MAN OVER MOOMBA
DW -- In Paris, Man Ray has long been the boite of choice for the beau
monde: Over the years, Donatella Versace has celebrated the success of
her collections at the hot spot; Madonna has carved heel marks into its
dance floor, and Naomi Campbell has all but been a tenant. Now the club
is opening a New York outpost, lending lower Chelsea a does of cool cachet—but
don’t confuse it with the defunct eatery of the same name that was
once on Eighth Avenue. You will be able to eat at the new Man Ray, though.
The restaurant’s creators, Carlos Almada and Thierry Klemeiuk, are
planning a French-Asian menu, which should fit in nicely with the club’s
waterfall, antique wood bars, and French lounge music. You might have
trouble securing one of the overstuffed chairs, however. First dibs go
to the investors: Sean Penn, Harvey Weinstein, Johnny Depp, Mick Hucknell,
and John Malkovich.
