Basic Trigonometric Graphs

Explore the graphs of basic trigonometric functions!

Scope and Sequence

Eleventh Grade: Integrated
Patterns and relationships #3: Use a graphing calculator or computer to generate graphs.
Patterns and Relationships #1: Explore periodic real-world phenomena using the sine and cosine functions.

Find a website that can graph the basic trigonometric functions.

a.) y = sin(x) and y = -sin(x)

b.) y = cos(x) and y = -cos(x)

c.) y = tan(x) and y = -tan(x)

For each pair of functions:

1.) Draw a scaled version of the graphs. USE GRAPH PAPER!

2.) List the domain and range of each function.

3.) Compare and contrast each set of functions.

In order to get full credit for this mini - assignment!

You must submit a scaled drawing of each graph.

You must include the domain and range for each function.

You should have 3 sentences comparing and contrasting each set of graphs for a total of 12 sentences. Each part is seperate. For example, Part a will show both graphs [y = sin(x) and y = -sin(x)] and will have 3 sentences comparing and contrasting these two graphs to each other.

Please note that these graphs are reflections of each other. Define a reflection across the x - axis!

*You must include the websites that you used to generate the graphs!
