Here's me and my 86 Buick Grand National
My 95 Impala SS
That's just me.
The heart of the Beast
I bought my GN new in September of 1986. The body/
chassis
has about 200,000 miles on it. The original motor lasted just under
150,000
miles until the day that it threw 2 rods out of the side of the block
and
blasted the back 1/3 of the camshaft out of the back of the motor and
right
through a hole in the flywheel. At that time I didn't realize how much
damage was being done to the motor by running too much boost for the
inadequate
stock fuel pump. I was still running a Hypertec chip that is a dinosaur
by today's standards. I now have Blue Top fuel injectors and recently
installed
a home brew alcohol/ water injection system. I have switched chips from
a Thrasher 93 to a Red Armstrong race chip since installing the alcohol
system. The brutally cold weather has prevented me from being able to
tune
the new setup but I have run as much as 24lbs of boost with basically
no
knock retard on 93 pump gas. ( I now use a Walbro fuel pump that is hot
wired and I have several high octane race chips. The tranny is a
rebuilt 2004r with a shift kit. I've told my wife that when I die there
will be no reason to buy a casket. Just stick me behind the wheel and
lower
us into the ground.
