Arnold Blumenfeld

While attending Weequahic, I resided at Goldsmith Ave.
My current marital status is divorced.
I currently reside in Valencia, Ca.
I have two children: Howard 23 and Alexis 18
Howard graduated from U.C. San Diego in 1998 with a B.A, in Mathematics. He is currently completing an M.S. in mathematics at San Diego State University where he also teaches mathematics courses to premed and business majors. He is also a mathematics instructor at South Western City College.
My daughter, Alexis recently graduated from Saugus High School and is currently attending College of the Canyons in Valencia Ca. where she is studying to become an elementary school teacher.

After graduating from Weequahic, I attended Brooklyn College of Pharmacy for one year before realizing that my true interest was in psychology. I transferred to Bloomfield College where I earned a B.A. in psychology in 1968. Shortly after graduation, I lost my student deferment and was reclassified 1A. I was fortunate enough to get into the Army reserves where I completed my 6-year military obligation and at the same time worked as a parole officer for the New Jersey Bureau of Parole and later as a social worker for Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. During this period of time I also completed an M.A. in General Experimental Psychology Fairleigh Dickinson University.

I subsequently completed a post Masters Clinical Psychology internship at the Youth development clinic and the adult outpatient department of New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. I worked for the next two years as a Masters level psychologist for this clinic and did psychological consulting for Rahway State Prison Sex Offender program. During the mid 1970's, I was enrolled in doctoral studies at Yeshiva University in New York. My then girlfriend and now ex-wife and I eventually relocated to Southern California where I completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Alliant International University/California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego in 1979. Since that time I have worked for both Los Angeles County Departments of Mental Health and Health Services in various psychological capacities.

From 1985 to present, I’ve held the position of director of psychological services for Olive View/UCLA Medical Center. I also hold an appointment as assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA medical school. I maintain a part time private practice of clinical psychology in Newhall, Ca.

Over the years , I have developed a growing interest in the medical and biological aspects of psychopathology, more specifically the involvement of clinical psychologists in psychopharmacology. This interest resulted in my earning a postdoctoral M.S. in Clinical Psychopharmacology and completing a one-year clinical preceptorship.

The happiest days of my life were when my two children were born. I have had the privilege of single handily raising my two children who I am most proud of.

In regard to my current and future plans, I plan of partially retiring in the next three years with increased time devoted to travel and leisure time activities.
