IGNITION

Ignition... I don't know what to say exaclty here, ignition is not one of my strong points. I have Accel coils, 8mm Magnecor wires, and the Fastchip computer supposedly retimes the ignition slightly for more performance. I run with ACDelco plugs. I've heard good things from people who dont know what they're talking about about the platinum tipped plugs. No one I really respected has told me that the platinum ones are awesome or antyhing. The platinum will wear off after a couple thousand miles anyways to the best of my knowledge. They offer no edge really. I noticed quite a difference with the Accel coils. They cost about $37 a coil, and my car required three of corse. The wires didn't do that much. I put the wires on before I put the coils on. I would say that if you were willing to spend about $8 a plug, you should just forget that and spend the money for coils and actually get something out of it. I've heard that Accel coils don't have a very long life span though. Maybe a year or two from what I have heard. I have had mine for about a year now and it still runs fine. There are a lot of GM guys that would say don't buy Accel though, and they are mostly guys who's opinion I trust.

Wires and plugs are very important. I once spent a great deal of time and money trying to figure out what was wrong with my car. It was stuttering and ultimately wouldn't stay running after a month. I came to find out that it was the spark plug wires that had only 10 thousand miles on them. A simple fix. Goes to show you that you should never overlook the obvious.
