Game Review
In a match never in question, Hesperia Christian soundly defeated Joshua Springs 74-52 in Hesperia. The Patriots were led by Zach Howard with his 18 points and Mike Petersen with his 17 points and eight rebounds. HCS jumped out in front midway thru the first quarter and led 35-23 at the half. The icing on the cake was a very sharp 24-14 third quarter by the Patriots. Stealing and rebounding were some of the keywords to victory in this game. HCS got 43 rebounds and stole the ball 24 times. Bill Hague, the third best thief in Socal had 4 steals while both Jordan Vargas and Zach Howard had five steals. Josh Ellis had his career high of 8 points and Jordan Vargas got 6 rebounds.

HCS was not able to contain Joshua Springs Thomas Higgins who got 17 points.Turnover to assist ratio was typically bad with a 20-13 ratio. The Patriots shot 63% from the charity line this evening. The biggest disappointment of the evening was the performance by the second team minus Ellis. As the season progresses, they will get more and more playing time. Tonight they just did not produce. To go far in playoffs, they must improve. Aside from Lamarca and Ellis, none of the second team even made their averages.

But it was a win and now HCS is 3-0 in Agape play and now must prepare for their arch rival, Apple Valley Christian on Friday.

Game Preview
Hesperia Christian has it 2006 Agape home opener against Joshua Springs. Joshua Springs is presently 2-0 in Agape and 7-7 overall. They have done better this season than many expected. The only two common opponents they have with HCS is Antelope Valley Christian who they beat last Friday night 54-36 and California Lutheran who they lost to 60-56. Joshua Springs worst loss this season is to Calvary Chapel Moreno Valley with a 86-29 loss. Both teams are coming into this game with two game winning streaks.

The Lightning has two big scorers in Thomas Higgins with a 13 PPG and Mike Ray with a 12 PPG. They are a strong rebounding team (39 RPG) with four players averaging 7-8 rebounds a game. They like to dominate the defensive boards. They can be foul prone as each starter gets about three fouls per game. (Hint to HCS free throw shooters!) Joshua Springs is scoring about 50 points per game right now.

Hesperia Christian won the first match last year against Joshua Springs 75-64 which was in the Thunder dome. The last time the Patriots lost to the Lightning was in January 2002 in an exciting 64-62 OT match in Yucca Valley.

HCS will have a good test of their ability to rebound against a strong rebounding team. Mike Petersen will not be able to do it alone and will need help from Jonny Barton, Mike Maerzluft and Jordan Martinson. This especially true on our offensive boards. Joshua Springs likes to see opponents only get one shot each time down. HCS will have to make free throws this game in order to win. And HCS will need to play defense as they did in the fourth quarter against Bethel Christian. HCS is now averaging about 55 points per game. The Patriots should be about a four point favorite in tonight's game.
