Idolize: Hey Brian!!! How have you been lately?!
Brian:
I'm snowed in today, but otherwise things have been great
Idolize: Can you just give a quick rundown on the band and band history?
Brian: Sure. Tom is guitar/vocals, Jeff is guitar/vocals, Jim is drums, and I'm bass. Jim, Jeff, and myself were in another band for a few years and Jeff was also in a side project with Tom. The other band broke up and Jeff invited me and Jim to join his side project. We started in the summer of 2002, and since then we've been playing shows, recording, and doin a little bit of touring here and there
Idolize: I heard you guys are currently in the studio?!
Brian: Yeah, we just finished up some new demos with great producer named Matt Squire. We recorded three new songs that are currently on our purevolume page.
Idolize: Will there be a CD out?
Brian: We're not sure yet. A lot of ideas are getting tossed around right now. We paid for everything on the EP we have out right now, so we're trying to find someone to put out our next release. I'd love to have something new released this summer, whether it's a new EP or maybe a split with one or two other bands.
Idolize: Tell me more about the EP that's out.
Brian: Okay. Well, we recorded it last winter with Matt Squire and we had amazing time! He is one of the best producers in our opinion, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. We worked reallly hard and had alot of late nights trying to get stuff done, but in the end we enjoyed every minute of it and couldn't wait to come back. Paying for every aspect of the EP, from the recording to the artwork, left us broke but it was really worth it. We're very proud of it and even more proud of the new demos we just finished up. You can pick up the EP for only $3 at Smartpunk.com and at our shows.
Idolize: Let's talk shows!!! What's the best show you've ever played?
Brian: There's alot, it's hard to pick just one. The best crowd we ever had was when we played with The Early November last February. I think there were over 1,400 people there. We also did a sold out date on the Absolutepunk/Purevolume Tour this summer. Shows at VFW halls and small clubs are always fun too. We love rocking with Houston Calls, John Connor, Madison. They're all great bands and we always have a blast before, during, and after the show.
Idolize: Yeah, I would have to say that Krome show with The Early November, Halifax, Socratic and Hidden in Plainview was one of the best. But I will agree with you that the shows with Houston Calls are always fun! What bands have you been listening to lately?
Brian: I've been listening to newest Northstar record alot, The Postal Service, Hey Mercedes (RIP). I like what I've heard of the new Minus The Bear EP, haven't had a chance to really sit down and listen to it yet.
Idolize: So, do you guys have any plans for touring soon?
Brian: We hope to tour a lot this summer and atleast make it up and down the east coast. All of us love touring, so if the opportunites are there we're deifnitely going to take them.
Idolize: Any plans to play the Warped Tour in NJ?!
Brian: We'd love to! I don't think it's really up to us, but if we were asked then we'd surely say yes. It'd definitely be a blast, especially if we were to play in New Jersey!
Idolize: So what do you think about the music industry today?
Brian: Well I only see a little piece of it here in New Jersey, so I can't really make an accurate description of it. But from what I see and read about, it's getting better in some areas and worse in others. I don't see how Ashlee Simpson is still around, and a lot of other novelty acts. At the same time, I see a lot of unknown bands getting the attention they trulydeserve. But I guess it's always going to be like that. I also think people getting fined for downloading music is riduculous too.
Idolize: Where can people listen to Foster's music online?
Brian: http://www.purevolume.com/foster has our entire EP and new demos up for stream
Idolize: Is there anything you'd like to add or say before we wrap it up?
Brian: Thank you to everyone that has been supporting us from day one and continue to listen to our music, come to our shows, buy our stuff, and just overall hangout with us. We love all of you, and truly appreciate your support!! Also, go to Purevolume.com and listen to John Connor, Houston Calls, Madison, Luca Brasi, Chasing Monroe, and Maverick.
Idolize: Thanks Brian for the interview!!! Good luck with all the snow today!
Brian: No problem!! Thank you for having me!
