Hanging with the Big Boys!

Got wind that the Beer-sheva Chess Club was sponsoring a 3-day International Masters Tourney…April 3 – 6, 2005. Figured I’d post a signup sheet and take 8 of the guys up to check out the final 3 rounds on the 6th.

Among the 14 participants were GM Viktor Korchnoi and Grand Masters & International Masters from Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Israel.

Wow! All this really made our day! The dudes with me were mostly pensioners, same age bracket as Korchnoi and admired him immensely. It was GREAT!

Bio:
Viktor Lvovich Korchnoi was born March 23rd, 1931 in Leningrad. He won the USSR Championship four times before defecting to Switzerland in 1976. He challenged Anatoli Karpov for the World Championship twice, in 1978 and 1981, but lost both matches.
