Darren Naud and Michael Hiskey created
DMD SYSTEMS with the specific task of developing novel indoor pyrotechnics. While
the industry of indoor pyrotechnics is relatively recent, their manufacture
is predominately based on traditional methods that have been with us for
hundreds of years. Unfortunately,
while these methods are quite suitable for outdoor pyrotechnics, where smoke
and fallout is of less concern, they are not so suitable for the indoor
environment. A new standard of
low-smoke output and beautiful colors had to be reached if indoor
pyrotechnics were to become a class unto itself. In order to meet these higher standards,
Michael and Darren invented a new system of pyrotechnic formulations and
manufacturing processes. Once you have
seen Angelfire® products, you will know that Michael
and Darren had indoor pyrotechnics in mind. Darren Naud obtained
his Ph.D. in Explosives Chemistry from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and
Technology (NMIMT) in 1992. For the
last seven years, Darren has been involved in the synthesis of novel
energetic materials for the Department of Energy. Before that, Darren was a university
professor of chemistry for four years.
Michael Hiskey also
obtained his Ph.D. in Explosives Chemistry from NMIMT in 1990, and has since
then worked for the Department of Energy.
Michael specialized in the synthesis and characterization of
high-nitrogen energetic materials for gas generators, explosives,
pyrotechnics and propellants. |
