If God had intended Man to Smoke
He would have set him on Fire.
Isis
Daugher of Geb and Nut, Isis was born in the swamps of Egypt. Twin of Nephthys, sister of Set, and sister and wife of Osiris, Isis evolved from a modest Goddess to the most powerful Goddess of Egypt. Even Cleopatra (being a female pharoh) claimed to be Isis's reincarnation. Isis is credited with teaching women to grind corn, spin flax and weave cloth while teaching man how to heal and become accustomed with married life. She presides over motherhood, maritial devotions, healing of the sick, protector and guardian of the dead, and is believed to be the most powerful magician on Earth. She speaks all the words of power (Egyptions believed "how" the words were pronounced was as important as just "saying" the words), having tricked Ra into revealing His secret name. She created a poisonous snake which bit Ra's ankle, and fearing death, He told Isis His secret name. This allowed Her to perform all forms of magick.
While married to Osiris, She was responsible for bringing Him back from the dead when Set murdered Him. She found all the pieces of Osiris' body, and using Her consideral magick, She brought Him back to life. Now She presides with Him in the relm of the dead.
From Osiris, Isis concieved Horus. Hiding in the papyrus swamps at Khemmis, She gave birth. Because She protected Horus to His adulthood (and His being the first Pharoh of Egypt), She became known as the protector of the Pharohs.
Isis is often depicted in several different ways. In human form, She is often crowned with an empty throne (symbolizing Osiris death and Her rule) or with cow horns encircling a sun disk. Sometimes She is pictured as a kite over Osiris' mummified body, or is seated while suckling the infant Horus. The Lotus is sacred to Her, and Her symbols include the tat(?), knot or buckle, and the sustrum (a rattle). The star Sirius is named for Her, and Her latin epithat is "Stella Maris"--Star of the Sea.
