Family Tree Book These Roots Go Deeper Than The Birth's Surface This book is very special to me because I created it as a visual depiction of my crazy family structure. I was born into a web of three families that are now only connected because I was born. "I am scaling the center line, this middle link, that binds with a love far stronger than what has never held my parents together." The book has a short poetic section in the center which opens into a longer version of the story of my family. There are several photos of each of my parents and siblings, separated into their respective families. Next to each parent are my favorite memories and stories that they have told me. Next to each sibling is my favorite memory of them. This book is basically constructed like a case-bound codex, but it contains several different sizes of accordions that all fit folded up inside the 5x9" book. When the book is fully open it measures over 3 1/2' long. All of the text in the book was printed with a photocopy transfer method using CitreStrip paint remover. The photos were scanned and printed using Epson archival quality inks. This book was originally created as one of an edition of 10, however, only 5 books were created before the rest of the materials were lost in a fire. All 5 surviving books are spread out amongst my family members, and are therefore not for sale.

Mother Book Series This is a series of three books that I created after my mom passed away in September of 2002. All three books are created using bookform styles that I have modifiedto make my own, and the third book, Oh My Mama Lovelyis a Quad-Lotus book; a design that I created myself.
Dreams Accordion I Came From Your Dreams, I Became Your Dreams, I Regained My Dreams When You Died This book is one of a three-part series I created about my mother after she passed away. The lighter cream-colored paper is handmade by me out of daylily stems and leaves. The first picture is of the general structureof the book, accordion style with removable gold-tipped pages. The second picture is of the inside structure of the book, highlighting the tiny removable pages. The third picture is a close-up of the text that runs along the inside length of the book. The fourth picture is of all of the removable pages out and opened up. The fifth through the tenth pictures are close-up shots of the individual pages. The last picture is of the detailing on the back of the book. This book is 3" tall and 9" long when fully stretched out. This book is a one-of-a-kind edition and is not for sale.

Quad-Lotus Book Oh My Mama Lovely This book is the third book in my "Mother Book Series". This book's general structure is composed of four lotus-style (diamond shaped) folded signatures attached within one another.(see picture 3). Once the top two lotus pages are opened and read the book is to be flipped upsidedown and there are two more lotus pages attached underneath. The book comes in a handmade envelope, made with the same paper as the book (see pictures 1 & 2). The main idea of this book is a four part dialogue between my mother and me. I wanted to illustrate that although she's gone, I can "still feel her bloom" and I can tell that she "still holds me strong." (see pictures 6 & 9) When it is fully closed, the book measures 3x3" and is approx. 1/2" thick. When the book is fully open, it measures over 12" long and 6" wide. This book is also one-of-a-kind edition and is not for sale.

Mother & Daughter Birth Book She Has Been Folded Into My Life Since I Unfolded From Hers This is the second book in my "Mother Book Series". The idea behind this book is that my mother was only one single life before she got pregnant with me, then while she was pregnant we were two lives living in one. Once I was born, we were two separate lives, that both emerged from one. Then when she died, I felt her light enter my heart and I now know what it is like to have two lives in one body. This book has three sections linked together with copper wire ribbon. The top section is the "Mother" section. It has a photo of my mother printed in black and white underneath a photo of myself in the same pose printed on vellum (to make it transparent). The middle section represents the mother and daughter as one during pregnancy and the section opens up in a similar way to a woman's legs while giving birth. (See photos 8 and 9) The bottom section is the "Daughter" section. It has a photo of myself printed in black and white underneath the photo of my mother in the same pose printed on vellum. I chose to use the photos printed on vellum specifically because I wanted to create a sense of inheritance (because my mom and I did look so similar) but I also
wanted to create the feeling of spirits overlapping, mine onto hers before I was born and hers over mine when she died. The book folds up into a 3x3" square that is approximately 1" thick. The book opens up to be approximately 10" long. This is also a one-of-a-kind edition and is not for sale.
