I like to
think of Ogre Battle as the Warcraft
of SNES. It's an awesome strategy game that includes all of the elements
of great real time strategy (commanding units, getting resources, character
progression... ect.). In fact, I think Orge Battle does a better job with
character progression then most modern RTS games. Your squads have names
and all of the units in each squad are capable of gaining levels and changing
classes. Ogre Battle is great.
Graphics: (8/10) Though Ogre Battle is a
high quality game, the graphics leave a little to be desired. Most of
the game is played from a view that looks like the map from The
Legend of Zelda. But the upclose battle scenes look great!
Sound: (7/10) The sound is good. There's
good music playing from the map screen that really sets the mood. During
battle scenes you get ot hear all the action as well as a "death groan"
when a unit is killed. Good stuff.
Fun: (9/10) Oh yeah! Ogre Battle is one
of my old favorites. I used to rent it for a dollar every weekend and
hope my save spots were still on it. I've never been able to beat this
game, but I'm still trying. I just love the combat! It really cool because
you don't directly control the character's actions (like you would in
an rpg). Instead you give broad commands (like
"attack the leader") and use tarrot cards to effect things, and pretty
much watch the battle unfold. It's really fun and the battle graphics
are good.
Creativity: (8/10) There aren't a whole
lot of strategy games for SNES, and I think
this is because it's difficult to design strategy games with the limitations
of the SNES. So I'm giving a high score to Orge Battle's success in designing
a great game for a difficult genre (for the system). This is good stuff.
Multi-Player:
Wouldn't that be nice.
Tips and Cheats: Um, I can't find a good
link. Who cares anyway, half the fun in Ogre Battle is making up your
own strategies. Just play it!
Errors: Smooth Sailing.
