Be humble for you are made of Earth.
Be noble for you are made of Stars. - Serbian Proverb
Do Witches Pray?
Do Witches pray? Yes, we do. Of course, we put our own unique spin on the whole process and the names are changed for our own pantheon, but nonetheless, we do pray. What could these "prayers" possibly consist of since we pretty much believe we are the masters of our own fate and not some God in "heaven"? I look at prayers more of reminders to myself to stop and look around at the effect I have in my surroundings. If I am not happy, others may not be happy, and so maybe I should change something. Occasionally, our prayers may consist of things like "Goddess, give me the strength to not kill these stupid people", but things like that let us know we are too stressed to be useful to anyone, let alone ourselves.
While there is something refreshing and peaceful about speaking aloud favorite and cherished prayers, most prayers end up being voiceless and wordless. Looking at a gorgeous sunset needs no words other than a simple unspoken "thanks", but sometimes our hopes and dreams need to be spoken aloud. Not because we are "pious" or "faithful", but because we need to affirm to ourselves that we are worthy of these dreams and unspoken desires. Prayer becomes a ritual of itself, spoken or otherwise that gives us one more tool to touch that spark of Divinity we might not otherwise feel. It becomes cleansing and leaves us full of hope that all will become better.
And so...let us pray...
At Bedtime
Bright Goddess of the setting sun,
look over my family as I sleep.
In my dreams let me meet what is to come
and solve what I cannot solve awake.
Keep me safe and warm and
hopeful that tomorrow will be a day
of love and joy.
Blessed Be
In the Morning
Blessed Goddess
May my coffee be potant
May I smile at those I help
Let me be calm and centered
Help me to bite my tongue when necessary
Yet speak up when necessary
Please help me to manage my day
In Times of Stress
Great Horned God
Let me bend like the willow
Let me stand strong like the oak
Give me strength
To flip through the pages of my BOS faster...
