Stories--page 3

From Marlo Boggio, friend

I have many stories about Amanda, but out of all of them one has great meaning to me. One night in early September (99), I had been drinking and was pretty well gone. Amanda had stopped at my house and I was on my way to see a friend I was fighting with. Amanda wouldn't let me drive and took me there herself. While we were there Amanda was basically my babysitter because I was a mess. She couldn't even get me out of the house! Finally, she did and brought me home. The moral of my story is that one: Amanda saved my life by not letting me drive. A few days later I saw Amanda and she gave me advice about a problem I was dealing with. And you know what? She was right about everything she said. Three years ago Amanda gave me a Christmas card and in it she told me she would never abandon our friendship. And she never did. She always cheered me up when I was down. I will always cherish my friendship with Amanda.

One thing I'll always remember about Amanda for happened at Brian and Gina's wedding. I was sitting at the bar waiting to get a beer when I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder. I spun around in my chair to see Amanda standing there and she asked me if I was going to dance or not. I told her I was not a very good dancer and that I get nervous. She told me to put my beer down then pulled me out on the dance floor--it was a slow song, which made it a little easy on me. As the song went on Amanda kept telling me to relax. Finally she asked me why I was so nervous so I told her it was because I wanted to do something. I wanted to know if she would like to go out sometime--she looked at me and said, "Is that why you are nervous?" and I said yes. She said she would. Amanda said she would even teach me how to dance. I'll never forget the last song me and Amanda danced to. It was "BoardWalk Angel" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. It really surprised me when Amanda said she would go out with me. I didn't know what to say--I never had anyone say yes before. I told her it was just as a friend and she said she knew that. I'll always remember her for that and always love her as a friend. There will always be a special place in my heart for her.

From Tracy, sister

I have so many stories of Amanda, but one of my favorites is from the year we went on vacation together--just the 2 of us (1994). I had just bought my Camaro convertible and we had a blast just cruising with the top down listening to Cheap Trick. We spent some time with Grandpa Oakley--we had so much fun going to all of the buffets (where they all knew him well) and playing rummy. She claimed over and over to be the rummy champ. It was special because we really got to know Grandpa Oakley well for the first, and unfortunately, for the last time. We went and saw where my sorority was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas--Amanda just KNEW she would be a Chi-O too! We took pictures of each other and some video (no idea where that is!). Then we took off for Whiteman Air Force Base to see Butchie. It was a great bonding time for us, although at the time neither of us realized how special it really was.

From Corey Mecagni, family friend

Once you met Amanda she was the type of person you could never forget. All the things she did ad the way she was made her one in a million. She will never be forgotten. I have many memories of Amanda that I will never forget--from grade school through high school and into college. Her memory will live on.
