This one was a real stinker. It definitely has that 'let's make a Christmas album because we haven't in a while" feeling.
"Goin' Home For Christmas" is filled with xylophones, orchestral overdubs and choirs that never suited Merle well. However Merle's voice is superb throughout! I think the reason this one falls flat is for the fact that Merle's persona was that of a bad-ass outlaw at the time of this release. It would be the same as Bing Crosby releasing a Heavy Metal album :)
