But when one of the trustees takes notice of her writing ability, he sends her off to college to become a writer. He asks nothing in return except that he remain anonymous and that she write to him every month. Jerusha starts calling him Daddy Long Legs. Through the letters, we see the shy young Jerush Abbot turn into a young lady of character

I recently read this book again, and remembered how good it is. This is another older book, and the language matches it's age. That is to say, it is not a difficult read, only that the language takes a little getting used to. The chatty, easygoing style of the letters draws you into her life, and her sense of wonder at relatively mundane thing makes you smile -and think.
