Heretic (Biographies & Credits)

Niki McCretton (Performer, Co-Creator)

Niki began her professional training in physical theatre at Fooltime, Britain's first circus school, and went on to specialise in trapeze in Paris, France. In 1992, she was a founder of Shiftwork Physical Theatre Company in Scotland which achieved acclaim for its highly visual work, touring the United Kingdom and to southern Africa. In the late 1990s, she studied contemporary dance at Coventry University in Coventry, Warwickshire, U.K. Her first solo project, Worm-Hole, received a Five-Star Rating at the 2001 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland and toured to sell-out fringe-festival audiences in North America during the summer of 2002, receiving the award for Best Physical Theatre Production at the Victoria Fringe Festival in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Heretic is Niki's third solo show funded by Arts Council England. In early 2003, she was commissioned by the Prague Fringe Festival in Prague, The Czech Republic to create a physical-theatre show for children - Throw Me A Bone.

Shermaine Slocombe (Visual Concept)

Her work suggests a transformation of people and landscape which stem from the exploration of the body, its impulse to move and as an exposed surface for inscribed events. Internationally as artist-in-residence, Shermaine has collaborated with Théâtre Itinérant de la Cité in Meaux, France (east of Paris), developing new contexts including a film entitled "Utilises les Sens" and co-choreographing "l'Epopee de Gilgamesh". She recently worked with the Notting Hill Carnival, leading the production of the "Masquerade Gala" at the Royal Opera House. In 2001, Shermaine received her Masters in Fine Art in Context at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.
