You Would Too- [Part 11]

So yeah, it’s been a month of so. Being a human liaison between zombie killers and zombies. Every week or so, the VCP comes by and asks if everything is allright. “Sure it is, officer” I tell him, trying to ignore the fact that I smell like rotted corpses. They always sniff the air, and ask me again, am I sure? “Of course officer, if I saw an actual zombie I’d go crazy! Thank you so much officer, for protecting me! Oh how appreciative I am!” Blah blah blah blah.

So here we are. One big happy family. It’s almost like it was before, before the world trade center ceased to exist, before Nathan and Rach__l got sick, before the nightly bonfires, before 7/8 ths of the population died off, and came back (at least that’s the count when I last checked the news). Except for the smell. And they are a lot messier than before. Before it was just dirty dishes left on the coffee table. Or recyclables in the trash can. Now it’s worms. And bugs. And liquefied, rotted flesh. Everywhere. So I shower often. Robert has been quiet, he stays in his room. You would too, if your girlfriend became a hunk of blackened, bug-riddled flesh. I won’t go into details about how we survive. Mostly Robert and I are stuck in our apartment, since most of the population is zombies. Rach__l and Robert have to go out at night and doge the VCP to get food for us by breaking into grocery stores, and to hunt for food themselves. The world has changed a lot in the last six months. All the humans left over sort of have to stay in their own fortresses, or, I imagine, work out deals with zombies like we did. When the VCP comes by, every week or so, I go to the door and shoo them away. Lately though, the VCP hasn’t been showing up as often. There just aren’t enough people to enforce it. And there just aren’t enough people to protect anymore. It’s been two days since the last VCP visit. And before that, two weeks.
