A small wafting breeze floated by, making the trees rustle as it brushed by. A small girl was sitting beside the small pond that sat at the bottom of a small slope. Her auburn hair, flowing in the passing breeze, and brushing over her golden eyes. Her eyes were shaped in the form of a small cry and stared meekly at the miniature ripples ensuing the insignificant pond. In the pond mirrored her image of a small, lithe figure covered in a big cape-like article that was slung around her shoulders and connected by a small broach.
”I wonder how everyone is doing back home...I wonder how long until they find me...” whispered the girl as she hugged the cape closer to her so she could escape the increasing frigidity. “I wonder how long until I have to go back...”
Crack, Rustle, Crunch
”ah,” gasped the small girl as she turned around towards the noise, her eyes wide in fear. She heard the rustling of footsteps crushing leaves and blades of grass on their way towards her.
”Is anyone there? Hello? This is private property! No one is allowed here without my permission!” boomed a soft voice of what seemed to be a young man. “Hello? Is there someone here?”
As the terrified girl tried to make her way across the dew moistened grass she slipped and fell, letting go of a high-pitched squeak.
”Hello?” asked the voice once again as he made his way to the dark figure sprawled out at the bottom of the tiny slope. Once he reached his destination he realized that it was a young girl that was covered by a momentous cape. “Are you alright? Why haven’t you gone home? Why are you here?”
“I-i..”stuttered the girl as she started to right herself.
“Here, let me help you” said the young man as he put his hands on the girls waist to lift her up. [not in a perverted way!]
“Ah-“ stammered the girl as she jerked away from the young man’s help and lurched forward, away from the young man.
“What’s the matter? I wasn’t going to hurt you.” rambled the young man in an apologetic way. The small girl just looked at him from where she sat, a small tint of fear still in her eyes. In seconds the girl had stood up and started running away, the young man running after wondering why she was running.
“G-go away!” yelled the girl in short bursts as she kept running, her cape flapping behind her.
“You have no where to go! Don’t you know what happens to stray girls that wander in the street after sundown?” remarked the young man; as if trying to tell her that he was worried that she would get hurt if she didn’t find somewhere to stay.
”An-and..what if...what if you are one of those men you talk of? What then?” puffed the girl as she kept running, trying to ignore the numbness that was encircling her face.
“I wont hurt you, I just want to help you get back home.” replied the young man honestly.
“...home...home...home..” muttered the girl in increasing volume. “No!” screamed the girl as she collapsed on the hard ground, her face buried in her knees. “Not home....not home...”
“Why don’t you just stay with me and my grandmother,..you don’t need to go home.” said the young man, trying to calm the frantic girl.
“...not home...not.....home..” whispered the girl as she fainted, drifting away from reality...
