Yamaha CRW2100E and Toast 5 are Incompatible

This tip was pulled from the Macintouch

Super Infopages.
==========
Jean Wang has had to downgrade to a previous version of Roxio's Toast CD-creation
software to solve a problem with a Yamaha drive:
"I upgraded to Toast 5.0 and ran into problems. Toast would
freeze during verification after burning a CD (disc at once). Haven't had
any
problems with the previous version of Toast (4.1.2).
"When I contacted Roxio's support, I was told to update the firmware. I checked Roxio's list of supported drives on their website and found this, which apparently their own tech support wasn't aware of:
"Due to changes in the later versions of the firmware for this drive [Yamaha CRW2100E] it is likely to have compatability issues with our software. Roxio and Yamaha are investigating this."
"In the end, I was told to keep the firmware as is, and use the older version of Toast. So, buying Toast 5.0 was a complete waste of money."
Follow-Up from Roxio (June 27)
==========
Victor Nemachek, Toast's product manager, sent in a follow-up message regarding
Jean Wang's note yesterday about problems with Roxio's Toast 5 and Yamaha's
CRW2100E CD-RW drive:
"There is a known bug in Toast 5 with the Yamaha 2100 when it is directly
attached to the Mac's internal ATAPI bus. We believe we already have a fix
for this bug.
"I have asked our Technical Support Lead to personally call Jean and supply Beta code that should solve this problem.
"We plan on making this bug fix generally available in
the next release of Toast, version 5.0.2, which will be released in the near
future."
