Muffled In Ellipses

by Kali

Muffled in ellipses
She writes what she thinks is true
She adds too many exclamation points
Too many question marks, too.

She writes with what she thinks is her soul
With what she hopes is a heart
Stifling the inner editor
That tears her work apart.

She ignores the tiny voice
That tells her "No more dots!"
That tells her how and why
To cut out her favourite thoughts

The exasperated editor
Who says "Stop the press!"
Who says "This thing is awful--
--You can’t write any better, I guess."

She muffles the thought in ellipses
And writes what she hopes is good
Switching out of editor
And into writer mood.
