How can you say luck and chances are the same thing? Chance is the first step you take, luck is what comes afterwards. Amy Tan
Prophecies
Okay. It is one year from the turn of the century. The year 2000, and needless to say, the doom and gloomers are having a ball. Y2K. Armegeddon. AntiChrist. Geeze Louize! Oh, and let's not forget that Nostradomus fella. He predicted all this, you know. I have spoken to people who are so terrified of what is going to occur at the year 2000, that they can barely function. What I think is really ironic, is that the time predictions Nostradomus used were made before modern time adjustments. We should all have been screaming in the streets about 6 years ago...or 8 years...something like that. Everybody is sooooo uptight that I fear we really will have an Armegeddon because some wacko will decide to do a self-fullfilling prophesy, and kill us all. Or better yet, because everybody believes it, everybody will do the mass hysteria thing and create a world-wide panic. Now, don't get me wrong. I think the Y2K is a very real problem, and I want to know why all those braniacs couldn't figure out that the year 2000 was coming and compensate for it, but I don't think the world is going to come to an end. The sun will still come up, and that is really the most important thing. If all the world money vanishes into the depths of cyber hell, then we will just re-create it (it is all on paper anyway) and things will go on as usual. Now, I do acknowledge that the poorer countries will have the biggest problems, but why else do we have the United Nations? To see all the funny little hats?? All it will take is bringing everybody back up to speed, and we have the world economies again....but I digress.
With all the doom prophesies, I want to know about all the billions of false ones. Let's face it. Whenever a new important thing happens, people will have "dreams" about it...like the Titanic...and when something happens, the world becomes stunned that all these people predicted it. But what about all the other dreams in which nothing happened? There are how many people in the world? Billions? How many dreams EVERY NIGHT? What about all the ones who dream that nothing will happen. Are they prophets also? We are so terrified of the future that we would go to any lengths to find out what is going to happen. 99.99% of the people we go to who claim to see the future are frauds. But the other .01%? I acknowledge that there are a couple (a couple) of legitimate people who can "see" things, but I am such a skeptical person, ya know? For example. The Watchtower folks. They predicted the end of the world would occur in the 70's ('76?), and they washed their kids, combed their hair and put them to bed. The next morning? They were stunned! Nothin' happened. duh. Every millinium there is terror that the end of the world is coming. Historians have noted this phenomenon for the past 2000 years. And every millinium...nothing happens. Lots of hoopla...little hoop. But you gotta admit it is a money boom to all those false prophets! Now, another thing that bothers me...many of the ancient prophets claimed to see things that were beyond their comprehension. New technology. So they had to explain what they saw based on their current technology. Then, we interpret what they saw, and may get a different interpretation! What about mistakes? For all of Nostradomusus successess, how many failures? 4-to-1? or worse? I make it a point to take "prophesies" with a humongous grain of salt. I do watch the prophesis on TV (like the Learning Channel), but I don't take them as being given. Kinda like the movies...not the real world, but kinda close too. Like them slasher type movies.
Anyway, all I am trying to say is to not buy into all the millinium hype. That's all it is...hype. Go to the parties though...they should be a blast!!(DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!! EVER!!) Do not give your money to the organizations predicting the end of the world. If the end of the world is coming... why do they need money??? Use caution. Use good sense. And avoid all persons claiming to be the "AntiChrist" "Yellow People" or who believe that Elvis is still alive (after all...Elvis spells "Levis" as well as "Lives")
