This album has an overall somber feeling giving the listener a very relaxing adventure into Merle's more personal side. Haggard penned 7 of the 10 tracks here making this one of his most 'involved' projects of the 80's.
"That's The Way Love Goes" written by Lefty Frizzell & Sanger D. Shafer would soon be a signature song for Merle in his live performances. Merle actually recorded this song in 1973, but it wasn't released until The Bear Family's© 2007 box set entitled "Hag: The Studio Recordings 1969-76". I for one am glad Merle waited until his voice matured to release his version of Lefty's classic. The recording from 1973 sounds as if Merle's impersonating Frizzell perhaps for a scrapped 'tribute' project?
Every track here compliments the other from beginning to end. Here's another one you can place on repeat and go about your day.
