"Okie From Muskogee" would produce one #1 hit while introducing the world to the timeless classic "White Line Fever". The only hiccup here is Gene Price's vocals on "In The Arms Of Love". I'm guessing this was an executive decision by Capitol Records© trying to promote their up and coming star? Prior to this recording The Strangers lineup featured Jerry Ward on bass guitar. Ward would be replaced by Dennis Hromek in 1970, so I'm assuming Gene Price was an interim bass player. To my knowledge he doesn't appear on any other recording, studio or live, or write any songs with Merle and/or The Strangers. "Okie From Muskogee" was a must have in 1969, and still is to this day! The opinions above are solely those of Sound_man73. If you're like me you'll collect the music either way :) Be sure to check out Merle Haggard's Official Site! |
