Woodgate
struggling for derby clash
Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson is sweating over the fitness of
Jonathan Woodgate ahead of the derby against Sunderland on Saturday.
Woodgate, a £9m capture from Leeds back in January, was forced off in
the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Monday with a hamstring injury.
He is also carrying a knee injury and Robson will make a late
decision on the defender as Newcastle look to get their Champions
League qualification quest back on track.
"Jonathan has a slight knee injury which we have been aware of for
the last two weeks," said Robson.
"He has been playing slightly hampered but at Villa he had the
beginning of a slight hamstring strain. Now it remains to be seen
whether he will be fit for Saturday."
However, Robson has admitted he is "pessimistic" about the chances of
French winger Laurent Robert recovering in time from his knee injury.
