Harry Houdini
Well Harry Houdini was a great entertainer, an escape artist, the best in his day. He cold take any lock and find a way to open it, or any rope and find away to free himself from it. He was the best at what he did, escape. Erich Weiss was born March 24th 1874 in the town of Budapest, Hungry. In his early teens he idolized the famous French magician Robert Houdin and he decided he wanted to be just like him so he took his last name- Houdin and added an i to it because in French when you add an i to a word it means like, so he was like Houdin, he was the great Harry Houdini. Houdini spent the beginning years of his life, up into his late twenties in poverty. He could not get any recognition in America so he went to England with his wife Beatrice Houdini. Houdini became very famous their and his fame spread around the world to the U.S.A. Houdini became one of the top paid performers in the world. In 1926 Houdini made one of his first and only mistakes and let an artist come to his dressing room after one of his performances. He was going to draw a portrait of Houdini. The young artist brought along a few of his friends, one of them asked Houdini if he could hit him and then he punched Houdini in the stomach. Houdini was well known for being able to withstand pain. He would tighten his stomach muscles and let people hit him. This time though he was not able to tighten them fast enough because he was unprepared, and the blow to the stomach reputed his appendix. He died seven days later on October 31, 1926.
