Catherine, Called Birdy
by
Karen Cushman
Genre: Historic fiction, diary

Rating:** 1/2

Summary: Catherine's father is determined to marry her off to a rich man, no matter what else he might be. Catherine has no intention of submitting her father, and will try every trick in the book to scare off her suitors, but even that might not be enough.

Not only does this fictional diary chronicle Catherine's misadventures with her suitors, but also her life, her hopes and fears, her family, and herself. It's a book that you must read again, just to catch all the details. Even with a weak plot, this book would still interest me, because of her daily life. What is mundane to her is esoteric to us.
