Playing AVI Movies on Macs
First of all, if you're thinking about making MOST AVI movies work on Macs...DON'T :-)
AVI's *really* suck on a Mac. But here's some things you might do to make them work, and you stand a much better chance on a G4 to make them viewable
First you should make sure you have all the Indeo Video Codecs from Apple installed. Download Indeo Video 4 and Indeo Video 5.
You MAY or may NOT be able to make this work...it will probly at least get you a picture though.
How to play a (smr).avi movie on a Mac:
1. Install Windows Media Player for Mac.
2. Open DivX Player.
3. Hit Command D (for Divx Doctor in DivX player) to import
the movie. This process is to arrange the audio part of the movie. It will
prompt you to re-save the file into a .mov file. The .mov file you just
created will be the movie that you will be viewing. (do not throw out the
.avi file, it's needed it to play the .mov). Sometime while it's converting
the movie, it will give you an error message, click OK. and go on past it.
4. Now to view the file you have 3 choices:
A) Watch the file as is on your monitor.
B) Select full screen in the menu which will play at about 1/3 the size
of your screen.
C) While choosing Full Screen keep the option button pressed down until
the movie start and it will start to play FULL SCREEN, BUT even on a G3
(depending on the exact format of the AVI...who knows! :-) ) the movie plays
all choppy and slow. So if that problem is corrected on faster Macs, i don't
know.
That's it...GOOD Luck! :-)
