Both points are extremely valid, but I'm afraid they aren't mutually exclusive in this case. There are some real gems here such as Mark Yeary's "I Won't Give Up My Train", a song that Merle would record at least twice more on future albums. Also, Ronnie Reno's "Union Station" could have been a real classic if not released on a theme based or 'tribute' album that didn't get much airplay. Both of the above mentioned tracks deserved better fates in my opinion. At any rate the recording is mastered nicely but I rarely listen to this one due to it's overall feeling. The opinions above are solely those of Sound_man73. If you're like me you'll collect the music either way :) Be sure to check out Merle Haggard's Official Site! |
