Freyr

Freyr is the twin brother of Freya, and while She was the warrior Goddess He was the God of Peace. His translated name means "Lord" or "God". He is the God of weather and fertility, and the believed progenitor of the Swedish royal family.

One day He sat upon Odin's throne at Hlidskialf, and spied the beautiful giantess Gerd. Falling madly in love with her, He sent his shield bearer Skirnir to win Her hand in marriage. Only by promising to give up His great magickal sword was Freyr able to win Her hand. Because He gave up His sword, Freyr is doomed to die by the fire giant Surt at Ragnarok.

Freyr also owns the great ship Skidbladnir, which can sail on land, sea or air, can fit all the Gods, and yet fold to fit into a pocket. His chariot is drawn by two boars, Gullinbursti and Slidrugtanni. The golden boar Gullinbursti was made by the dwarfs and He could ride it through the air. God of the sun and bountiful crops, He is called upon to grant a fertile marriage. He represents masculine lust, and is regarded as the most beautiful of the male Gods.

The deer, horse and boar are sacred to Him. As late as 1200c.e. there was a statue of Him at a temple in Uppsala in Sweden that was known for the size of its phallas.
