Spell Outline
When you want to write your own spells you have do some preparations first:
Know the Basics
For goodness sake, please know which tools are what, how to ground and center, what spell components are, the difference between a sabbat or esbat, or a hundred other little myrid things involving what magick is and is not. If you do not even know what a bolline is or your chants are nothing more than silly lymricks, you are definitely not ready for spellwork.
Know the Intent or Purpose
Be realistic and keep your head straight. What is this spell for, money? Sex? Power? A new job? Know what you want to accomplish before you cast your circle. Otherwise it could fail, and in a big ugly way.
Know the Best Time to Work the Spell
This is not just about correspondence tables, this also involves if you are ready to do the spell. If you are sick, stressed, angry or depressed now is not the time for casting a spell. Know when to say when.
Know Correspondences
Correspondence tables are not perfect and not all are the same. However, they can help make a spell more effective when you combine all the possible elements necessary to make a spell work. Do not be afraid to pull in stones, symbols, herbs, flowers, feathers etc if you think it will help. Just make sure they are appropriate for the spell being cast.
Be Accountable
If the spell did not work, correct it and try again. If it backfired, fix it. If it caused damage, fix it and ask for forgiveness. Do not just cast a spell out into the world and think you are no longer responsible for it once it leaves your protected circle. It's Karma, baby!
Basic Ritual Outline
Ritual Preparation
Get all your stuff together so you will not have to leave your circle once the circle is cast. Make sure you have your candles, matches, paper, pens, ink, spell components, outline and intent, cakes, wine or beverage etc BEFORE you cast your circle. Each time you have to cut a doorway increases the chance your circle will weaken or fail.
Cleanse yourself and your magickal space
Take a bath/shower and prepare your space for working. Vacuum, dust, air freshen...whatever munane things need to be done, do them as well as clean the phychic and astral.
Cast the Circle
- Invocation of the Divine:
Be polite and respectful. After all, they are the guests of honour.
- Statement of purpose:
Be clear and concise. K.I.S.S is a great rule of thumb to follow.
- Magickal Working:
This is when you cast your actual spell. I suggest working it out on paper earlier in the day so you have a checklist for how you want it to go.
- Cakes and Wine:
This is thirsty work! It is also a drain on your emotional and physical strength. Cakes and wine can help you center your mind, refocus on the physical plane and let you celebrate getting it all done.
- Thanking the Divine:
You would want to be thanked for coming and observing, right? They love you, but do want to know They are appreciated.
Close the Circle
Yes, you must close your circle. No, you do not just wave your hand and say "be closed". You pulled up lots of energy to cast the circle and do workings, make sure all that energy is accounted for. Channel it into Mother Earth or the Universe, but do not leave it just laying around for someone else to stumble upon or clean up.
