The Savage Damsel and the Dwarf
by
Gerald Morris
Genre: Humor, Arthurian fantasy

Rating:****

Summary: Lynet is sick of watching young knights ride to their deaths at the hands of the evil Knight of Red Lands, all for the sake of her callous sister Lyonesse. So Lynet decides to take matters into her own hands and ask King Arthur for a knight to rescue her sister. Unfortunately, she has a horrible sense of direction, but she finds a guide in a strange dwarf named Rodger. When she arrives at the court, she doesn't dare to give her name, since her father fought against Arthur, and the only help she gets is a kitchen boy called Beaumains. Beaumains is a very talented boy, and it looks like Lyonesse will be freed soon, but complications ensue, and Lynet isn't sure she wants Lyonesse rescued after all.

This is my favorite story by Gerald Morris. It has everything: Action, adventure, magic, humor, and a little bit of romance. What really sent me into giggles were the prologue and epilogue. It's 100% pure parody, and embodies the #1 reason why I like these stories. My only complaint is that it's too short.
