HCS still had a -1 assist to turnover ratio with 14 turnovers and 13 assists. Free throw shooting is still not yet at playoff standards with the Patriots shooting a miserable 53%. Exceptions were Maerzluft (2-2), Martinson (2-2) and Howard (3-4). Three point shooting improved but that was because HCS only took 16 three pointers and made four of them. HCS' second quarter was outstanding as they won it 22-9, which established Patriot dominance for the game. HCS also dominated the boards because of the efforts of Petersen with seven rebounds and Jonny Barton who had nine rebounds.
HCS is now 5-4 and goes on Christmas break until next week when they open against Marin Academy from Northern California in the Valley Christian Holiday Tournament.
Hesperia Christian is coming off a 2 game losing streak. These losses are against a Div I and Div II team. This game gives the Patriots a chance to get tuned up prior to entering the always tough Valley Christian Holiday Tournament next week. There is a lot to work on like free throw shooting (only Maerzluft and Ellis can shoot them), three point shooting (only Martinson makes them) and press break. HCS' average score per game has dropped to its lowest level since 1999 at 56 PPG. Hesperia Christian is presently 4-4.
