HELP FILES

Playstation

How do I know if I installed the MOD chip correctly?

After installation if your Playstation is able to play original games then you probably installed the chip correctly. If you did not install the chip correctly you probably wouldn't be able to play any games at all.

After installation if you cannot play original games then you most likely attached a wire to the wrong solder pad, bridged a connection, did not attach the wire tight enough to the solder pad or forgot to attach a cable or screw. START OVER and recheck all your work carefully to find any mistakes.

If, after you installed the chip, you are unable to play CD-R disks but you can play ORIGINAL disks you probably installed the mod chip correctly however a different problem exists.

If you have problems booting up your imports and CD-R disks then the problem could be:

A. You are not backing up your disks correctly. We suggest using CD-R WIN or NERO for making
backup disks. Additional information about making backup copies is at PSX Copy World.

B. Your playstation may have a worn or old lens, common with the early SCPH-100X series because
of it's age, which is having problems reading CD-R media as this media is harder to read than
machine pressed disks. This often happens when using Gold, Yellow, Silver and light Green media
(dark Green is ok). We suggest using Blue media by TDK, Verbatim or Memorex. Stay away from
Sony, Kodak, no-name brands and all disks with a Yellow, Gold or Silver bottom. To find out if
your lens is failing, try starting your games with your playstation on it's side or up-side down. If
these games now start working, your lens needs repair or recalibrating.

C. If you are using a GameEnhancer to start your games, try using a different black disk to boot up
the game as some black disks don't make good bootup disks. The Demo disk included with some
playstations should work with every game however if you are still having troubles try another black
    disk as the boot disk.

D. A wire was not attached properly or has broken off from the mod chip or Playstation.

E. If you have a 7-wire Stealth Multi-Mode MOD chip installed and are having trouble booting up
some games, including Anti-Mod and original games, you may need to use the built-in

Dino-Mode Technology

F. If you have a PS2 modchip installed you must use the correct game patchs and boot procedures.

G. If you have a PS2 and are experiencing problems with slow loading, choppy fmv or a ticking sound
coming from your drive when playing backups, then try using a different CD-R media. If the
symptoms continue your laser unit may need calibrating. This is an advanced procedure done at
    your own risk.

How do I make my Game Enhancer/Game Shark work with a Stealth Mod Chip?

1. Open the lid, put the CD in the unit, leave the lid open.
2. Turn on the playstation.
3. Pick whatever cheat codes you want to use.
4. Close the lid and press the button to start the game within 1-2 seconds of closing the lid.

You must do this procedure because the units like the Game Enhancer/Game Shark take over the boot process and since the Stealth Chip must go into Stealth mode in order to beat the new protection you must tell the chip to wake up before you tell the game to boot.

Sega Software Problems

During the early release of the Dreamcast console Sega Corp. had manufactured and shipped some defective software. Sega's defective software titles are very well documented by Sega Corp. and other software authorities. If you have software that does not load, freezes or otherwise does not work then it's most likely defective. Late last year Sega Corp. issued a press release to inform it's customers that up to 20% of their software is defective. Sega stated to return all defective software to the place of purchase. If you have software that does not load or freezes then please exchange it for a new disk at the place of purchase. It is rumored that currently over 5% of ALL Sega software is defective in some way.

30% of the following tiles are defective and you may have a problem loading these games:

Virtual On 2000, NFL 2k, Shen Mue, Blue Stinger, Ready to Rumble , NFL Blitz 2000, Virtual Fighter 3tb

The DreamChip is 100% reliable. Some people are blaming the DreamChip for not booting the games listed above. The chip is not at fault. The DreamChips work. The problem is in some of Sega's software titles. We encountered the above defective titles when testing the DreamChip and found them defective in Dreamcast's from every zone (USA, JAP, EURO). The same EXACT software bugs that appeared in an unmodified JAP system would also appear when played on a modified USA system. Please understand that this problem is not the DreamChip but rather defective software released from Sega! Please exchange your software at the place of purchase for a replacement.

Making Dreamcast backups

It would seem that backups are possible under certain conditions but we have no information regarding these procedures. See our links page for sites providing this information.
WARNING: It is illegal to make backups of games you don't own.
