Heath first got his start in the Globe Shakespeare Company in Perth, Australia. He had caught the acting bug from his older sister Kate, and went on to star in the title role of "Peter Pan."At Guilford Grammar School, he was interested in both Drama and Sports.He recieved a number of hockey awards and was captain of the drama team in his school.
He finished high school one year early and he and his best friend Trevor went on a road trip to Sydney in search of work in the movie industry.He got a part in the 1997 movie Blackrock and afterwards he played a gay bicyclist on a TV show called Sweat. "It was shit,that show-so fucking bad,"he says."I wanted to quit acting after I did that.I just had no idea what I was doing."
He had the lead role on a Xena:Warrior Princess type Fox show called Roar, which was cancelled because of low ratings.However,it got him an agent in America.While he auditioned for roles in the U.S.,he scored a part in an Australian Indie called Two Hands,which he followed with Ten Things I Hate About You.After Ten Things, numerous teen-movie scripts were shot his way, and he refused to follow the advice of his agent and audition for them. His next role came a year later in The Patriot, a Revolutionary War drama with fellow aussie Mel Gibson.
