weight.” Replied Ruby half
serious, half jokingly. This continued for the whole trip. It suddenly started
to rain. “Oh no! Look, Jimmy, there’s an abandoned temple over there,
let’s take shelter there.” Without waiting for a reply, Ruby ran to the
temple leaving Jimmy with the luggage running after her.
When
they reached the temple, they realised that it wasn’t empty, but that Alec and
Vicki were there. “Xiao mei *little sis*. I’m so glad I found you. Who’s
that?” asked Ruby hugging Vicki at the same time. “Ge!” hollered Jimmy,
soaked to the bones. A;ec turned around surprised o find Jimmy soak and carrying
two bags. “Jie, did you make the poor guy carry your luggage for you?” asked
Vicki innocently. “Yes” answered Ruby sheepishly. “Good on you, you’re
finally learning how to loosen up.” Replied Vicki. Meanwhile, Alec was helping
Jimmy with the luggage. He whispered to jimmy “xiao di *little bro* you’re
always the ladies man…lol.” “Shut up ge. I didn’t want to take her
luggage. She just dumped it on me the minute we set out to find you guys.”
After Jimmy had said this, Alec started to cough. “What wrong ge?” “It’s
nothing, I just harmed a bit of my chi when I was helping Vicki.” Vicki
interrupted everyone’s conversation and announced that dinner was ready. After
dinner, they discussed what they were going to do the next. They had become
pretty good friends by the end of the night, so they decided to stay together
for a number of reasons.
1)
It was safer to travel in larger groups
2)
They had nothing better to do
3)
Vicki thought it’d be fun,
even though Ruby objected to the idea at first.
After
their discussions, they retired for the night.
***THE
NEXT DAY***
The
next day, the girls woke up first. Seeing that the guys still had not woken up,
they decided to play a trick on them. They sneaked outside and got some water
each. Then they quietly sneaked over to the Alec and Jimmy and poured the water
all over them. The boys woke up with a shock. They had no clue what had happened
and was wondering why they were wet. The girls were laughing. Secretly, Ruby
thought about how good the boys look, the way their clothes clung to their
muscular bodies. She then realised what she was thinking and blushed furiously.
Vicki, seeing that Ruby was blushing, decided to tease her. “Ruby, do you like
one of them?” Vicki asked. “Of course not. I like them as friends.” Lied
Ruby. “Then why are you blushing?” continued Vicki. The two then stated to
play fight outside, while the boys got dressed.
After
the boys got dressed, they went outside to look for the girls. Seeing that they
were practicing their kung fu, they decided to join. Soon the fight was between
Vick and Ruby against Jimmy and Alec. Both sides were strong. They decided that
they were equal and called it a tie. They gathered their stuff, put out the fire
and started on their way back to Beijing. Unknown to them, Alec didn’t really
want to go back. He didn’t say anything, but Jimmy understood. The girls were
oblivious to everything. They wlaked ahead gossiping and singing in their usual
way. The guys walked slower.
Jimmy:
“Ge, are you sure you wanna go?”
Alec:
“Not really. But…”
Jimmy
asked teasingly: “But what? You like one of these girls?”
Alec:
“Of course not” Pretended Alec. But in his heart, he knew it was true. Alec
changed the subject and started asking Jimmy. “What about you Jimmy? You’ve
been acting pretty nice to that girl Vicki.”
Jimmy:
“Is it really that obvious?”
Alec
laughs: “Yes!!! Like last night, you were doing favours for her left and
right.”
Jimmy
blushes: “Now your turn, which one do you like?”
Alec
replied: “I like kinda like that girl Ruby.” In his heart, Alec was lying to
himself. He didn’t like Ruby except for brotherly love. But he didn’t want
to hurt Jimmy’s feelings, as they were best friends. And Alec didn’t want a
girl to ruin their long friendship.
***RUBY
AND VICKI***
Ruby:
“I wonder what they’re talking about”
Vicki:
“hehehe….so which one do you like?”
Ruby
blushes deep red: “Do you have to ask that?”
Vicki:
“Look! You’re blushing, come on spit it out.”
Ruby:
“Alright! Alright! I’ll tell you, but you swear to keep it a secret? [Vicki
nods] ok, [Ruby takes a deep
breath] ikindalikejimmy.”
Vicki:
“What? Say that again”
Ruby:
“I…kinda…like…Jimmy.”
Vicki:
“Aha!!!! I knew it!”
Ruby:
“Shhh…do want the whole world to know?”
Alec:
“Know what?”
Vicki:
“Ruby li- [Ruby kicks Vicki in
the shin] Owwww!!!!
Ruby
smiles innocently.
Jimmy
and Alec look on with confused looks.
Ruby
asks: “So what were you guys talking about back there?”
Jimmy
gives Alec a don’t-you-dare look. Alec gets the hint and says: “We were
discussing what you girls were talking about.”
Vicki:
“I’m tired, let’s rest”
Ruby:
“Good idea Vic. There’s a brook over there. Let’s go get some water.”
[Without waiting for a reply, Ruby dragged Vicki off]
When
they reached the brook, 3 black men jumped them. They started fighting. Vicki
was executing kicks left and right. Ruby was also kept busy. She yelled out
“Alec! Jimmy! Help!!” Ruby drew out her sword. She sliced one of the guy’s
arm. But she got cut on the arm. At that time, Alec and Jimmy had arrived. Jimmy
went over to help Vicki and Alec went and helped Ruby. Jimmy attacked one of the
guys just as Vicki was becoming weak from excessive workout. She was still weak
from her attack last time. Alec on the other hand was giving Ruby a hand with
the guy she was dealing with. Alec drew out his sword and slashed the guy’s
neck. He died instantly. They then went over to help Jimmy and Vicki. When they
finished the other two guys off.
They
all sat down and attended to each other’s wounds. Vicki suddenly threw up
blood again. “Tien ah *Chinese version of oh my god* Vicki, are you
alright?” asked Ruby worriedly. “Yeah. I’m ok. I think I just got kicked
on my old wound again, nothing to bad. [Ruby doesn’t know what happened to
Vicki last time so Alec had to explain to her].
Ruby’s
cut arm wasn’t that bad. It was just awkward because the bandages didn’t
allow her much movement. Jimmy got kicked in the back but it was a light kick so
