Hephaestus
Hephaestus is the lame God of the forge. This gentle God started His life when His mother, Hera, decided that She could create a child without Zeus' help. The end result was a being that Zeus cast off Mount Olympus in disgust, only to have Hephaestus survive. Forever lame and disfigured, Hephaestus works at His forge: created the lightning bolts for Zeus and creating wonderful and magickal items for the Gods to enjoy.
He was married to the beautiful Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, but She was unfaithful to Him. He took great pride in exposing Her affair with Ares, only to be denied justice when She declaired that this is what the Goddess of Love was supposed to do. His forges are supposedly located under the mountains/volcanos Etna and Vesuvious, and when the earth shakes, the locals say that He is hard at work creating new wonders.
Hephaestus is shown as a lame man with powerful arms and upper torso. He often has a hammer and anvil close by. Gold and silver are attributed to Him. The island of Lemnos is sacred to Him as well as blacksmiths and those of the forge.
