Drama, Monologue, Humour & Dance
INTRODUCTION --- Born in Germany of British parentage, Niki McCretton moved at the age of seven to the United Kingdom where she continues to reside and work in South West England. She began her professional training in Physical Theatre at Fool Time, Britain's first school for circus arts, and went on to specialise in trapeze in Paris, France. In 1992, she was a founder of Shiftwork Physical Theatre Company in Scotland which achieved acclaim for its highly visual work, touring the United Kingdom and to southern Africa. In the late 1990s, she studied Contemporary Dance at Coventry University in Coventry, Warwickshire, England.
An experienced teacher known for her work facilitating others to dance and for creating works with all ages, Niki created five dance works for Bridgwater Arts Centre with the staff of five local businesses in Bridgwater, Somerset, U.K. in conjunction with The Year Of The Artist in 2000-01. Called the Bridgwater Dance Challenge, the project culminated in the performance of the pieces in the five workplaces and included architects, builders, lawyers and librarians.
At the end of February 2006, Niki completed an 18-month term as Associate Artist for Somerset County as appointed by Dance South West (U.K. regional dance agency for South West England) while based at The Merlin Theatre in Frome, Somerset with whom she is currently an Affiliated Artist. Effective 23 January 2006, Niki was appointed Associate Artist at The Lighthouse (Centre for the Arts) in Poole, Dorset, U.K. Her appointment was renewed for 2007.
