Lorrie Axelrad Cohen

Now that she’s all grown up, she’s no longer Lorraine Axelrad. She’s now Lorrie Cohen. That’s her professional name. No, not show business. “House showing” business. Lorrie is one of New Jersey’s premier real estate agents, working as an independent agent for Re/Max Llewellyn Realtors in West Orange, New Jersey. She specializes in showing “preferred properties” (fancy word for expensive) in Essex, Morris and Union counties.

A recent article about Lorrie stated, “She is committed to providing the highest level of professional and caring service to both buyers and sellers.”

Our Ms. Cohen has completed special real estate courses such as Real Estate Practice, Economics, Financing, Property Management, Legal Aspects, Real Estate Appraisals, Real Estate Investment, Taxation and Creative Financing. In 2000, she received the prestigious OEA Award from the North Central Jersey Association of Realtors for continued ongoing education in the Real Estate industry and in 2003, she was nominated Realtor of the Year..

Proof of her pre-eminence? She’s a member of the National Association of Realtors, the North Central Jersey Association of Realtors and the Garden State Multiple Listing Service. Lorrie has repeatedly been the recipient of the coveted New Jersey Association of Realtors Million Dollar Sales Club Award and the New Jersey Association of Realtors Circle of Excellence Sales Award. She is a member of the North Central Association of Realtors Quarter Century Club and has achieved lifetime membership in the Distinguished Sales Club, as well as being named to The Re/Max Platinum Club and was the recipient of numerous Top Producer Awards breaking sales and listing records in her office, year after year. Lorrie is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Association of Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills and has served on numerous township committees in Livingston as well as being on the Admission Committee of Newark Academy. Wheew!

After graduating from Weequahic, Lorrie attended Glassboro State College now known as Rowan University and finished her undergraduate education at Newark State College, presently known as Kean University, with a teaching degree. She devoted 25 years of her life to the Newark School System teaching English As A Second Language while earning dual Masters degrees from William Paterson College in Elementary Education and Community Affairs.

Lorrie supplemented her teaching salary by serving as a part time real estate agent. She found teaching to be very rewarding, but ultimately recognized her prowess as a real estate agent. “I have a knack for sensing what people are looking for in a house and show them only what I feel they want to see” she explains. “I don’t believe in wearing people down by showing them dozens of homes they’re not interested in.” Her clients must appreciate her philosophy as Lorrie’s business is based entirely on referrals.

Not surprisingly, however, Lorrie names her daughter, Jamie, as her proudest achievement. Jamie has recently graduated from Newark Academy and will be attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in September, on her way to a career in medicine. Jamie played varsity soccer and softball at Newark Academy and has been written up in numerous newspapers as well as having received many accolades, proclamations and citations from Governor McGreevey as well as Senators Lautenberg and Corzine and local notables for creating and developing “The Roosevelt Project”, a charity based organization bringing cheer and joy to less privileged children in Newark..

Lorrie is practically in daily contact with Diane Belf, Marilyn Feller and Ron Sharpe as well as numerous others she graduated with.

Married to Howard Cohen for longer than she'd care to remember, Lorrie considers him her best friend. He is in the Import/Export business and travels the world in search of products for sale on QVC and the Home Shopping Network. Lorrie continues to join him in order to lend her considered opinion. Together, they’ve traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Beijing, Korea, Israel, Jordan, Portugal, Spain, England, Switzerland, Germany, Brazil, Paris, London, and numerous other destination she’s unable to recall off hand. Along with travel, Lorrie enjoys golf, tennis and Broadway shows.

Her long term plans? No, she’s not yet thinking about retirement yet, but does hope to lower her golf handicap.
