Game Review
Led by Senior Nate Glass' double double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, HCS beat a tenacious Joshua Springs Lightning in Yucca Valley 75-64. Three other Patriots were in double figures: Preston Lamarca with 11, Jonny Barton with 10 and Mike Petersen with 15. HCS jumped out early and got a great first half lead of 43-26 which allowed them to survive Joshua Spring's second half attempt (38-32) to pull out the win. Sophmore Mike Maerzluft played point much of the night and did an extremely creditable job getting 6 rebounds and 6 assists and causing Joshua Springs some matchup nightmares.

HCS is on a three game winning streak and has been averaging 74 points a game the last three games. They shot 67% from the charity line, their 7th best of the season. They had 30 rebounds, better than they have been doing although not sufficient to beat Antelope valley Christian nor Apple Valley Christian nor playoff teams. But most importantly they seemed to play more like a team than they have in recent weeks. Penetration in the key by the opponent continues to be an issue for the Patriots. What saved the Patriots against Joshua Springs was that the Lightning could not finish on their penetration of the key to get the points. Joshua Springs drops to 0-2 while HCS is now 3-0 in Agape play.

Game Preview
Hesperia Christian visits the Thunderdome to play Joshua Springs in Agape action. Joshua Springs is presently 4-8. HCS beat the Lightning twice last season 68-43 at home and 76-52 in Yucca Valley. The Patriots last lost to Joshua Springs in January 2002 in a 64-62 OT game at the Thunderdome. Joshua Springs is presently without the services of their star Anthony Virga who broke his hand a week ago. HCS will still have to defend the Lightning top scorers, Joe Virga and Thomas Higgins. Further they need to box McClay out to avoid him having a great rebounding night.

HCS will have to play solid basketball to get past Joshua Springs. Again they will have to jump out to an early first quarter lead and maintain it throughout the game. It means making free throws (an HCS weakness), getting over 38 rebounds as a team and playing strong defense against Joshua Springs. HCS presently has as many losses as they had all last season (8) and need four more wins to make CIF Southern Section playoffs.

Joshua Springs Lightning.
