I have been listening to Merle since 1975 (the age of 2). The Hag was a mainstay at my house simply because my father was a huge fan and fellow musician. He went out and bought nearly every album of Merle's from the late 60's to the early 80's. My brother and I grew up listening to classics like "Totally Instrumental...With One Exception", "Branded Man" and "A Portrait Of Merle Haggard". Dad was already a picker in the local scene, so my brother and I would soon follow in our father's foot steps. We would eventually form our own band known locally as "The Cross Brothers Band". As you can see, I have my music advertised here as well. Do I claim to be a pro? Not in the least. I'm a drummer by nature so you may see reviews where I emphasize on the percussion from time to time. Does that make me an expert? Not at all. The above is the musician side of me. Now I'll delve into the collector side: Back in the late 90's and early 2000's, the grand age of eBay, I would collect everything Merle that I could get my hands on. Many times I would receive my 'new' album thinking it would consist of material by Merle that I hadn't heard before. Many times I would play the CD, cassette or LP only to find the tracks were the same regurgitated top 40 Haggard songs that I already had. This was the reason I started this website. It started off simply as a word document and has grown to what you're viewing now. I've spent 1,000's of hours collecting, organizing and creating this site. I've spent countless dollars feeding my obsession...with that said, I feel I have the right to be critical of the music when necessary.
