Since Eric could not be in the room during my c-section, he got this picture of Grace as they were wheeling her up to the NICU
My amazing Grace was born via emergency c-section at 1:42am on Oct. 12, 2000. I call her my amazing Grace because she was the worst off of all three of my babies. She had a grade 4 bleed in her brain. For those of you who don’t know that is the highest level they give and the chance of recovery is zero. She faught like crazy to stay here with us. She was strong, stronger than I ever could have imagined a child of 1 pound could be.
Gracie was a mover and shaker from the first time I felt her. One day I had one of my many ultrasounds and on the screen I could see her flipping around and kicking Avery! I had to laugh, but I had a stern taking to her on the way home that day. Poor Avery had no where to go to get away from her. When I was in the hospital and the nurses would try to get her heartbeat every four hours, she would move back and forth so they couldn’t hear it. She was defenately girl and her Mommy's daughter all the way.
Grace was a perfect mix of both Eric and I, she looked like both of us. Oh she was beautiful. Her hair was sandy color and a little wirey like her Daddy’s I must say. She had long delicate fingers and toes, not sure where she got those from. She was my precious baby girl from beginning to end.
I was still in the hospital on Oct. 15, 2000 when we got the call to come say godbye to our second born and our precious daughter. My amazing Grace faught until the very end. So strong a desire to live. I held her as she took her last breath and went home to wait for us.
The nurses cleaned her up and dressed her in a little pink outfit and wrapped her in a pink blanket. We took her into a little room where we sat kissing her, holding her, memorizing her features and talking to her. Saying things parents say to their children they love so dearly. Like with Avery, I have a piece of my heart broken that only Gracie can fill when I get to hold her in my arms again.
