1. Download wmtools.exe, VirtualDub, and DVMPEG.

2. Install wmtools and DVMPEG. Then unzip VirtualDub.

3. Create a copy of the *.asf movie you wish to convert!! Use this copy for the following process in case anything goes wrong.

4. Open VirtualDub and then open the *.asf copy you just made.

5. Go to menu bar: video: compression:

6. Choose Indeo Video or one of the Microsoft MPEG-4 codecs (Microsoft Movie 1 will make a *.avi movie that's about 1GB/hour).

7. Move "Quality" slider to 80% (you will not notice the difference, and the movie will be a lot smaller).

8. Choose OK and exit the window.

9. Go to menu bar: file: Save AVI...

10. Specify a location to save the *.avi movie, and click OK.

11. You may see a message or two, but you should ignore these and continue with converting.

12. Depending on how fast your computer is, converting will take anywhere from 2 hours to 15 hours.

13. When the conversion is done, you should try the *.avi movie in Micro$oft Media Player. If all is good, then move on to DVMPEG...which converts the *.avi to a *.mpeg.
