Game Review
Recovering from a loss to Nipomo several hours earlier, HCS came out and took control early on against Kern Valley, beating them 64-54. The Patriots were led by senior Zach Howard who had 18 points and shot an amazing 57% from the three point line. Senior Mike Petersen and junior Mike Maerzluft also played well getting 11 and 12 points respectively. Petersen and senior Billy Hague each had 6 rebounds in the winning effort. HCS as a team shot a very respectable 75% from the charity line.

Again some HCS flaws appeared. For at least the last seven years, the Patriots fail to put teams away that they are superior to. This was the case again today. Despite taking a 12-6 first quarter lead, they allowed the Broncos back into the game in the second quarter losing 18-10. It was only by their strong third quarter showing of 25-15 that they were able to beat Kern Valley. Turnover to assist ratio was better than normal but still miserable at 20-14. Unless this team can learn to stop turnovers, they are in for a short playoff period. It simply requires quicker, harder passes and good vision to stop turn overs, neither talent that HCS has shown a proclivity for this season. Rebounding was alright at 29 rebounds but should have been better with HCS' height advantage.

Now HCS is 7-5 and will meet Providence of Burbank tomorrow for fourth place.

Game Preview
Hesperia Christian plays its third game of the tourney and second of the day against Kern Valley. Kern Valley beat VCA in its opener but lost to King's Christian in the second round. Kern Valley is presently 4-4. HCS is coming off a tough loss to Nipomo and now must bounce back in this second game within 3 hours. This is the third meeting between Kern Valley and HCS and HCS is 2-0.

In all four years of the VCA tourney HCS has won two games and lost two games each tournament. During this period HCS has played schools like Buckley twice, Brethren Christian, St Lawrence Academy (twice) and Grace Brethren.
