Took A Dip In The Dead Sea!

Actually the 'Dead Sea' and the 'Salt Sea' are one of the same. We call it the Dead Sea; the Bible calls it the Salt Sea.

There is a rift that runs from Syria to Africa. In essence, it’s a gap left in the earth, due to repeated earthquakes and shifting of plates. The cities, Sodom and Gomorrah used to lie at the south end of the Salt Sea. A gap occurred right beneath these cities. In other words, the earth opened up and swallowed them. Note! Sodom and Gomorrah is pronouned S'dom and Amora in Hebrew.

As a result, the Salt Sea filled in the gap, thus becoming longer and deeper as I tried to illustrate. In fact, the Salt Sea lies 1300 feet below sea level, which accounts for it always being at lukewarm temperatures. It is the lowest area on earth. Seems like G-d just smashed Sodom and Gomorrah right into the ground! (Gen 19:24 & 25).

The landscape is very strange in this area. Sulfur springs errupt. Pitch (stuff like tar) oozes from the surface in spots. There are mountains made of lava ash and mountains that look like they've been in a big mixing bowl. Because ores and mineral rocks found in the core of the earth, now lay on the surface, seashells on hilltops, etc. Plus, no fish can survive in the waters of the Dead Sea.

Note! Zechariah prophesied that on the Day of the Lord living waters would flow out from Jerusalem to the Salt Sea (Zech 14:8) and Ezekiel said that in that day the Dead Sea would yield fish (Ezek 47:7-12).

Note! The Great Sea referred to in Ezek 47:10 is the Mediterranean.

Extracting minerals from the Salt Sea is big business. There's an industrial plant called 'Dead Sea Works' that specializes in making fertilizers from sulfur minerals. Hotels have popped up along the water edges, famous for their beaches, their seawater filled swimming pools, and their Dead Sea mud bath facilities. Yes, you can actually purchase some of this fountain of youth mud for your face!

Wow! Just think, this sea to date, still has no fish!
