Merle and The Strangers totally rewrite the rules for what a Country Music album should look like and sound like with this release. The theme of "Someday" is that of old times and upbringing with an undeniable Bakersfield flavor. "California Cottonfields", written by Dallas Frazier and Earl Montgomery, fits in perfectly with Merle's childhood of leaving the dust bowl of Oklahoma for the dreams of California. It is one of the finest songs I've ever heard! Merle's own "Tulare Dust" speaks of a longing for a better life in the years after The Great Depression. Merle captures the sentiment of the times perfectly with this track. Let's not forget the Merle's 11th #1 hit "Carolyn" written by Tommy Collins originates from this album. Get this recording any way you can, put it on repeat and be prepared to be taken back! The opinions above are solely those of Sound_man73. If you're like me you'll collect the music either way :) Be sure to check out Merle Haggard's Official Site! |
