Chicane
|
The last time I saw Chicane was on Tuesday evening as a group of us climbed the hills of Makara for training. As Tiffany pulled me up the hill, I remember thinking what a good girl Chicane was, trotting along so quietly by Lesley’s side. Little did any of us suspect that her body was then being ravaged by poison.
I didn’t get to see Chicane train that day - we were split into separate groups – but I have no doubts that she gave of her best as she always did.
Chicane was Lesley’s dog and no-one will miss her more than Lesley. But Chicane was also one of our team and she found her way into the hearts of all of us. Her quiet presence, her sweet nature, and her love of playing with the pack, especially her ‘nieces’ Cat and Mia, are things I will remember fondly.
Chicane with Mia and Cat.
Sometimes it was hard to remember how young Chicane was because she showed amazing maturity and willingness to work. I would often exhort Tiffany to follow Chicane’s example. Alas, to no avail.
Chicane’s career as a search dog has come sharply and tragically to an end. The danger of baiting has been made all too horribly apparent to all of us. But the memories Chicane has left us will long remain.
Sleep well sweet Chiccy.
Send your condolences to Lesley
