Merle was at the pinnacle of his career during this swapping of labels. I believe all of the tracks included here were from other studio sessions with the exception of the title track. Sadly there were at least 3 tracks on this album that, if marketed properly, could have been #1 hits. "The Running Kind", "I'm A White Boy" and the title track were superb songs that didn't get much play. Also we have 2 more tracks ("Blues For Dixie" and "Moanin' The Blues") from the scrapped 1973 studio album "I Love Dixie Blues" making an appearance here. I can certainly hear the difference in Merle's voice from early 1973 to 1977. Even with all the above said this is a great album! Be sure to check out Merle Haggard's Official Site! |
